  • "Lovely house and wonderful location."

A pity it was too high-tech for us. Bob wasn’t allowed to use the induction hob because he has a pacemaker. So I tried. But I found it too difficult to make the hob work reliably. So we had to eat out more often than we would have chosen. But there were plenty of good choices for eating out. And Eyemouth was a great place to stay.

  • "Exceptional holiday cottage in a stunning location with top quality fittings and furnishings and lots of attention to detail from beautiful artworks to high end kitchen equipment."

Welcome pack was impressive and gratefully consumed! Watching the stormy seas was the 'icing on the cake'. Good range of independent shops, cafes and pubs in Eyemouth and a wide variety of coastal and inland walks within easy distance. Just something to note for those with pacemakers: the hob is an induction hob so out of bounds but the kitchen has an excellent microwave and oven

Thank you so much for your lovely review Sarah, and indeed your next booking. Subject to confirmation from our electrician, we will be fitting a unit with physical knobs instead of touching-sensitive controls. Thank you also for letting us know about the issue for people with pacemakers: we will check with our insurers if there might be an acceptable stand alone radiant heat ring worktop option that we could have in store for use when required. We will keep you informed of our progress. Property Owner

Property is well maintained and looked after. The selling point is the amazing view and great position for people watching. A lovely touch from the owners is the welcome pack which was much appreciated. Eyemouth has a fantastic bakers, butchers and fishmongers if you want to cook for yourself but also some great takeaways and places to eat out. A very relaxing holiday, the car didn’t move for a week. The only downside was looking to book for the same time next year as the price had risen by £300 so we may need to rethink which is a shame as we love it there.

  • "As an older person I found the stairs rather steep."

I liked the higher toilet in the wetroom but our adult son found the upstairs bathroom rather small. It was a shame that the bedroom blinds had to remain closed all the time for privacy as it would have been nice to lie in bed and look at the view. The seaview from the lounge is the main attraction and the welcome pack a thoughtful touch. Overall we enjoyed our stay and will always remember the boats going in and out of the harbour.

Thank you for coming to stay with us at Generals Yard Norma. We are really pleased that you enjoyed your stay. We purposely chose a higher toilet as part of making the home accessible so it is good to see this being recognised. The whole house is designed about the picture window and the chance to sit up above the beach and looking out across the bay to the horizon but that does mean that one may go up and down stairs more often in an “upside down” house. We will update our description to give a little more prominence to this and the position on the main footpath by the beach. Property Owner

  • "Cooker hob was not easy to use even after reading the instructions, this meant eating out a lot, and judging by the lack of use of the pans it would seem others had the same issue."

Although the beds were comfortable the rooms lacked hanging storage. When someone was trying to sleep, with the bedrooms being on the lower floor the sound of footsteps from lounge made it impossible to sleep or rest. The lovely red leather sofa looked great in the lounge but it wasnt very comfortable. The picture window over looking the bay was amazing and has the WOW factor.

The welcome pack very generous and greatly appreciated as we were only staying 3 nights self catering between hotel stops. As others have mentioned before the changing light over the sea is magical from the lounge picture window. For the owner only: The wet room central drainage was slow running and when the toilet flushed water bubbled up - used upstairs shower instead

We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay and are grateful for your kind and helpful comments. We do check drainage flow at each changeover and did notice the same thing so the drains were rodded and all was flowing swiftly once more (thankfully!). Property Owner

  • "The very large double bed gave a good night's sleep."

We thought that the lounge seating was too large for the room, but this was a minor issue. All of the electrical equipment was of a high standard. The attractive décor was fresh and light. Looking out over bay, through a big picture window in the first floor lounge, probably gave the best view in Eyemouth! When we were there in August both the excellent fish and chip shop and the equally excellent Italian ice cream parlour both shut at about 7pm - so be warned! The Ship Inn is dog friendly and serves good food. The coastal walks, both north to St Abbs and south to Burnmouth, are visually stunning and easy underfoot and, if combined with the infrequent Borders bus service, can prevent the necessity of a return walk. Eyemouth's recycling facilities on the harbour front are limited and disorganised and a car trip to the recycling centre near the High School will probably be necessary. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our few days in 'General's Yard'. The high quality of fittings, proximity to the beach and local amenities such as an excellent bakery and a mini supermarket (Co-op) , a couple of pubs and the aforementioned coastal walks, make it an excellent base for a short stay.

The welcome pack was a lovely surprise. The picture window really gives it that WOW factor and we watched the trawlers go out in the afternoon and return next morning with their catch, the seals in the sea and the R N L I training in their D class and Shannon boats. The beach is clean and lovely to stroll along. Can recommend Giacopazzi's for fish and chips, Ice cream and their restaurant Oblo's. Also the Waterfront Cafe does great home cooked breakfast and lunch. Explored the coast line with the little villages. Enjoyed every minute of our holiday and hoping to return next year. Matthew and Nina you really have a property to be proud of.

We’d be absolutely delighted to welcome you back! It’s great to hear that you were able to spend some time exploring the surrounding areas - each of the coastal villages have their own charm and if you go in land at this time of year up into August the Lammermuirs become a wonderful patchwork of vibrant purple Heather and green as a contrast to the sea. BUT the technology was a definite downside. It took us two days to get the hob to work - it had been left on child lock. The tv was a nightmare - took us two sessions to get it going, by which time we had missed the programmes we wanted to watch. We only managed to get bbc1 a couple of times the whole week, it kept saying no signal. Other channels seemed ok ish One really, really does not want to spend half of the holiday reading instruction manuals. So, the first couple of days were pretty stressful. It would be an idea to tip off incomers about the child lock on the hob. But a beautiful area and a superb location. And so very comfortable, so thank you for that.

Thank you so much for your feedback and your kind comments concerning the bed and furnishings and the beauty of the location. Thank you also for pointing out the issue with the TV, which we also noted on as part of the changeover checks. This is the first time that this has happened and problem appears to lie with the external dish, which being right on the sea front is really exposed to wind and corrosion and in the light of your experience we are going to get a broadband-based TV system to avoid this in the future. Thank you also for alerting us to the child lock issue, it is the first time that this has been left on but we will now make sure that the hob has been checked for this issue before every stay. I know this won't change your experience with these elements but we are acting on your concerns right away and are grateful for your visit and helpful comments. Property Owner

On your last day you texted us to ask if we could extend your stay, so we are surprised to see such feedback left, and are very sorry to hear that you experienced a few issues whilst there. As soon as we were notified that you were unable to operate the TV, microwave and oven, we immediately provided instructions to you, with an invitation to call us if you needed further assistance. We did not hear back from you following our contact attempts, so we were unaware that you were having any continuing difficulties. On inspection, we found the Broadband was working normally. All bedlinen was freshly laundered and a full set of spare bedding was available as mentioned in the welcome pack. If you had let us know that you were likely to require more spare bedding we would, of course, have provided it. There is no garden or courtyard space, as is evident from the description and photographs on Sykes’ website, and the property opens immediately onto the seafront and beach. There is however a public seating area with benches and picnic tables opposite the front door. The property is also equipped with coat hooks and sufficient storage for both clothing and shoes. The house is newly built and complies with the latest regulations. There is a smoke/heat sensor in the cooking area as it is legally required. There is a signposted fire escape door in the utility room, which opens directly into our neighbour’s courtyard. Regarding drainage; there is also a separate, second shower and toilet, which means there is always a dry lavatory available if required, following someone else using the wetroom. Your feedback is appreciated and we will in future provide a spare mophead. We do our very best to ensure that our guests have everything they need to enjoy a relaxing and comfortable holiday and we will do our utmost to solve any difficulties we are made aware of during their stay.
