These items had not been cleaned properly by a previous occupant and we had to wash each item before use. Even knives had been replaced in the knife block with traces of food still attached. Again no attempt had been made to clean these items properly after use. The light on the landing was not working and neither were two of the bulbs in the kitchen.

  • "A lovely cosy, comfortable cottage, extremely well maintained and furnished with everything you need."

It is in a very central location, directly behind the railway station and just 2 mins walk into the town centre, yet on a very quiet and peaceful street with the bonus of having a dedicated parking space. Beautiful views looking directly across the marina towards the Abbey and a lovely outdoor seating area to watch the steam trains passing. The station is quiet as only one train came through every hour. We have stayed in quite a few cottages in Whitby and have returned to Stephenson's cottage or Hudson cottage next door at least 5 times now as they are absolutely ideal.

  • "Just returned from a week's stay in Stephensons Cottage and highly recommend a stay here."

The cottage is extremely clean, well maintained, furnished and equipped with the most comfortable double bed. It is ideally situated in the centre of Whitby ,a 5 minute walk to the harbour area and is overlooking the marina with a lovely view towards the Abbey. The cottage has it's own designated parking space right outside which is almost unheard of in Whitby and is situated behind the train station and bus terminal so no need to use a car if preferred. Excellent walks along the beach or cliff tops to Sandsend and so many lovely cafe's, restaurants and pubs to choose from. This is our 2nd stay at Stophensons cottage and 3rd stay with Sykes on Railway Terrace- we love it so much and will definitely be back

  • "Very pleasant and convenient place to stay."

Own parking very useful. Pity the steam trains were not running, one of the reasons for choosing this location. As an older person did find the step over the bath very high, walk in showers are easier. Taps in kitchen and push button toilet flush slightly difficult. Minor considerations younger people would not notice, all in all it was very satisfactory.

  • "This is our 2nd stay at Railway Cottages (last time next door in Hudson Cottage) These cottages are ideally located, being in central Whitby within easy walking distance to the town centre, yet being on a very quiet road."

They have a wonderful view of Whitby marina looking across to the Abbey, with a lovely patio/garden area where you can watch the trains pass by. Stephenson cottage was warm, exceptionally clean and well furnished, beautifully comfy bed, lovely big bath with shower and the bonus of it's own parking space (a rarity in Whitby) The only thing that let this property down was the lack of a welcome pack on arrival, not even basics of teabags or milk so unable to make a drink until we went out to buy some, it is the first time in many years of renting cottages that we have not received one usually with a welcome note from the owners so was quite disappointed.

Hi there, we really appreciate your feedback, we are glad you had a great time at the cottage but are sorry to hear you did not receive your welcome pack. Unfortunately your booking came after a period when the cottage had been closed for bookings for refurbishment and maintenance and there a was a mis-communication between us and the lady who helps us that meant the welcome pack appears to have been missed. We do supply a pint of milk, tea, coffee sugar and a treat from the local Botham's bakery. But in this instance it wasn't there for you and we are very sorry. We completely agree that a cup of tea on arrival is a must! Hopefully this has not put you off too much, and we very much hope that you will stay with is again. If at any time you want to contact us, our details can be found in our welcome guide, we will always do out very best to assist to ensure that you have a most enjoyable stay. Again our apologies for this, we appreciate you highlighting this as it enables us to make your experience better in future stays. Best Regards, Steve and Ruth, Stephenson Cottage Property Owner
