  • "We enjoyed our time at Croft Head Cottage very much!"

It was clean and had everything we needed. We particularly appreciated the welcome tea and shortbread on our arrival. The bed linen and towels were crisp clean. The location is ideal for exploring the area. We enjoyed many hikes and stargazing! We would definitely recommend staying!

  • "A lovely cottage in a beautiful little village."

Entrance tucked around the corner off the main road. On street parking but the road is just about only used by locals. The cottage itself has everything you would need with all the necessaries in the kitchen should you be “eating in”. The double bedroom is a reasonable size with views over the fields South. The wardrobe is on the landing outside. The twin single room upstairs is perfect for a couple of children or a third (or fourth) person. This has its own toilet and sink. The main bathroom, on the same floor as the main bedroom is nice with a good bath but the shower is only a “hand held” type with no curtain. All in all perfect for a base to explore the moors.

  • "Would have been nice to have the option to bbq on the patio."

(bbq not provided).3 dining chairs ( four people?).very uncomfortable bed ,mattress dipped in the middle, mattress topper didn’t help. Great Location for sightseeing.

Thank you for your feedback, which we are disappointed to hear. We try hard to provide holiday accomodation that is comfortable and we hope great value for money, and are disappointed that we did not meet your expectations. You are very welcome to use disposable BBQ's on the patio. 4 dining chairs are provided in the cottage. Furniture sometimes gets moved around and we will double check at changeover, that everything is in the right place. Mattress softness depends on personal preference and based on earlier feedback, we added a topper to the firm mattress, to improve this again we have organised a replacement. Thanks again for your feedback, which we appreciate and helps us to improve. Property Owner

  • "We really enjoyed our stay at Croft Head Cottage in the quiet and beautiful village of Wrelton."

The cottage was clean, cosy and I slept really well there as the bed I used was so comfortable. My parents also enjoyed the cottage, which is close to Pickering. I briefly met both owners, Martin and Gayle, who are both friendly and made sure our stay was great. The tea, milk and shortbread biscuits they provided was a nice touch. I would definitely recommend a visit to their cottage.

Only one fault the double bed was very uncomfortable and caused myself and my wife a lot of distress with back pain.

Thank you for the feedback. We try very hard to prepare the cottage and are delighted that you appreciated this. We are really sorry that you found the mattress uncomfortable. Mattress comfort is tricky to get right as some people prefer a harder mattress and others a softer one. We replace mattresses on a regular basis and will definitely take your comments on board when we next replace this one. Property Owner

  • "A brilliant place to unwind and relax with long evenings in by the woodburner."

A wonderful place to feel the history of the area and be close to the people who lived there. The old wrelton range in the kitchen was a treasure ( we found something similar at Fairfax house in york) The steam trains and ancient landscapes, Roman footprint and railway history across the whole north York moors national park was amazing. We loved the Local Catholic church in Pickering which was so welcoming and we felt awed by the local saint Fr Nicholas postgate who was martyred for his ministry to the local people and lived and worked in pickering as a gardener for many years

  • "We arrived a little earlier than planned but was made to feel welcome the moment we met the cottage owners."

The cottage itself is stunning and kept immaculate, we was greeted with a pot of tea ready to be made and biscuits - my kind of welcome! My daughters were kept amused in the evenings with a collection of dvds and board games provided, they also enjoyed having their own little ensuite. We was always comfortable during our stay, the cottage was kept warm in the evenings but I recommend bringing slippers or thick socks due to the stone floor downstairs. Building wise, it's on 3 levels and it took some getting used to with the steep stairs and little people. No proper shower but a hand held one which for us never caused an issue. We had a washing machine in the cottage and a clothes airer which, with kids, came in handy! We was a short walk from a pub which served beautiful food and the best gin collection I had seen! A half hour or so drive to Scarborough, Whitby, York etc and we was out and about doing something somewhere every day. We would love to book again sometime in the future, a beautiful cottage, friendly owners and the location is ideal.

20 miles from Whitby, York and Scarborough. Directions to the cottage were extremely accurate although you need to be careful on the road going in as it's a bit blind and some of the locals drive too fast. Cottage was lovely and we were provided with more than we expected, and had had in previous cottages we'd booked. Only saw the owners when arriving and leaving, but they were next door if we needed them which we didn't. There is a Lidl Supermarket on the main road in Pickering so an easy stop on the way back from a day out.

I have only given a tentative score re recommending Sykes due to the insurance issue. We are still looking into this and I foolishly did not ask the owners if they had insurance to cover accidental damage caused by the renters.
