"The 0900 check out is far too early and somewhat spoilt the short break we had."

Delaying this til 1000 would be a more suitable time to checkout on what is meant to be a holiday.

"This is a lovely holiday cottage, situated close to the centre of Whitby (5 minutes walk from the railway station)."

The cottage is of a high standard and it provided everything we needed for a week by the coast. From the door there are numerous options for anyone looking to enjoy coastal and country walks or for pottering about Whitby. The nearby rail and bus stations provide easy access to many attractive villages in the North Yorkshire Moors that can be sometimes missed on the main roads. Whitby has much to offer as a popular seaside destination with plenty of beach, walks, history, cafes, restaurants and pubs. We will certainly be back.

"A lovely well appointed cottage close to the centre of Whitby."

A parking space is essential for us so this accommodation is ideal. The cottage is warm and cosy and very well kitted out. The welcome basket was lovely. We have booked again for 2025.

"Excellent cottage in a prime location."

There was a lovely view of Whitby Abbey from the windows. The cottage was well equipped and comfortable for a weeks stay in this lovely town. Just a five minute walk and you were in the centre of Whitby. The car parking space outside the cottage was a huge bonus! There was a welcome pack of wine, milk, biscuits, crisps plus tea, coffee and sugar. Nice big smart t.v. and very good wi-fi. We would certainly stay here again!

"We will definitely staying be staying in Rails End cottage again."

The cottage was clean comfortable and very convenient as it is within a 5 minute walk into Whitby centre with the added bonus of a parking space. The extra touches such as the welcome pack and Christmas decorations made our stay feel more special. I would also add that the cottage also has a lovely view over Whitby.

"Absolutely perfect for a little trip away with my son."

Nicely decorated, immaculately clean and has everything you could possibly need including high thread count sheets!!! These little things make a huge difference. Really good quality furnishings and crockery etc. The best location AND has parking!! We will definitely return.

"Super cottage."

"Had a very enjoyable stay at Rails End which was very clean and comfortable."

It was great to get the welcome pack and the flowers which we thanked Meg for when we met her. Very good location and close to shops and plenty of walks. Would have booked again for next year but was booked on the dates we wished.

"A lovely cottage in a very convenient location in Whitby, with the benefit of car parking, It was so easy to spend several hours in Whitby, then to go back to the cottage for a few hours to 'refresh', before going out again in the evening."

The cottage was very clean, and had everything one needed for a week away. I wish we had stayed for two weeks....maybe next year??

"The holiday cottage was superb!"

The decor and furnishings was to a very high standard. It was spotless and very well cared for. We were really comfortable during our stay. The cottage backs on to the railway, carpark and the river, with a lovely seating area to watch the trains and boats. You can also see the Abbey! It’s a short walk to the town and we were able to do everything on foot. The owner Meg was very welcoming, phoning us before our stay. We were left a welcome note and lots of goodies on our arrival. We would definitely stay here again, the next time we visit Whitby!

"My daughter and I loved our week at Rails End ~ the cottage is a real gem of a find in central Whitby, being only a literal 5 minute walk from the town centre and with easy parking."

I am not a rail enthusiast but really enjoyed that the cottage overlooks the NYMR rail line and the steam train passes a handful of times a day ~ and on our one damp day it was a lovely way to travel for visits to Pickering (do visit the church for the remarkable medieval wall paintings), Goathland and Grosmont. We usually explore by car while holidaying but being in the heart of Whitby we spent a very happy week walking the area and enjoying the views and coast. The walk up to the abbey was a regular favourite. The cottage itself was spotless; and perfect for it's facilities and location ~ we could not have asked for better. We will happily visit again.

The property

Nestled just ahead of the banks of the River Esk, overlooking the Whitby to Middlesbrough railway, is Rails End.

Entry to this reverse-level accommodation is gained at street level, where you can park your car securely before heading inside to uncover the wonder of your accommodation.

The inviting hallway boasts a cloakroom and an open-plan living room enjoying the views of the harbour, abbey and steam trains passing by.

The sitting area offers a cosy feel where you can gather with your loved ones to make a plan of action for your fun-filled days ahead.

There is also a lovely dining area in this room, at which you can eat your meals prepared in the immaculate kitchen, or choose to bring along a board game for an evening of family-friendly competition.

The bathroom rests on the lower ground level, following the two bedrooms, providing a marvellous layout for a variety of group needs.

Step out onto the patio from the king size bedroom, where the sun can be enjoyed at the seating area and on the modest lawn, perfect for the summer months.
