  • "Lovely property and situated perfectly for our visit to Whitby for the Goth weekend."

Plenty of space to relax in the living room, and comfy beds. Milk was left for us in the fridge, and there were t-bags, however no sugar or coffee, luckily there is a Morrisons a few minutes drive away, so we were able to get supplies. Would still recommend it though, and would stay again in the future.

Fantastic property in a town house style all the amenities included , we didnt realise the property was dog friendly which was our mistake when booking as we would not have stayed here due to allergies but never the less the property is a great place to stay and well situated waking distance to Old Town and Abbey and beach, we have recommended this property to our friends due to pet friendly policy and perfect location,

Thankyou for leaving feedback. I was a little perplexed at you leaving me a low mark for the property. In your comments you leave only a glowing report??? Parking a bonus also easy flat walk into town. The bed In single bedroom is only suitable for a child as it had two thin mattress on top of each other, we were a party of three adults, the bed settee is positioned in the hall with a front door onto the street and a cold room. Also why only a bath towel each, even one night stay in hotels provide bath and hand towels, fortunately we had taken our own. Otherwise a good place to stay.

Thanks for your feedback. For information the hand towels were on the top of the bathroom cabinet, I found them unused. The room at the front I found that at previous visitor had turned the radiator down so temperature wasn't a problem. I leave my phone number with every visitor, its a shame you didn't call me, we could have resolved your concerns and given you a nicer stay. I'm always happy to help. Property Owner

  • "Generally speaking the accommodation was comfortable and the location was good, however it was spoilt by one or two lapses of attention to detail that took some of the gloss off."

There were no washing m/c tablets in the house and only 1 dishwasher tablet could be found. We stocked up with these at Sainsbury's. Also no spare refuse sacks were provided. The house accommodates 5 in total (but 3 of us were there that week) but these essentials were not provided as expected. We manged with just the one for household and 1 for recycling. There was no handwash in the kitchen only an empty dispenser. The "old" rusty roasting dishes were still there and should have been removed. The new ones were available. We second guessed how to work the cooker despite one of the knobs falling off! We repaired the fry pan's floppy handle and the window catch in the master bedroom and generally managed any other issues that presented themselves during our stay

Thankyou for reviewing our home and giving it 88 out of 100. We have a welcome book and advise every customer that if you need anything or clarification we are there to help. We only live 2 miles away so its no problem. We can advise the location of the spare bin bags and other items which were available in the house. We leave 2 or3 dish washer tablets to get you going .If this got missed I offer my apologies. We do provide tea bags, fresh milk and flowers. We don't provide washing machine powder. Cooker Knob cover replacement has been actioned. We have a great location for visiting Whitby. Pubs and Fish and Chip shop very close 2/3 minute walk. Only 7 minute walk along the river to Whitby centre. Dedicated parking spare Property Owner

Total lies as to its position and then you try and get out of it by saying I should have looked at the map, which I did, it still does not give an accurate position of that cottage only the development. I understand you have numerous complaints against you and you find dealing with complaints difficult to take.

Thankyou for your feedback. I'm really surprised to read this. We met on several occasions while you were stopping with us and at no time did you express any dissatisfaction with the property. It seems to me that your complaint is with Sykes Cottages over the listing accuracy. Just for information we have had over 200 lets with Sykes and to the best of my knowledge nobody has flagged the accuracy of the listing as a problem. Regards, Andy C Property Owner

  • "A nice property in a very convenient position with the very important parking."

Kitchen was well equipped although I was very disappointed with the condition of the baking trays. I have marked it down a little because it was difficult to flush the toilet and sometimes the toilet door stuck and it was hard to open. A chair cushion was stained too. Families with children need to take care as the hot water is very hot. Great if you want a hot bath but a little dangerous if you want to wash your hands in the bathroom or have a shower. We would have liked more towels as we had only 2 bath and 1 hand towel. The tea towels were stained and one smelled a bit stale. Two was adequate though. Having said all that we would definitely return. Booking was easy and everything went smoothly. Thank you.

Thanks for your feedback. We encourage all guests to call us if they need anything, anything at all. If I can rectify any problems, I will, I live only 10 minutes away. Its a real shame you didn't as I could have sorted some of your comments out. The water temperature is adjustable on the boiler, some guest like it hot and some not. Quick fix. Extra towels , quick fix. Toilet has been checked and is Ok. New baking trays added to existing ones. We hope you come and visit us again, we aim to make your stay enjoyable. It was very clean and felt very secure in the complex of holiday homes. Great parking. Everything you could wish for at hand. Arrived early so we could know where the cottage was for latter. We were spotted by a relative of the owner and he insisted we left the car rather than find a car park, which was great. I only held back on one star, due to the road noise. I am a very lite sleeper and maybe others would not have a problem.

Thankyou for your kind feedback. Just for information the road outside that leads down to the swing bridge was a little busier than normal due to roadworks on the junction A171. These are temporary works which made some people divert down our road. We will be back to normal by end of the week. Property Owner

I contacted the owner Andy in advance of my arrival and he was extremely helpful and accommodating. Went for a couple of days' walking on the Cleveland Way/Cinder Track with a pal and we both had an excellent time in Whitby. After a long walk, I have to say that the shower in the house is absolutely brilliant - really powerful to wash away the aches and pains! Location is great, just a few minutes' walk from the town centre but far enough not to be disturbed by the hustle and bustle. The parking space is a bonus as it looks like Whitby could be awkward when busy. Saw a couple of reviews moaning about the proximity of the boatyard but I honestly had no issue with any noise etc. The rear of the house backs onto the street heading into the town centre, but again it wasn't a problem. Would absolutely stay here again if I should be in the area.

Comfortable, cosy and spotlessly clean and well presented. The little Christmas tree was a nice touch as well. The cottage has a combi boiler, heating was excellent and there was plentiful hot water. The living room was comfortable and the ground floor of the cottage is very spacious. The little extra sitting room was a great place for our dog’s basket and the utility area was handy for all of his towels, leads, food etc. We didn’t use the front bedroom as we found the fitted wardrobes over the bed claustrophobic. Maybe that is just us! The back bedroom was very pleasant. The kitchen was pretty well equipped and there is plenty of worktop space. Overall there was plenty of crockery and cups. We were a wee bit surprised that there wasn’t a teapot (in Yorkshire?!?) and the only coffee making facility was a tiny cafetière. These would make nice additions. A four slice toaster would also have been nice....especially if there were more than two of you. Just a couple of little details, otherwise the facilities were very good indeed. It’s just a short walk into the centre of Whitby and there are pubs and a great fish and chip shop within just a couple of minutes walk. The allocated parking space was a huge bonus. We have a VW Camper Van and often allocated parking is either height restricted or only suitable for a small car so it was great to find a full size unrestricted space for our use. A very nice cottage in a fantastic location.
