We had an issue with losing the front door key which was efficiently rectified by Skyes and Andy the owner. We have stopped here for holidays in the past and we love its rural location and the property suits our needs. It’s a great base to travel around the local area and l would recommend it.

  • "Wonderful holiday, very family friendly accommodation."

Wonderful welcome pack on arrival. Very good location to get to the A1 to reach all the coastline and towns. Lovely farm shop and tea room up the road ‘Oxford Farm Shop’ where you can get home made biscuits, cakes and meringues. Bedrooms: Very clean and tidy with comfy mattresses and bedding, although some of the wooden frames could do with tightening as a bit creaky. Lounge/Kitchen/dining: lovely open plan space. An abundance of crockery and cutlery, lots of cooking and baking items, maybe one or two flat baking trays would be useful. Also could do with a standalone clothes airer for when its wet outside - there is nowhere to dry clothes inside that you dont want to use a dryer for (and need more pegs). Garden: Great size grounds for kids and dogs, garden furniture lovely. Garden isn’t enclosed so we used a long lead, otherwise very dog friendly. We also took a standalone child gate and blocked areas off internally as and when needed. I would definitely recommend staying here, we really had a wonderful holiday and really the only feedback is stuff the owners wouldn't know unless they spent a week living there so hopefully the few points help :). Just to condense the list, need: Flat baking trays Indoor clothes airer More pegs Sort creaky wooden beds Thank you for a wonderful stay!!

The house and grounds are very well maintained. The country roads are quiet - great if you are a cyclist - but access to bustling places like Berwick (or endlessly sandy beaches like Cocklawburn) is also easy. There isn't a local shop, but the Lowick Village Store is only 5 miles away and has a nice selection (in the same village, we had a very nice meal in the Black Bull). Our contact, Andy, was very helpful and made sure we had the information we needed for a very enjoyable mini-break.

The hot water is dangerously to hot has no TMHW mixing valves required in bsa and by-law since 2012. Their is lighting in the bathroom not current standards . On the plus side excellent location ,the garden has no shrubbery or flowers beds. The planters outside are being used as ashtrays disgusting! The Wi-fi is good. The area is lovely and excellent for bike rides, outdoor storage for bikes would be a great addition. As others have stated the property is becoming a little tired and needs maintaining. Many fittings in the ensuite need to be fixed, such as the towel rail on the shower screen and the shower fitting itself. Cleaning was seemingly rushed as under the beds were dusty, crockery and cutlery needed rewashing in some cases and we were a little concerned about the bait traps and mouse droppings in the bedroom wardrobes too. We understand the property is rural, but the droppings could have been cleaned up before we arrived. :(

Spacious for six adults and one dog. Plenty of crockery, cutlery, pots and pans etc. The property was very warm and we hardly had the heating on at all. Bedrooms were comfortable. Great that there was more than enough sofa space for 6 adults. Excellent oven although we couldn't get the smallest ring to light. A few light bulbs had gone in the living/kitchen area. Lovely quiet area with fantastic views but agree with other reviews, that it is a shame the outside area is not secure as our dog could only be outside on her lead. Berwick-Upon-Tweed is a great town and Spittal as the nearest beach were perfect to visit and top up on essentials. The place would be even better if: The garden had a secure enclosed area for children or dogs. High and eye level dusting in the corners had been missed. The bathrooms need a little TLC now where the moisture is starting to damage the walls a bit.

  • "Living in North Yorkshire, we have holidayed in Northumberland for over 30 years."

And have stayed at The Long Barn three times in recent years and always enjoyed our stay. This time (our 4th visit) there were four of us. Our overall first impressions of the property was that is was now looking very tired and needed better maintenance, cleaning and decorating: The en-suite needs urgent attention and probably a refit because: 1 - As you walk in the door the floor sinks under you and appears soft, as if it has been wet underneath for some time. 2 - The pipe and seal have come off the waste pipe behind the toilet and that area was very wet. The toilet is not properly secured and the screws are rusted. 3 - Water from the radiator pipe in the wall seems to be leaking into the wall that the radiator is attached to. The paint and some plaster has peeled off the wall and it appears to have longstanding damp problems. These leaks have obviously been going on for some time without correction. I took photos if you need them. We left a note on the kitchen table outlining these issues. And we used the bathroom during our stay. The property had not been cleaned properly - we all noticed that and used kitchen wipes to clean all the surfaces in every room. We also found a lot of dog hair in all the rooms (we don't have a dog). The dishwasher needs replacing - it appears to be the same one from our first visit years ago. The door didn't stay open, when stacking the dishes or emptying the machine, the cutlery basket didn't seem to belong to this machine and had to be balanced where we thought best, and it didn't clean well.. The fridge (as people have mentioned before) is too small for the numbers using the house. Was ok for previous stays when there were just two of us, but we struggled with fresh groceries for four people (and we did dine out during our stay) And wall cupboards and a cutlery drawer would improve the kitchen. Some of the lights didn't work and we couldn't find suitable light bulbs. The water pressure was set far too high in the property Two of the pillows in the double bedroom need throwing away - they may have been washed or used so many times, they are just full of lumps! I hope that you accept our honest feedback from a couple who have loved staying at this lovely property three times before. Pauline Wardman and Rick Smith

Well placed for visiting The Borders and Northumberland coast. Great for those with mobility issues although mum struggled with the low level toilets. Kitchen and particularly the cooker was excellent for those like of us who cook an evening meal. The only other comment I would make is that ventilation in the property was difficult to achieve without opening french doors into an insecure garden (I have dogs), and it would have been lovely to have the option of a second double bed/zip bed as I haven't slept in a single bed in over 40yrs! Just two negatives for me. Beautiful outdoor space but not a fully enclosed garden. I have a dog who is very much a guard dog and likely to bite anyone unknown to him. An enclosed garden is a must for me. I had the smallest bedroom, not that small really, which was lovely and comfortable but although there was a patio door that opened onto the garden there was no window, no way to allow air in, unless I left the outside door open, which I didn't wish to do, there were glass panels either side of the door, perhaps the owner could change something to allow an opening window? The barn was well equipped in the kitchen and very comfortable, fully heated though some of the timings were odd. Plenty of hot water. Clean and a lovely welcome pack for which we were very grateful. The barn is comfortable with plenty of space to relax, with a lovely garden. The only downside was having to vacate the property by 9.00am - we were informed there would be no relaxation of this time. I appreciate there is a pandemic on and that cleaning may well take longer than normal. However, we were asked to strip all the beds and place bedding and towels in plastic bags that were provided, as well as leave the barn as we found it. This meant that to get everything done, we were up at 7.00am to shower, eat, strip 5 beds and clean for a prompt 9.00 am departure. While it doesn't detract from the property, it did impact our last night of the break, having such an early start on what was meant to be a few days of relaxation.

We washed the dishes rather than use the dishwasher even though we all have them at home it was a nice change to have the time to do it ! The beds were comfortable and smelt fresh and clean. We would definitely return again and we know the area well due to being at Beadnell for over 50 yrs. All round fab time thank you so much! Even better if... it would have been useful to have the heads up re bin liners - the info said bring tea towels but no mention of bin liners and toilet rolls. A little more info re the heating system would have been great although we appreciate it is the winter and therefore hard to heat such a large space effectively. it was difficult to judge when to increase it and we did have a few chilly early evenings. We weren't exactly sure which was the correct thermostat to change and I worried when my son in law went to touch the one by the window thinking that one was the boiler and floor heating one - maybe a photo of the one we are not to touch in the folder would help.
