Location very central to Whitby town centre , approximately 5 minute walk , perfect for exploring . The only minor issue was the front door was hard to lock but apart from that lovely home

  • "Our second visit was very enjoyable."

Two small repairs could be done, the cold cock in the main bathroom was leaking and the light for shaver did not work. Heating valves do not work correctly. The owner could save energy costs. Otherwise all fine as usual.

  • "We have just returned after our New Year break, six adults one 3 month old baby and two dogs!"

We were slightly worried having read a few reviews. However, once again, we trusted Sykes Cottages, and they certainly didn t disappoint. The house was absolutely spotless, location excellent. There was everything we needed, glasses, crockery was more than ample. The house was lovely and warm. I can never understand the trivial grumbles. We would definitely return, and would highly recommend Sykes Cottages AND this property. Alan Benton Rotherham South Yorks.

The only comment is that a check out of time of 9am spoils your last day especially as the check in time is 4.30 on the first day. A 10am check out time would be better now that we are now out of the Covid restrictions.

We booked this because when I rang and asked about bedroom arrangements they said there was a ground floor bedroom which they was but I did say my mother had mobility problems what they didn’t tell me was the kitchen and living room was on the second floor so they must of expected her to stay in her bedroom all the time and no shower facilities on the ground floor either they really need to list their property’s in a correct manner we was really disappointed if it wasn’t for a family member booking another apartment we would have had to go back home and miss our holiday also the property wasn’t very clean I think they just rely on the previous people to clean it when they leave we certainly left it cleaner than we found it

  • "Lovely, spacious property located within easy walking distance of the town, with the added bonus of having an allocated parking space."

Generally very clean but with one exception - the extractor fan filters were caked with fluff and consequentially very noisy when being used. We chose not to use some of the china because it was chipped. The beds were creaky and some of the mattresses were not all comfortable. Some of the window safety handles on the first and second floor were broken. Appliance manuals were not always applicable to the current appliances in the property and, unfortunately, the web site for manuals contains no information at all. The 2 vacuum cleaners did not work. We have brought these problems to the attention of the owner who had advised that he is looking into the problems. That said, if the problems mentioned above are all addressed then we would have no hesitation in booking this property again or in recommending it to others. We had a great week at Tides Reach.

  • "This is a lovely, well-appointed property."

Ideal for a large family group and close to the attractions of Whitby. We particularly appreciated the well-equipped kitchen and the large sitting room. The only reason I have put "met expectations" instead of "exceeded expectations" is that we have stayed in this property before. I must add that last year we had a disappointing experience with Sykes, but this year everything ran smoothly, thus restoring our confidence in the company.

Great self catering accommodation. Great location close to town but out of hustle. Play park was a big bonus. A bit more information on location of supermarkets would have been useful. As would info on re cycling and waste. Both beds on top floor in need of repair. Bedding and towels of good quality. Nice touch with tea coffee and milk on arrival. Would happily return

Good dog walks from the doorstep. 5-10 mins walk to the town, but well away from the crowds. The accommodation itself was very comfortable with a nice little courtyard garden. Having been brought up in the area it was really nice to experience Whitby this way. Particularly enjoyed getting in the early mornings and late evenings for a stroll when it was a quieter town

  • "Under the current restrictions and with a later check in time I would expect any holiday house to be spotless."

instead rooms had been superficially cleaned and did not meet our expectations. most rooms had cobwebs which could easily be removed but had been left. the bathrooms were had ingrained dirt. the seals round taps and the showers were mouldy. on arrival I had to go and buy batteries because none of the clocks in the house worked. the main lamp in the living room never worked even with a new bulb. there was no fire alarms. one of the catches on one of the kitchen windows was broken so the window could fully open. this is not acceptable when you are on the first floor and have a child. there is a huge crack in the player beside the front door. overall these may all seem petty complaints but when you rent a house for a week you would expect the basics to be right. I even had to go out and buy bleach for the kitchen sink due to the smell. this house has loads of potential and is ideal size for parties of 6 to 8 people and is ideally situated with two parking spaces. A little investment in this property along with a proper deep clean (including moving the furniture and getting the filth underneath the couches) is required .

  • "Your customer service left a lot to be desired."

Having booked a cot and high chair - essential when you have a baby in the party - and my wife rang to try and confirm this, she was at first kept hanging on the line for ages before getting through. She was then informed that because of GDPR you were unable to speak to me as my name was on the booking - I am quite conversant with GDPR and fail to see how ordering a cot and high chair can be a personal identifier. You then failed to inform the changeover team about the cot and high chair, so it was not available in the accommodation when we arrived. Luckily for us, the cottage owner was very helpful and got the problem sorted out - no thanks to you. It is little things like this which really matter when using a booking agent. If you could not sort out this problem, or be bothered to answer the phone in a timely manner, or communicate effectively with the cottage owner we would not trust you or recommend you in future. We have also heard negative feedback in the same vein from other people who have used your organisation - sort it out!

We were a party of 8 ( aged 16 to 72) with 2 dogs and the house accommodated us all easily and had everything we needed. We had a great time fishing for crabs ( all safely returned unharmed to the sea of course) over the estuary railings 2 minutes walk from the house and enjoyed several days out to Sandsend, Robin Hood Bay and Scarborough. front door needs painting and some maintenance on door lock, tv system lacks proper facility's eg sky or now tv ect. Kids room could do with small tv and games station. 1 last thing would be a facility to charge a electric car, even a 13amp water resistant socket would help, but a 7k wall charger (untethered) would be great and a fantastic addition to any property rented, in only a couple of years electric cars will be very common place. Overall we had a lovely few days, the house is warm and spacious with all required equipment. Attention to detail would be nice at this price point 518£ for 4 nights is not cheap for febuary. Allowing pets is a very nice thing.
