  The house is very warm and comfortable. Sounds a small thing but we appreciate the provision of handwash in all the bathrooms/toilets and the supply of cleaning materials in the kitchen and bathrooms. The location is superb - a 10 minute walk away from Whitby old town so no worries about parking.

  Before we arrived the ow was were really helpful with a couple of requests we had. The house is really well maintained and the sofas in the living room are an amazing bonus after a long day walking round Whitby. The second sitting room downstairs is great as well when you have 3 generations there and everyone wants to watch something different. Would definitely stay here in the future

  It was warm and comfortable which was appreciated by our family during quite a wet week! The location is excellent; just a 15 minute level walk from the swing bridge in Whitby. We hardly used the cars during our stay. We shall certainly book the property again.

• "Our multi- generational family group had a fabulous time in Whitby and The Shipwrights was the perfect base."

  It is the most comprehensively stocked house we have had stayed in. Everything was thought of and it made our stay so easy and relaxed. Spotlessly clean and very spacious. My in laws from Germany were amazed at the location, space and amenities. The highlight for them was watching the steam train leave the station at 10am each morning after breakfast. Location was incredibly quiet: we barely saw or heard a thing all week from the house. We would definitely recommend this house. We are just sorry that we may not have the news of a large house again. (teenage children who are not keen to holiday with parents for much longer). Thank you to The Shipwrights.

• "This was the third time that we had booked The Shipwrights but because of Covid the first opportunity to stay there."

  We were not disappointed. The location is excellent and close to the many busy attractions of Whitby. There were four adults and two children in our party and there was ample room and comfort for all of us. As advertised, every thing that we required was provided and the two parking spaces so close to the town were very much appreciated. I would have no second thoughts about returning to The Shipwrights.

  Liked how much storage there was with plenty of clothes hangers! Everything we needed, or could have needed, was available, which is a relief with the kids! Only issue were that the beds were a bit noisy and when the water was on it made the pipes bang. It didn't effect us too much though. Would come back to stay.

• "The property is well situated to Whitby town centre, close enough that you can walk into town but not too close so that you get disturbed by people coming and going."

  The cottage is nice, the only downside is that they don’t provide towels which means you have to pack them which is a bulky item to put in your suitcase. A lot of the floorboards make noises when you walk on them, this could do with being looked at really because it noisy in both the room you are in and on the floor below you, i.e. if someone is walking around on the middle floor and someone is trying to sleep in the bottom bedroom it can wake them up or disturb them if they are having a rest.

  Facilities provided were great and beyond expectations. Puzzles and games provided to suit all ages, toilet rolls in each of the two bathrooms and the toilet, handsoap, bath mats, washing up liquid and cloths etc. Dishwasher and tablets. Washing machine and dryer in a separate utility room, we are so happy not to be doing endless amounts of washing on our return home. There's a rotary washing line in the garden and an indoor airer for when it's wet outside. An iron and ironing board. Plenty of crockery, cutlery and utensils. A full sized fridge freezer. Table and chairs to seat 8. Will be sure to return someday.

• "Excellently maintained property - clean and welcoming."

  Kitchen is fully equipped and has enough cutlery, glasses, cups, saucers, plates and dishes for a full household. Location is perfect as it is only a 10 minute walk down a slight gradient from the house to the swing bridge that leads into the centre of town. There is a short cut on the way back that bypasses the steps outside the house. The property has a book containing useful information, contact details and recommendations for dining out. Our party was made up of two couples, one child, a 21 year old and a 78 year old. The ground floor bedroom is ideal for an older person who cannot manage too many stairs and there is a toilet next door. The utility room on the ground floor gives access to the garden and has a washing machine and dryer. The first floor kitchen is excellent for getting together over food and we found it ideal for playing trivial pursuit. The only thing we could criticise is the TV and lounge furniture - the TV crackled sometimes and although the sofa is comfortable it was easy to slip down into a horizontal position and often difficult to get up from. This would not stop me from booking this property again but I would hope the sofa is replaced in the not too distant future. An excellent holiday property in an excellent location.

  Located conveniently for the centre of Whitby, it is clean, bright and comfortable. The owners are friendly and responsive. We had a great week. Thank you, Shipwright’s. If I had a gripe, I would like to be bombarded with fewer emails from Sykes. Ideally, none at all would be nice. This is, of course, no criticism of the Shipwright’s itself. BG

  It’s the best accommodation we have stayed in. We particularly appreciated a spacious house suitable for our extended family of all ages, with parking in a quiet location only a short walk from town. Our children loved playing in the small park opposite, which made getting them ready on a morning a speedy pleasure! We would definitely recommend and stay again.

• "The only small criticism we had of an otherwise excellent, very well equipped and located holiday house was that the main sitting room was not sympathetically furnished for us."

  We were a family party of 6 who wanted to spend evenings playing board & card games together. The bulky sitting room furniture would probably be ideal for tv/dvd watching, but was a bit unforgiving for us. All other furnishings were excellent, and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend 'The Shipwrights'.
