  • "Excellent location especially if you like trains."

Property very well equipped and very clean. Superb extra thoughtful touches added, flowers, bread, milk and treats. Secure on site parking (when other residents bothered to close the garage door) which was hardly ever. I had to go out each day to close it with the remote device. Unfortunately the kind size bed was dreadfully uncomfortable. After two nights lacking in sleep we had to flip the mattress (window side) as the edge springs in places were completely collapsed. A trip to Argos helped with the purchase of a mattress topper. The pillows, although there were many were awfully flat and hard. Quality not quantity should be the rule here. Time to invest in new bed, bedding and pillows as a good nights sleep is the number one requirement of any holiday.

The apartment is beautiful, comfortable and well equipped. The location of the Engine Sheds is excellent - a short walk to shops, restaurants and beautiful Whitby. Also it is a 5 minute walk to the bus station and of course the railway station. The underground, secure parking is so convenient.

They drop a quarter due to all 6 pillows being as hard as rock to the point were we bought 4 pillows after the first nights sleep. We realise this is subjective but an assortment of hard/soft pillows would cover every need. That said we would book again in a heart beat and recommend the Engine sheds to all. A super holiday in a perfect location.

Garage very reassuring as parking in Whitby is not easy. My only problem was the lack of outside space, although it was my fault as there was no indication that there was a garden. Would use again when the sun less likely to shine!

  • ""The Repton" Engine Shed was absolutely lovely and very well presented in a perfect location, only a 5 minutes slow walk to the harbour in Whitby The welcome pack and flowers on arrival were a nice touch to receive."

The unit was really beautiful and had everything that we could possibly require for our holiday. We ate out so did not cook,we only had tea & toast in the mornings,we did notice however, that previous guests had used the oven and left the inside glass door splatered, which required cleaning. The large white fluffy towels in the bathroom were luxurious and white Upon departure I stripped our bed ie,pillow cases, bottom sheet and duvet cover and as I removed the bottom sheet I saw 2 large brown stains on the mattress protector ! ( window side ) which were not from our use. Whilst the mattress protectors are used to protect the mattress I felt that a clean one not a stained one should have been used before guests arrival. Apart from these two minor issues, it did not spoil our stay and everything else was just perfect. Car parking in the garage was really good with access to the apartments through the personal door with your code. We would certainly stay without hesitation again.Perfect apartment,in a perfect location Beware ! having stayed at The Repton Engine Shed which was absolutely First Class you will not want to stay anywhere else

We left our car in secure garage which was great. Repton was lovely and modern but sympathetically restored; the welcome pack was an added bonus, we had everything we needed, even a stick of Whitby rock. There was easy access to the marina and all amenities. The Repton felt like a little luxurious retreat and although amongst other apartments, it was quiet and private. The shower was lovely too! We would highly recommend for that special occasion.

High quality sofa and fixtures. Towels were soft and fluffy. Car park was excellent and we had enough room. It was also very secure. The only two tiny things that could be improved but it didn’t affect our stay were. The bedroom would benefit from some extra black out linings and the mattress is nearing time to be replaced.

Stayed in this to celebrate my husbands 60th birthday at the beginning of May 2024. The welcome pack was a great surprise and the instructions to everything were very helpful. The bed was so comfortable and the shower was lovely and hot. Everything you need is there. If you get a chance, go stay there it is perfect. Spotless as usual and a lovely vase of flowers to greet us but sadly the usual welcome pack must have now been discontinued. Very spacious and plenty of utensils in the kitchen for anyone wanting to cook meals. Washer / dryer and dishwasher in the kitchen and a lovely shower in the bathroom. Loved watching the steam trains go by and having the chats and waves from the drivers through the open patio doors. Fairly quiet in the secure car park and only 4 spaces being used. Annoyingly one inconsiderate holiday maker never closed the garage doors when they went out so leaving the other cars unsecure. Despite the little niggle we had a very enjoyable week and hopefully will be returning again very soon. Thank you

Well located in Whitby with great safe parking. The apartment is a joy to stay in and extremely clean. The bed is enormous as is the beautiful bedroom. Bathroom is not massive but has a full size hand basin and good mirror etc. The roomy shower is very good lots of hot water that stays as hot as you set it. If you intend to cook the kitchen has everything you need. The sitting area is comfortable and a smart TV that works well. The windows from both rooms overlook the harbour, old town and Whitby Abbey. The small local trains come in and out of the station a few times but didn't bother us they are slow going in and out of the station which is next to the harbour. You are looking down at the train so no-one can look into the room. It's a few minutes walk to Whitby Harbour and town no need to move the car to enjoy its delights.

Although this was our fifth time staying at the Engine Shed it was the first time in the Repton apartment. Cleanliness was to the usual great standard. Staff are always friendly. Welcome bits and pieces are always appreciated. The only one slight recommendation (and this is no way a moan but a personal request) would be some nice wine glasses rather than the chunky glasses and the two mismatched ones that were available. Would definitely recommend and we are booking again for next year.

Hi Andy, Thank you for the great feedback, we appreciate it. I'm just about to review the apartment's inventory this month and note your comment on wine glasses. We also had an issue with the dishwasher as it will only was on the 'economy' programme. However, we would like to take the opportunity of praising the services of Marie who dealt with the issues straight away, even coming out in her own time on a Saturday to solve problems. As regular visitors (already booked for next year) please can you ask the owner for a new hoover, the current one does not work effectively and also a new ironing board cover. Oh and new batteries in the kitchen clock please -it has read ten to two for the past 2 years lol. We always love our stay at The Engine Shed and have recommended to several friends. High quality with caring staff. Looking forward to next year.

  • "Overall, the stay was a positive experience."

The facilities and equipment in the apartment are excellent. the kitchen is well-equipped and so is the bathroom. There is a comfortable sofa and overall it was a pleasant place to be. Both of us, however, found the bed to be unbelievably uncomfortable and it was not easy to sleep most nights. There are some beautiful old beams in the building too, but they have quite a thick layer of dust on them which is not ideal from the perspective of someone with allergies such as myself. Otherwise, the apartment was prepared and cleaned nicely in advance. A few checks on small things to ensure they are still OK would be useful. The ironing board had no cover and wouldn't stay up which was a slight annoyance. There was a couple of other things like that too. However, the location of the apartment, the parking, the communal areas are all excellent features of this apartment. I am not sure I would stay again primarily because of the dust and the bed, but bed comfort can be a personal thing and not everyone is bothered by dust, so I wouldn't necessarily discourage people from staying as there is a lot this apartment has to offer.

  • "Really lovely stylish comfortable apartment but a few small things let it down such as: 1."

No table or floor lamp in the living room. This would have been nice to create mood lighting. Turning the ceiling lights off to watch tv meant we were sitting in the dark and had to use our phones as a torch to see the remote control. Keeping just some of the ceiling lightings on was too bright for watching tv. 2. If you’re a cook, you will be disappointed with the pans provided. Quality of frying pans did not match quality of the kitchen plus the handles were loose. There were 3 small saucepans but no large saucepan for boiling pasta. Also, a wok would have been nice. There is plenty of cupboard space available for extra cookware to be provided. 3. General shortage of kitchenware. Eg, no knife sharpener (some of the knives were blunt), pasta bowls would have been appreciated. The reason most people choose self catering is because they will probably want to stay in at night and cook in their holiday accommodation rather than eating out.

I wondered if being so close to the trainline would be noisy, but we actually got accustomed to the trains fairly quickly. The facilities in the kitchen, living area, and the bathroom were excellent. Lots of storage in the bedroom too though, and I appreciate not everyone likes the same kind of bed, the bed was not the most comfortable and would probably take my own pillows if staying again.... but I definitely would stay again. The one disappointment was that the hot water stopped working mid-way through the stay. I contacted the phone number and email address left in the book in the apartment, but never heard back on either - and still haven't. Fortunately, the same day, the cleaner made contact to see if we wanted fresh bedding and towels. I asked her if she could help. She provided an immediate solution so we could shower that evening, and the water was back on by lunchtime the next day. Thank goodness she got in touch when she did as who knows if I would ever have heard back from the telephone or email contacts. Notwithstanding the glitch with the water and the lack of communication on it, the apartment was excellent. I would stay there again and have already recommended it to several people.

Loved the decoration and design inside. Gorgeous comfy couch and lovely firm bed. Only criticism was the lack of a shelf or soap dish in the shower. My husband has had both hips replaced and bending down can be quite difficult and uncomfortable for him. Having to keep bending down in the shower wasn’t ideal. A small shelf would’ve made all the difference. Apart from that it was perfect. Loved seeing the steam trains. There are sparrows nesting above the bedroom window which we could constantly hear but we got used to that! Even the 6.30am train service didn’t bother us. We soon fell back to sleep. The parking was a real bonus. We left the car there and got the bus to staithes and Robin hoods bay. Perfect holiday.
