Climb two sets of stairs so not for anyone with mobility issues. Parking an issue as very busy so if you plan to use your car a lot that might be an issue. Parking permits provided. We stayed 3 nights and didn't need to move our car as we stayed local. Close to shops, seafront and Whitby Abbey.

  • "This is our second stay at High Ridge."

We find the apartment very warm, cosy and comfortable. It has great views and the central location is excellent to explore Whitby. For those points above it is a great place to stay and have given it 4 stars. Unfortunately, this time there were a few areas where we felt the facilities and maintenance were a bit lacking. Maybe because it is getting to the end of the season and a revamp is due? The accommodation could do with a bit of TLC. In the bathroom the lighting is very poor, the shower head and tile grout had black mould. It was difficult to prevent the shower leaking as the shower screen/rubber is beyond its best. The bedding seemed tired and the duvet cover, although was clean and fresh, did have some evidence of old stains and a few dark marks on it. We also had to wash the crockery/cutlery that we were going to use as they had not been cleaned properly and some of the surfaces in the kitchen were 'sticky'. The instructions to put the rubbish around the back of the property could do with clarification as there are no bins and was told there was a bit of a dispute about this so we probably upset one of the neighbours as we put all our rubbish in their bin. Also, one final inconvenience, we had to move he car around as not enough parking permit cards were left for our stay and you cannot get them from the Tourist Information Offices anymore. We would have filled out the Visitor's Book in the apartment, but it looks like someone has decided to rip out all the spare pages?

  • "The view from this property is amazing; however I don't think the description is fully accurate as to the 'steepness' of the stairs i."

    E. whilst you have highlighted that anyone with mobility issues will struggle, I don't think it is clear as to how steep/number of stairs in order to access. The cleanliness is without fault, however I would recommend including information on the main kitchen bin as the day collection of the outside bins takes place. It is also worth noting (though this isn't your fault) that the bins are used by the public walking past and as such the recycling bin could not be used as it was already full and tagged as containing incorrect items. The kitchen equipment provided was excellent and almost every need catered for (as previous guests have noted, there was a fight each morning for the chair to watch sunrise from the kitchen window!)

  • "For a change we decided to book an apartment for our holiday rather than the usual hotel and we were not disappointed."

The apartment is central to Whitby and only a short walk from all the amenities, shops, restaurants and pubs which was ideal. High Ridge itself is very quaint although not for the infirm as there are a number of flights of stairs to master but the views from the living area at the top are wonderful. The place was very clean and we had everything we wanted for our stay. Communication with the owner Michelle was great and everything was explained. Parking is of a premium around the property and we did find ourselves having to park about 10 minutes away as everywhere around the property was taken but that didn't spoil anything. This is the perfect place for a stay with everything close at hand i would recommend you stay here

The view of the Abbey and town is stunning and we enjoyed the Whitby experience, walks to Robin Hood Bay and Laithes, fresh Scampi, boat trips, etc. The only observation, and this is nothing to do with the accommodation, is the heavy penalties on dog owners. £ 500 fine if found in Pannett Park and £1000 fine if your on the main beach. We did find alternatives but clearly Scarborough County Council have issues with dogs. So just to give a heads up, it's a longer walk to release your doggie.

There was some damp in the kitchen but we had been pre- warned by the owner so apart from a slight smell it wasn't a problem. Everything we needed was provided and it was nice and warm. The views are great from the kitchen and top floor window. Its a good size , perfect for 2 and at a push could sleep 4. LOVED that we could take our dog and the fact it didn't "smell" of dog at all in any room. Great size kitchen and bathroom. The only MINOR things that were a problem were 1. access to the boiler to control the heating, it was behind a board that is screwed in to place so we were boiling! (very long arms needed to reach dial) 2. The bedroom window isn't very good at keeping noise out but its on a back street so luckily not much noise happens. 3. The main front door used by both flats has an old fashioned style latch that can accidently lock you out (happened to me last time I stayed in the flat below)! Could do with a newer style lock. 4. When we arrived in Whitby finding the correct parking zone (W) with a space then carrying our luggage to the apartment was a nightmare especially in a blizzard! I would highly recommend this apartment , its pricing is fare , its clean, its convenient to nip back and forth to, its cosy , right on top of the amenities and the owner is a phone call away and happy to help with any problems or questions. 10/10 :)
