All mod cons, very clean and comfortable. Ideal location, no need to use the car. Garage is undercover and secure, no need to unpack in the rain, straight through to the appts. Novelty of the trains passing kept us amused. Would seriously recommend a stay.

Clean and well equipped. Hot water is so hot and could easily scold someone who was not aware.( Yes I understand the taps are mixers ) beds are on the hard side but manageable. The second bed room is compact ( you just need to be organised). A 9.30 am exit time is very early. Great to have a secure parking space.

  • "Beautiful apartment in a fantastic location."

Clean and well equipped for a great week away. We loved watching the trains rolling in and out of the station, especially the steam ones. The welcome pack was lovely to have after a never ending journey up. A massive thank you to the house keeper for her help in allowing us to stay a few hours longer than we should have due to my Dads health issue, outstanding service. We look forward to returning again some time in the near future.

  • "On arrival at the property things looked great and felt very spacious, however each room (particularly the kitchen/lounge area) was tiny and although well equipped, the sofa was hard and uncomfortable."

There was hardly enough space in each bedroom (you can’t walk around the beds very easily and in the second bedroom, it’s impossible) and one tiny wardrobe was not enough storage for a weeks stay. Both beds were the most uncomfortable beds we have ever slept on and even our 11 year old daughter (who could usually sleep anywhere) complained of back ache. Seriously, the beds felt like slabs of stone. The noise outside the apartment was also terrible due to seagulls and noisy neighbours but understandable that is outside of the owners control. The apartment was super clean and well equipped but unfortunately we didn’t receive the welcome pack as described and due to how uncomfortable the beds were, we left after 2 nights (we planned to stay for 5 nights). Lots to improve on….

  • "The location of the property is fantastic, and the promise of off road parking was a big incentive."

The apartments are finished to a very high specification and Helen provided lots of pre visit information and recommendations. The Evening Star is much smaller than other apartments that are priced the same so we expected them to be the same, however in reality the living space is very small and dark, we are tall and barely fitted in the double beds, especially in room two when there is no room at the end of the bed for long legs. The apartment is on the ground level as you walk into the building but in reality it is in the roof of the Shed, thus the windows are all below shoulder level, so you have to bend well down to look out and there is thick frames and heavy black Iron grating, giving the impression of a prison cell, so although we could technically see the abbey and the river, it was only if we knelt on the floor. Also the 2nd bedroom is so small that you can’t walk round the bed, so the person sleeping next to the window (approx 6 feet from the 6.30am train on the track right next to it) has to climb over their partner for any night time bathroom visit. There needs to be some sort of procedure, perhaps a locking pole at the end of each parking spot, with a key for each flat as it was clear that some people used more than their one space allocation, we were not the only couple who had to park on the road, despite paying for this premium Property on a promise of off road parking. We would definitely stay at the Engine shed again, but definitely not in the Evening star if it stays the same price as the bigger apartments.

  • "We loved our stay at the Engine Sheds."

It was a gorgeous apartment in a brilliant location. Very central to Whitby (Less than 5 mins walk to the centre) but not bang in the middle of everything so it wasn’t noisy. The underground parking space was brilliant and the whole place felt very secure. The apartment itself was brilliant, lovely facilities, clean and new. You really do have everything you need, even a washing machine. If I was being really picky then it is useful to know that when it is warm although you can open the windows, we chose not to because the seagulls are so loud and also some trains do come past relatively early. Also there is no outside space at the apartment so it’s not like you can sit out on an evening, although you are so close to everything that you can go for a walk, etc. We would definitely stay there again.

  • "Whilst we can see the owners have put much effort and cost in to this developement, we cannot consider it 5 star or value for money at £779 for 3 nights."

It is listed for four people. Fortunately it was only two of us - it would have been cramped for 4. The second bedroom was so small you could not walk around the bed and the main bedroom had an "en-suite" with a sink that was only suitable for handwashing. The only option for eating was stools at a breakfast bar and the small seating area had a sofa so uprigt and uncomfortable we could not use it. Looking at the plan in the welcome pack it seems 2 bedrooms had been squeezed in to an area where others are one bedroom. Evening Star would have made a very spacious 1 bedroom apartment. On a positive note, the fixtures and fittings were of a high standard.

  • "Great location and the parking a real bonus."

The apartment was smaller than I was expecting which was not a problem as there were only 3 of us but 4 adults would have been difficult. My only criticism is the total lack of any instruction on the appliances and equipment available. In the general instruction book it said they were on the TV stand but the TV was on the wall and we never found any. Good quality accomodation though.

Lovely welcome pack, much appreciated. Very quiet, except when the few trains pass. We had an 8 year old boy with us, who loved seeing the trains go past his bedroom window, but nothing provided for children. Suggestion - a few books/games would be good. Whitby, as always, was great. We avoided bank holiday weekend and although busy, everywhere was accessible with no long queues.
