  • "Our second visit to Captain's Cottage which is a great place to stay, very clean and comfortable."

The only negative would be that a new fridge is required as the ice box door was broken (as mentioned in other reviews). It is in a great position to explore Whitby and the surrounding areas. We look forward to staying at the cottage again.

Thanks for great feedback, much appreciated. Property Owner

  • "DON'T BOOK THIS PROPERTY."

This property is not as listed. Dusty, dirty and poorly maintained. Being greeted by a beer bottle full of cigarette ends, as I entered the Courtyard to collect the key was not a great first impression. Cobwebs. Broken sink tap. Dribbling shower. Fridge was filthy. No functional freezer box, these were just a handful of the issues. Way below expectations of cleanliness and not as the photos show. Over £1000 for a week in a property like this is robbery! Tried calling the owners twice on arrival day, but went straight to voicemail. They are now refusing any compensation.

Needs some TLC Garden was poor, untidy, not like the description given mattress had pee stains so did duvet sofa was dirty Bin was filthy good location & parked car for free for the 5 days otherwise we were not very satisfied

Do you also think it’s acceptable to leave the house in the state that you did ? Completely shut down our internet and leave us with a need to get decorators in to fix all the walls that you’ve stained etc Property Owner

  • "Issue with television which was passed onto their team which was not resolved."

They offered a £50 reduction which they re aged on, left the place cleaner than we entered, Fire blanket missing, shame don’t keep to there words and actions especially as it was their offer and they didn’t follow through and made excuses after the fact.

Thanks for your feedback, the cottage TV has a firestick with a full range of live and on demand programmes. We've double checked, and the fire blanket is located on the back of the kitchen door. If concerns with cleanliness or maintenance are raised on arrival, our housekeeping team are more than happy address these. Property Owner

  • "Very disappointing."

The faulty boiler meant no hot water. The cottage was very dirty. There were broken appliances and furniture in the kitchen. A general appearance of poor maintenance and lack of care.

Thanks for taking the time to provide feedback. Thankfully we have resolved the hot water issues and replaced the two chairs in the kitchen. We were pleased that our housekeeping team were able to come round shortly after your arrival and address your concerns cleanliness. Property Owner

  • "Fantastic cottage within walking distance of Whitby town centre, Abbey and beach."

Parking a little tricky, free parking on the street opposite but struggled to find two spaces over the New Year weekend. Beautifully decorated and well equipped kitchen (could do with more than 5 mugs though) - comfortable bedrooms. Loved the extra touches - Christmas decorations & a bottle of bubbly & chocolates on arrival. Thank you for a lovely stay!

Thanks so much! Glad you had a lovely stay. Property Owner

Need more hooks in bathroom and shelf , only toilet roll left for one person so had to rush out and get toilet rolls . No dish cloth , no tea bags for at least a cuppa when you arrive . Beds mattresses dirty and old even spring escaping on one no mattress protectors , few bits broken on drawers all grubby , outside needs attention and not nice approach needs weeding out the front . No spare bin bags , need bins in bedrooms . Fridge freezer door broke bin will not close in kitchen . Over all needs a proper clean not attention to detail with cleaning …. I own 6 holiday let’s so have high standard we always score 10/10 for cleanliness , it’s a shame as could be great , all mattresses need replacing ….. not great dirty

  • "Arrived at this property and it became obvious the 'parking' was not at the property but wherever you could find on the road into the town centre."

We then went through an alleyway with broken glass and dog mess into the 'courtyard' gate is rotten and doesn't lock, covered in weeds and cigarette butt's. On entering the property it became obvious this property hadn't been properly cleaned for some time. You couldn't see through the kitchen window. The filth in the kitchen cupboards and chairs and floors was disgusting. The boiler wasn't working and we were told to turn it off with the noise coming from it.We phoned the owner hoping she would be appalled and we were told the cleaners hadn't been yet and hopefully someone would be out to look at the boiler the next day!I sent several photos to the owner,no reply!the cleaners turned up and said they were told to come back and do more cleaning. This was not a weeks level of dirt,I doubt it had had a proper clean for months. There was new towels and bedding with hairs all over them.No light fittings working at the top of the landing.Stains all over the sofa and chair. We left as we could not have stayed there, fithy and not as described and no hot water or heating.I would advise anyone to reconsider if thinking of staying here, still waiting for our refund

I am sorry to hear that the stay did not match your expectations and would like to take this opportunity to address any concerns. The property does not come with any parking provided, it simply states parking is available on a first come first serve basis. Access to the property will be via communal grounds which we attempt to try and maintain ourselves but this does not belong to our property. Unfortunately as you arrived ahead of the check in time the property had not yet been completed for a changeover. Our cleaners manage multiple properties and will carry out the changeover of the linen etc in the morning and then have scheduled the rest of the team to finish the job in the early afternoon ready for guests to check in on time. The property is thoroughly deep cleaned on a regular basis also. Admittedly the boiler did have a minor fault, I can only apologise as this was not something under my radar until you advised me at the time. I had arranged a plumber to attend the next day to address this but the offer was later dismissed. Reassuringly, the services such as the electric shower and additional heating were not impacted by this. Thank you for taking your time providing your feedback, it is very important us as we like to ensure all of our guests have a wonderful staying at Captains Cottage. Best wishes, The owners of Captains Cottage, Property Owner
