"What a cozy cottage in a quaint community!"
A little bar just a short walk down the road is warm and welcoming— serves food lunch and dinner and has a side room to read or play board games. The ferry operates during summer months to make a quick jaunt north easy. Cottage was clean, quiet and comfortable as we had a cozy fireplace for the cool nights… would definitely come back !

"We had a nice relaxing break in this property."
It was quaint, comfortable and in a very enchanting village.
One or two minor negatives would be overgrown shrubbery which made seeing the key code on outside wall key safe very difficult because of light levels. The shower leaked onto the floor due to a sealing issue. Also in the bathroom there was unsightly black mould around outside of shower cubicle and above the window blind (photos can be provided). No handwash/soap in either bathroom or kitchen. In the sitting room which was comfy we found a dogs ball and bits of fluff etc under the couch obviously from previous rentals..missed by cleaner?
These small details marked this property down for us.

"Well decorated and comfortable."
Excellent sized kitchen area especially with the dog. Cute garden which does suffer from passers by stopping etc but that is to be expected in a small place. All in all we liked the cottage and the place and would return in future.

"Great location for walking on beach and countryside, pub two doors down with local beer and pub food that allowed dogs in!"
Easy walk to the village shop and local bakery.
Cottage had character of an older property but with all facilities there.
A larger and smart TV and a footstool would have been good for the evenings we were at home.

We also enjoyed our free entry to the Hugh Miller’s Birthplace cottage & museum. Interesting and a MUST SEE.
Fantastic cycle and walking opportunities around Cromarty.

"The cottage is very clean and comfortable and tastefully decorated."
It is well placed to enjoy all that Cromarty has to offer. We loved the Hugh Miller museum and the staff there are so friendly and knowledgeable. Unfortunately the weather was not warm enough to enjoy the garden but inside the cottage was cosy.
My only suggestion is for thicker towels as the ones provided are quite thin and we found it difficult to get ourselves fully dry before the towel got wet.
A word of advice- You do need to be very organised in Cromarty regarding shopping etc as most places are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

"Only a small problem with the rubbish."
The wheelie bins were quite full when we arrived. I put them out early on Wednesday but they weren’t lifted so the bins are still full.

"Cosy cottage in a great and quiet location with pub, coffee shops, bakery and mini supermarket within a few minutes walk."
Everything you need for a relaxing holiday. Very comfortable beds and well resourced kitchen. An extra bin bag would be useful! It's a lovely area and we would definitely stay here again.
Cromarty is a great wee village, a famous Scottish crime author does his writing there! Lydia Cottage is having a soft refurbishment in December 2023.

A sweeping brush would've been handy for kitchen and a couple of baking trays. Beds comfy nd clean,overall a great holiday.

"A perfect idyllic cottage on the Black Isle."
In the heart of Cromarty a stone throw away from the shore and main attractions of Cromarty. Facilities of the cottages were everything we needed for a last minute getaway for 2 nights. Kitchen was fully equipped with everything you could need. Livingroom had lovely soft furnishing and was well presented. The twin beds were exceptionally comfy. The overall cleanliness of the cottage was good. Minor things were that the throw pillows on the bed had lots of dog hair on them and beard hair was left on the mirror. We had a really great time and would recommend the cottage.

"Comfortable cottage in excellent quiet location."
The shape of the property means that a small wardrobe is unavoidable but things could be improved with the addition of a couple of chests of drawers in the bedroom to store clothes. We felt that we were living out of our suitcases.

"We had a fantastic holiday the cottage was ideal for us and cosy."
It was also very close to the sea. Our dog enjoyed the lovely walks in Cromarty as well. We will certainly be booking another holiday in Lydia Cottage hopefully next year.

"We have stayed at Lydia cottage many times and have always enjoyed the charm of the cottage and the garden and the village of Cromarty."
Unfortunately however, the beds are extremely uncomfortable. Obviously the mattresses have not been exchanged since our first stay many year ago and you can feel the springs coming through. That diminishes the comfort of the cottage to a considerable degree and needs to be adressed by the National Trust.

"We liked Lydia Cottage, it's well situated in the village and has some character."
Cromarty itself is a lovely place to visit and we liked being so close to the firth.
The living room and kitchen were lovely, with the latter being sympathetically modernised. We're not a fan of twin beds, however we knew that was the set up and given the pitch of the roof a double probably wouldn't work. A good quality sofa bed is the living room would provide an alternative and would allow the cottage to sleep 4.
Thank you for your feedback. As with all typical Scottish croft cottages and Fishertown cottages the bedrooms are situated under a coomb ceiling so it does restrict how we set out the beds. Thank you for your suggestion about a sofa bed.

"We had a very enjoyable stay in Cromarty."
Lydia cottage is just right for two people; the bedroom is filled with light and has a charming view over rooftops to the sea. Kitchen, living room and bathroom downstairs are all comfortable. It's a pleasure to step out into Cromarty's friendly and beautiful eighteenth-century streets. A fine place from which to explore the Black Isle and beyond. (Don't fail to try the delicious food at Sutor Creek on Bank St.)

"It is a shame that the garden has not been kept up well - it needs a lot of attention."
Also, we felt it was a bit mean to leave only a tiny amount of washing up liquid and only 2 tablets for the dishwasher. Because of Covid, there was only a small amount of cutlery and crockery left out for us, which we felt was a little over the top. However, we recognise that people in Scotland are very much stricter about the rules regarding Covid.
The Trust only leaves enough consumable materials for the evening of the night of arrival, which includes washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets and hand soap. The expectation is that guests will furnish the rest of their cleaning supplies. The removal of extra cutlery and crockery is a requirement of the National Trust for Scotland's anti-Covid precautions policy which is designed to keep our visitors and staff safe and well.

"All the books and dvds had been removed."
There was barely enough cutlery and plates etc,
because of COVID?! I haven’t stripped my holiday cottage bare because of COVID so why have has this cottage?
The removal of books, games and DVDs, also the extra cutlery and crockery is a requirement of the National Trust for Scotland's anti-Covid precautions policy which is designed to keep our visitors and staff safe and well.

"We had a terrific week in the Lydia Cottage."
The cottage was just the right size for 2 people and 2 well behaved scotties. The garden was enchanting,butterflies and bees made sitting in the sunshine an absolute pleasure.The locally made shortbread was a nice touch . So much to do in the area we will need to return.Try the slaughterhouse coffee shop and sutor creek deli both very good.

"This is a lovely wee cottage in the heart of Cromarty."
The cottage was the perfect size for 2 people and had everything we needed.
I'm not sure whether the gardener had been recently but it was rather unruly and weedy.
Cromarty itself is a very lovely and interesting fisher town village with a lovely coffee shop at the pier. Lovely shops and very good food at The Royal Hotel.
It is lovely to read that you enjoyed your stay in our unique village. We had been unable to carry out our weekly gardening routine during the lockdowns but we can now get back to the routine. Just a note to say that we don not use herbicides on the garden.
