Was disappointed with cleanliness,i have asthma, a hover was left under my bed smelling of dog, had to get my husband to clear lots of dust on skirting boards, also a spiders Web in the corner where my head lay, obviously not been dusted for sometime

  • "The cottage is small and quaint and has retained lots of original features."

The pictures of the cottage in times gone by was a great feature. It has been renovated well and has modern amenities and a great kitchen/dining area, it is a small cottage but has everything we needed as a family of four. It is in a very central location, it is of note parking was an additional expense and for the week was 70.00. The owner was responsive to communication and was helpful with instructions, arrival and departure was easy and hassle free. There are a couple of issues that did impact our stay one was the sofa which is in dire need of replacement and the master bed which is also in need of a new mattress, if these two issues were rectified it would be a five star stay. A tip for Whitby is book the restaurants that have good reviews as they will be booked up and won’t accept walk ins.

It was the most uncomfortable suite I have ever sat on. It was like sitting on the floor. This needs replacing as it could spoil the stay. Everything else was perfect.

It’s in a great convenient position. Right on the door stop of good places to eat. Warm, cozy and with its own parking it’s ideal. Its steep old building stairs may not be for everyone! But we shall be returning again. Plus the owners are there on hand by a phone call away if any issues. Love it!

We loved the displayed old photos of the cottage and area from times gone by. The location was lovely with two teenage daughters - they liked the proximity to the shops! It was so extremely handy to have a parking space available as well! A great cottage for a few days break away.

  • "The Cottage is in a very good location and makes it so easy for all shops, restaurants etc."

Due to its central location and it can be noisy, although we were there at Easter bank holiday weekend. This may have influenced it but noise went on till 4am. The main issue I had with the Cottage, is that it is very small. We went as a family of two adults, two kids and a dog. The house was not big enough to accommodate us all. This was particularly evident downstairs, which is just one room. There wasn’t enough seating space for us all to sit on the settee. There is a breakfast bar in this room but the stools provided, are not very comfortable. There isn’t really enough space to cook, particularly if people are sat at the breakfast bar. When cooking I literally had to sit at one of the seats. The whole accommodation is extremely dark. Whilst accepting that it is a Cottage, the windows do not open in three out of four of the rooms. This makes the Cottage quite stuffy and oppressive. This is not helped by the fact you don’t have control of the heating. This comes on at set times whether you need it to or not. The bedroom on the first floor is a decent size and accommodates two children. It also has storage space and a TV with DVD. There is no DVD player downstairs, nor can you stream your phone to the TV. This meant if we wanted to watch a film as a family, we had to go to the kids bedroom. The bathroom has nice facilities with the exception of the hot tap. It is a Triton hot tap that produces very little hot water. The bedroom on the second floor is contained in the roof. It does not have any room to stand up in, other than the foot of the bed. It’s basically a bed in a room. We both found it quite difficult to get in and out of bed. The Cottage does provide safe secure parking, which is needed in Whitby. However, as described in the advert this is 5 mins away up a steep hill. Overall if there was just two of you, you could make it work. It didn’t work for us as a family. Having stayed in multiple Cottages in Whitby, this was the most disappointing. Due to the issues we left a day early.

The lovely lady who has this cottage went above and beyond for us as she left a bottle of prosecco and some glasses to say congratulations as me and my husband had just got married and used this cottage as our honeymoon. I would definitely go back if I need to stay somewhere in Whitby. It was a lovely place to just chill.

We left a day early. Poor hot water supply in kitchen, seemed to only get one bowl full so made washing up difficult. Otherwise this cottage is ace.

Thank you for your comments. We are sorry to hear you left a day early, if customers have any issues during their stay we ask for contact to be made so we can resolve the issue as soon as possible. We can confirm the mattress has now been replaced in the main bedroom and hope this is found to be more comfortable. We glad you enjoyed the rest of the cottage and hope to welcome you back in the future. Thanks Again Sykes Cottages Property Owner

We were here in March and it was well heated and very warm and cosy. Everything at hand from tin foil to tea so no need to worry about forgetting anything. Right in the heart of Whitby with a lovely bakery next door and many pubs, shops, eateries and banks on the doorstep. A selection of beaches within a few minutes walk with amazing views and sea life, we saw a seal pup on one occasion and everywhere is dog friendly. The owner was easily contactable and the free wifi is a massive plus in the cottage. Our only worry, which didn't lead to an issue were the stairs from the top floor. They are quite steep and narrow, so we kept the lower floor lighting on overnight so avoided any stumbling to the bathroom in the night and everything worked out great. We would definitely return without question
