  • "Feedback was already given via a complaint, on arrival it was noticed there was damp areas around the front door and this also resulted in a large area of the living room wall being wet to touch and a real damp smell throughout."

Your booking conditions state that it is the owners responsibility to ensure the property is maintained and this is clearly not the case with this property. The bath could not be used either as the plug mechanism would not open meaning it could not be used. We did contact Sykes to see if we could switch to another property but this was not approved (or we could do it but would have to pay for both properties). Disappointed in the response from Sykes, protecting the owner before the customer. The result was we left the property a day earlier than planned and won't be using Sykes again. This property is potentially a risk to health with the level of dampness and should not be available until it is fixed. You have pictures /videos of the issues listed.

Children safe and secure. Everyone enjoyed the stay. A couple of problems were quickly put right, owner kept us informed throughout. Although quite pricey, would return.

  • "We enjoyed our stay here."

Furnishings lovely. Although there are some jobs that need sorting. Washing machine not not working properly. Toilet seat on top floor seriously needs sorting as very wobbly. There are no locks on bathroom doors. The parking isn't great. Not told it might be difficult to park two large cars until the week before we went. There was no parking available on the roadside all week & it was really difficult trying to manoeuvre two large cars on the driveway with the cars parked opposite. Meant we couldn't move the cars to visit other places. The garden needs a serious tidy up. Very scruffy. The back yard could be made lovely but looks a mess.

  • "House was adequate for a family of 8, although more single beds would have been appreciated as there were only a set of bunk beds."

Front and back gardens were very overrun with weeds and were in need of a good tidy. No locks on any bathrooms. Although just a 5 minute walk from the town centre there was a very steep hill which was unavoidable. This made it very difficult for the elderly and less mobile. House itself is in desperate need for a refresh, front and back doors very hard to open and close, but the inside was clean and had everything we needed. Washing machine is out in the back yard but the area was filthy with weeds, rubbish and damp so it was not used. Beds were comfy and plenty of hot water available. Having two parking spaces was very helpful. Unfortunately we would not stay here again.

  • "We were very happy with our stay."

The house was comfortable and well located. As we had entered through the front door, we did not realise that the outer back gate key was in a second key box in the lane and only found it after walking round to the bins on the last day, so this could be made clear in the instructions.

  • "The property is very large and spacious, it could be an amazing property however does need some improvement."

Washing machine doesn’t work and no help when we emailed the home owner, the lounge furniture needs some updating and is very uncomfortable. The garden should have a gate to be able to shut in dogs. The kitchen is very well equipped. Good location and into the heart of Whitby within a few minutes walk. We had a nice stay however wouldn’t stay here again

Sorry to hear this feedback, we will take points on board. We did remove the rug however as it was trapping dog hair and we felt the wood floor is more hygenic. Property Owner

  • "It was a lovely house with with good sized rooms."

Well furnished, good central heating. Could have done with a Kitchen Utensil set and bathroom needed skirting board behind loo cleaning. On our arrival we found the only pan set was very rusty inside the pans. I texted one of the numbers on our paperwork and the gentleman arranged for a quick delivery of very nice stainless steel pans delivery a couple of days later. He also provided quick answers to any questions. One thing I did not like.. when we stripped the beds we found that the back bedroom Mattress Protector was badly stained. Otherwise a brilliant week and in a really nice house. Walking distance to the centre and the hill soon became easier to climb. Took a trip to Scarborough and one to Bridlington. Plenty of shops and supermarkets a short drive from the house.

  • "We had a lovely five day stay here recently."

A beautiful house which accommodated four adults, one child and two dogs very easily. The beds were so very comfortable; the dining room was big enough for us all and the kitchen was well equipped. Only a short downhill walk into Whitby which was lovely at night time. Access may be tricky for those with mobility issues as a lot of stairs but that’s clear on the description. Parking was a huge bonus but it’s a busy little street so I’d advise reversing into the spaces. A few things could have improved our stay - * toilet seats were all wobbly and not secure * missing parts on a bedroom door mechanism * a gate at the top or bottom of the garden steps would make it secure for dogs and children * the ‘welcome information’ book was missing Thank you for sharing your house with us xx

  • "We had a lovely stay at the harbour hideaway!"

Fully equipped kitchen and some extras like board games and a fab list of local pubs left for us. Some of the toilet seats are wobbly and slide around, but other than that the house was great! Would definitely come again. Thank you

  • "Thank you for our stay would like to point out a few things the toilet seats all need attention they are not good at all ."

One bedroom door does not shut correctly as the mechanism has been completely removed. A lock on the bathroom door would be good especially when you go with friends. The property could benefit from a deep clean windows in lounge especially inside their was some socks in front garden to left of window the rear yard is not in a good state sorry I sound slightly negative over certain things but I feel the owner should be aware of this thank you Denise

If I had a few niggles with the property I would just suggest a Welcome Pack, explaining where items are kept (vacuum, ironing board, fire safety equipment etc…) when the bin collection date is… (had to google that one). And how appliances Also maybe a few more pots and pans, we liked to cook breakfasts most mornings and for 5 people didn’t feel like there was enough cooking equipment (plenty of crockery and cutlery items though) Overall a lovely stay and would love to return at a later date.

It had everything we needed and having parking for two cars was a bonus. It was also in a great location being a few minutes walk from the railway station and town. We really enjoyed our week in Whitby and were extremely lucky with the weather. The beds were very comfortable and we all managed to sleep well.
