  • "Positives were, location, parking, spotlessly clean and many more."

There were only two negatives, the bed was really uncomfortable with the centre split and the Chesterton settee, though it looked the part was impossible to relax on as you kept slipping off.

  • "A beautiful place to stay."

Really luxurious. It was well equipped with everything we needed and the "welcome pack" was a nice touch. (the biscuits were delicious and made us find the bakers to take packs home for family). The free parking was really important for us too as we just wanted to walk to places. Loved the trains going by too.

  • "Absolutely first class accommodation in Whitby, just a short walk into town and all amenities."

We visit Whitby on a regular basis over a lot of years and have stayed in a variety of holiday accommodation and most have been excellent but tornado@engine sheds will take some beating. The accommodation was perfect and well equipped but the steam trains passing by and actually stopping outside the window to change the engine direction was very special. We met Jo on one occasion and she told us all about the history of the engine sheds, she was very knowledgeable, thanks Jo. We had a great time in Tornado and will definitely be back soon. Thank you.

We stayed over the holiday period and really appreciated the Christmas tree and decorative touches. The apartment is perfectly placed for exploring Whitby. Being near to the harbour meant it was ideal for older family members who could explore the flatter parts of Whitby while younger family members could tackle the abbey steps.

The trains added an extra something - especially for the children. Having parking is an added bonus in a busy seaside town. We would definitely stay again. You may not want to publish this part - the hoover doesn't work - totally full up or something - which made life hard with all the sand and the floors weren't brilliantly hoovered when we arrived either (probably because of the broken hoover). Just small things to remedy to make someone else's stay perfect. Thanks

The Internet comes one and off and even when it is "on" it is VERY slow. To be very clear, the issue is not the router, as the connection to our devices shows a very strong signal. But the internet just does not work all the time, and when it works, it is slow. As I am not from the UK, I depend heavily on the wireless internet to conserve my mobile data charges, so this was a big problem for me. If I have to do any Zoom or video calls (unfortunately I do not), it would be a big problem. I would not recommend this property for someone who needs do remote work. This needs to be resolved. Fortunately, this is the only issue, and besides this the property was great!!!

Safe and secure underground car park. High quality fixtures and fittings. Well equipped kitchen including washer/dryer, coffee machine and dish washer. My husband always grades accommodation on the shower and this one was ranked very highly, as it was a double walk-in power shower with overhead and standard shower heads! • "These are just suggestions to the owners to improve their already lovely apartments even more."

In the shower, a shelf or shower caddy would be handy, so shampoo, shower gel etc can be easily got at. In the second bedroom closet, a vacuum cleaner & bucket where housed which would be inconvenient for anyone trying to hang clothes. I noticed recess areas in the corridors & would suggest doors are fitted to these areas & the vacuum cleaners etc could be stored there instead, thus freeing up the closet space.

  • "We had a really good holiday in Tornado, which has been very nicely converted."

Future bookers should be aware that it’s not just steam engines that go right past (at a reasonable time), but mainline trains also go past from not long after 6am. If you’re a light sleeper, there is very little chance of sleeping in! The mattress might be a bit firm for some. The only facility we missed (and had to buy) was a cafetière, as we drink decaffeinated coffee. Otherwise we had everything we needed. The Engine Shed is in a good location for walking into the centre of Whitby and the ability to park under cover was much appreciated, especially as it was raining when we had to pack up to leave.

The kitchen/lounge was lovely as was the bathrooms. The garage facility was excellent and the welcome hamper was a lovely surprise. The twin bedroom whilst the furnishings were very nice, the lack of anywhere to put clothes proved a problem. There was a cupboard which could have used as a wardrobe but was full with a vacuum cleaner, clothes airer and and bedding. The main bedroom was beautiful but once again the wardrobe was full of a high chair, a cot and spare bedding. We feel this apartment was more suitable for a family than 4 adults. We did however enjoy our stay and perhaps we would chose a different apartment on our next visit.

The apartment had everything we needed plus more. The location was perfect and my kids loved watching the trains go by. The only problem we had was the lock on the front door, it was just a twist lock on the inside. I have a child with autism who likes to wander so would recommend having some sort of bolt at the top of the door that can't be reached. Other than that was perfect.

As it was dark when we arrived it was not clear where the door for the accommodation was located. In the main bedroom the curtains were not thick enough to keep the bright lights of the railway station and car park from making the room feel light. The lounge area had crumbs on the sofa and there was lipstick on the wine glasses. On the positive side excellent place to relax and although next to a railway line there was only 3 local trains that went past. Bathroom and cooking facilities were excellent and security was also good. I would recommend this accommodation and it would be 10/10 if I did not have to write the negative bits above.

The welcome pack and greeting was a great start to our 10 nights. The owner was really helpful regarding parking as our car was too tall for the parking with the roof top box. Everything was a high standard and thought out with care. A good supply of towels, including tea towels and kitchen hand towel, toilet rolls and kitchen rolls, hand wash, dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid all helpful on saving space in the car. A washer dryer that actually works well and good sized cooking facilities. The view of the trains were excellent - the first train is after 8am and then finish well before little ones need their bed - would be great treat for a real steam enthusiast. The location was really good with children walking most places and had a break from driving. First time staying in Whitby and would definitely look for these apartments first if we returned to Whitby. We really appreciated the bath in this apartment (the only one in the engine shed). On an extra positive note for families, the owner provided the best cot and additional mattress for it that we have her had in years of travelling with little ones. There is a co-op around the corner which opens late - very handy. The accommodation lives up to the pictures in this case. The only problem will be whether they are available in the future and we want to book again. A lovely holiday enjoyed by all of us.
