  • "Had a lovely weekend at Griers Cabin."

It's in a great location with great access to the abbey and town centre. Nice touch from the owners with the welcome basket. I can see where the other reviewers are coming from with regards to the cleanliness. The cabin would benefit from a deep clean and a bit of modernisation. Saying this we would gladly go again.

Thankyou for your feedback, the property is a Grafe 11 listed fisherman's cottage, we deliberately keep it original to its heritage. I can only apologise for the cleanliness, we can assure you we take great pride in our lovely quiant cottage & it is top priority. Property Owner

  • "After telephoning the owner to find out how the dated tv set worked, he said he had tried to contact us to advise there was no hot water apart from the shower."

This meant boiling a kettle to wash hands after using the loo and to wash up. He never arranged any repair during our brief stay. The lavatory leaks and the cistern is faulty with haphazard results when flushing . Sometime the water stops . At other times there is a continual flow of water and the cistern noisily keeps trying to refill. The shower door handle was filthy and there was mould on the clothes airer in the shower room as well on the woodwork. The kitchen is not easy to prepare a meal in as the limited space is cluttered with ornaments and two microwaves. The bed is really only suitable for one person as if the loo is required during the night, one person has to climb over the other. The front door has a letter box without any back flap and so a draught comes through unless it is physically blocked.

Thankyou for your feedback, when you contacted us about the toilet we immediately tried to get a plumber, as you said you had a brief stay & the problem was rectified as quickly as we could do it. As for the mould we have it deep cleaned every year, unfortunately as the property is an old fisherman's cottage there maybe a few little issues now & again which I can only apologise for. If you look at the photos you can clearly see how the bedroom is arranged, there is nothing we can do about this, it's been like that for over a hundred years, it is a Grade 11 listed fisherman's cottage, as for the two microwaves, one is a table top oven. Thanyou for the feedback on the letterbox which has now been rectified. Property Owner

  • "The dirty carpet and sofa need replacing, a hard floor would be easier to keep clean."

Toilet cistern mechanism broken, we had to lift lid on cistern to operate flush. Nowhere in bathroom for toothbrushes etc except the floor!! A shelf would have been useful. Outside bin store was not nice to go into, rusty paint tins on floor. Cleaners need to pay attention to vacuuming as we found toenail clippings and a ring by bedside cabinet, not nice to tread on!! Patio was hardly big enough for the table and 2 chairs, one of which kept falling off in front of the door, not really somewhere we would choose to sit. Kitchen was well equipped and clean except for ship ornaments in window which had black mould on.

Thankyou for your feedback, the cottage is a Grade 2 listed fisherman's cottage in a desirable area. we take great pride in the property and interior. The cottage is cosy, a hard floor would not be appropriate, we maintain the interior every year. Nobody has mentioned a shelf in the bathroom, there is a windowsill which is adequate for toiletries. As for the bin store, it is to store rubbish, it has a bin in it, I don't know what you expected. We will pass on to our cleaners about the hoovering, they have never mentioned the toilet, this is something we will look at. The patio is sufficient for two people, again we have never had any complaints. As I mentioned before we take great pride in our lovely little cottage, some people appreciate the history and the area, unfortunately we can't please everyone. Property Owner

Thank you for the wine milk and tea bags ,much appreciated. Had some lovely walks with our dog Millie (Border Terrier). The price was very reasonable too. The only thing to consider if booking Griers Cabin is the steps leading upto it , there's quite afew ( 15 approximately) which is no good for folk with disabilities or the elderly, apart from that I would recommend Griers Cabin.

The lack of hot water was a problem instructions not very clear, up to date leaflets would be good tide times for 2020 not good. The decking out side needs fixing. But all in all we enjoyed the experience and will be back the property for its price just need a few little tweaks to be come an excellent property

It is small but has everything you need for a lovely stay and is also dog friendly. There are a few steps to climb to get to the accommodation so you will need to be reasonably fit. We managed to find free parking close to either the top or bottom of the steps. The walk up the steps and onto Whitby Abbey gives wonderful panoramic views of Whitby and beyond.

  • "A lesson in how to furnish a property as cheaply as possible, with no regard to the comfort of your guests."

Quite obviously everything comes from a house clearance shop. Cuttlery would bend under any pressure it is that cheap & the mattress is obviously the cheapest available. A pity as the location is great for exploring whitby, A few weeks rental profit could transform this to shabby chic instead of shabby cheap.

Thankyou for your feedback. We have a Guest Book and nearly all the comments are positive & mention what a quiant, comfortable, charming little cottage it is, in a pretty location, everything anyone would want. The mattress is memory foam & it has never been mentioned, however this is something we will look at. As for the cutlery we change it on a regular basis for hygiene reasons so that's no problem. I can reassure you we always consider the comfort of our guests and its our main priority. I would just like to add, the property is a Grade 11 listed fisherman's cottage and we take great pride in presenting it in the manner it deserves. Unfortunately, we cannot please everyone. • "The property is as advertised."

We have been before and it is adequate for our needs. However it is very dark inside and the facilities are somewhat limited. This brings me onto the reason for my ratings. THE PROPERTY IS GROSSLY OVERPRICED. WE HAD 4 NIGHTS LAST YEAR FOR A REASONABLE PRICE. WE HAVE BEEN CHARGED OVER £200 MORE FOR 3 NIGHTS THIS YEAR. WE WILL NOT BE COMING BACK. The owners need to realise that using Sykes Cottages is going to result in very unsatisfied customers. There are lots more agents that charge very reasonable rates.

Thankyou for your feedback, not any of our Guests have mentioned the property is dark. The fisherman's cottage is Grade 11 listed, in a very desirable area, this is reflected in the price, maybe you would be more suited in a new build. Property Owner

The bedroom window handle missing could not be opened. The shaggy quilt cover is not suitable for a rental property as cannot be cleaned properly (hairs etc) we went out straight away and purchased a new bed set. This had already been mentioned, in the guest review book in the cottage. Chocolates & wine a nice touch. Just needs a little more attention to detail. Car parking is a problem in Whitby but we were lucky enough to find an on street parking place, close by. We will recommend as we had a great time In Whitby and loved the quirkyness of the place.

Thank you for leaving feedback and we glad you enjoyed your stay. We decided on the "shaggy" style bed linen for warmth and comfort but have taken your comments onboard. You're welcome back anytime!- Jason Property Owner
