  • "Door requires planning have to tug it to get in, perhaps some additional pillows for the bed (wafer thin) and WOW the amount of noise that comes from the above living accommodation is absolutely shocking!"

There were 7 in total and the amount of noise from 07:00 in the morning until 20:00 at night was ridiculous, couldn't relax through the day, getting woken up in a morning, couldn't settle on an evening, I fear anyone staying here whilst the above property is in use will be having the same issues, myself and my partner have been coming to Whitby for quite some years now and we always look forward to it every year, making fantastic memories the only thing that let it down those time am afraid was the accommodation.

  • "Lovely little apartment."

Cleanliness, equipment and location flawless. Major negative was the sole rainfall shower. For decent hygiene these should always be installed with a detachable hand held head; we are not all contortionists. As an added annoyance, both the pressure and the water temperature - not above 38C - had been throttled in the shower. Both were fine in the kitchen sink suggesting this was intentional. Other minor points; bedroom is very narrow so the wooden double bed end results in bruises and there is nowhere to hang towels while in bathroom. Sort these things and all would be perfect.

Hi Caroline, thanks for the feedback, we will put extra towel hooks on back of the door and will check out the thermostat . Pleased you enjoyed your stay. Sarah Owner Property Owner

Its so easy to get around and walkable to Whitby harbour. Parking was easy. Bed was comfortable, shower was great. Great use of space. Lovely kiosk for hot drinks and appreciating the view, beach not far away. So relaxed after my stay there, making plans to come back in September.

Hi, so pleased you enjoyed your stay and yes Claras ice cream parlour and coffee house is soooo good being only a few steps away. I have even done it in my PJs before. Don't judge, I was on holiday!!! Sarah Owner Property Owner

  • "This holiday apartment is very noisy if people are on holiday in the above ..."

This holiday apartment is very noisy if people are on holiday in the above house, not deliberate noise but general walking about, and up stairs,it says nothing about it being a basement apartment, there is very limited natural light, the rear door to the property,is in constant use,we were asked not to park at the rear of the property except for unloading ,yet the family living in the house constantly parked at the rear,

Thanks for your feedback. Scratch cards are provided for parking on the street, as the designated car parking at the rear of the property is only for the main house and not the basement apartment as detailed on the site. I think the general noise from the main house will have been slightly louder over the Xmas period and I apologise if this caused you any disturbance. Access to the back communal entrance is only used by yourselves and the main house. We hope to see you again and please note the house and the basement flat can be hired together for larger gatherings. Property Owner

  • "I didn't realise the whole apartment was basement level, but that's my fault for misreading the listing."

The two windows at either end of the kitchen/dining room/lounge, looked out onto brick walls. The floor felt gritty underfoot and there were cobwebs in the bathroom and bedroom. We had an issue with the car parking scratch card as we assumed it was for the week and it turned out only to be a 2 day parking card and we got a parking ticket. When we contacted the owner of the property, she said we should've had scratch cards to cover us for the whole week and she'd get the cleaner to drop one off for us the next day. In the meantime we had to pay for a day's parking out of our own pocket. Owner said she'd reimburse us for parking fine and the extra parking charge we had to pay and she has only just done this 3 weeks after we returned home. On the plus side, the bed was extremely comfortable and the apartment was nicely furnished. Always a bonus to have a dishwasher and washing machine too. Personally, I felt very claustrophobic being in a basement apartment with only 1 set of stairs as an exit.

Car parking scratch cards are issued in 2 and 4 day blocks with instructions on how to use them. Sorry that you made an error when using them, but we did reimburse you for your parking fine and issue you further scratch cards, so that it did not spoil your holiday. Thank you for staying with us. For your next holiday in Whitby you may be interacted in our 4 bedroom house with garden, rather than the basement apartment. Hope to see you again in Whitby. Property Owner

  • "Although the basement apartment is compact it had everything we needed."

Unfortunately, there was a family of approximately 5 adults and 4 children staying in the house above the apartment so it was very noisy esp. with footsteps as the house has wooden floors. The cleanliness seemed okay initially but on further inspection the skirting boards and around the back of the toilet were not clean and requires a thorough deep clean. There is no allocated parking however, parking permits were provided and we managed to park close by. The garden was a little overgrown and the furniture cushions are left out so they get wet. We had a great time in Whitby walking the coastal paths and were out most days. Sadly, I wouldn't stay here again owing to the house situated above.

The apartment was perfect for the 2 of us. An ideal location close to the centre but nice and quiet, and the flat was spacious and well equipped. Parking with permits worked well and we never had to park further than 2 minutes from the property.

  • "We missed a window in the bedroom."

Because it's a basement with not much ventilation it was a bit stuffy. The shower is definitely the best thing in the house. Location is good. Everything was very clean when we arrived. Loved the welcoming pack. Please buy a coffee maker! We had trouble getting rid of the garbage because the blue bin was full and not emptied during the week. We used the neighbours bin. The green bin was around the corner, we took it to the house. Maybe you can make sure there's either information for the guests when to put the bins at the street or someone else has to take care of this.

The prosecco and biscuits left for us were a lovely touch too. Location wise the apartment was perfect, the seafront is less than 1 minute walk away and the town centre only a 5 minute walk. This was our first time in Whitby and we found lots to do and see, plus some excellent restaurants. The bedroom is compact but there was plenty of space in the living area where we kept our suitcases etc. The kitchen was really well equipped except the only couple of things we couldn't find were a bottle opener and a baking tray, which would have been handy. Overall we loved our stay and would highly recommend, thank you so much.

It was very well planned and had everything you might need (including washing machine!). The bed and sofa were comfortable and the whole place was spotlessly clean. We loved the fit out and decoration too! There was plenty of space to store or hang clothes and towels being provided was a real bonus. We are not sure that we would return but the only reason is because it was very noisy due to inconsiderate neighbours upstairs. Children running around creates an awful lot of noise in the space below and it did somewhat ruin our stay.
