  • "It is a lovely cottage in an ideal location."

Welcome pack was very generous, the cottage was warm & cosy just a little tired in places but we would make a return visit.

  • "The Coach House is a very comfortable house and an ideal base to explore this beautiful area."

On the positive side, it was warm, comfortable and everything worked as it should. Overall, we felt at home there. However, the cleanliness (whilst acceptable) was not the deep clean as advised, and it felt in need of a refresh with regard to the decoration, carpets and general wear and tear - an inevitable result of its popularity. With a little TLC, It has the potential to be a really special place to stay.

We ate at The Black Bull a number of times which is just a short stroll away and the food was amazing! The Coach House is well equipped and has everything you need for a comfortable holiday, however, it is looking tired in places particularly the bathrooms and soft furnishings, also bed linen which in our opinion require replacing. Overall, we had a great holiday and would return to the area again.

The cottage was spotless, welcoming and very spacious. Every room was tastefully decorated and so comfortable. The garden was totally secure and our dog was completely safe. The location was very quiet with two pubs within walking distance along with a local grocery shop. So many surrounding places to visit, all within striking distance such as Bamburgh, Alnwick, Berwick and many others. If you are looking for a nice, quiet, peaceful and comfortable cottage for your holiday in a fab location, we would totally recommend The Coach House. • "Although the Coach House was spacious and well situated for a holiday in Northumberland, the cost was relatively high."

Compared with other properties we have stayed in at a similar price (Tigh Na Sith, Aultbea), the Coach house was slightly run down and could be much better with more basic maintenance - garden / courtyard shrubs cutting back, kitchen paintwork, cupboard door handles etc. We would be happy to stay again, but only at a more reasonable cost.

We didn't need anything while we were there, but felt as if we could have asked if we did. All in all a comfy, warm and welcoming place to stay.

This is quite an old building which has been done out in a very comfortable and cosy style. Once you get used to the heating and other systems you can just snuggle in. We found people very friendly in the area and the owners and staff in the Black Bull Hotel across the road were very welcoming (great food). We enjoyed days out at Bamburgh Castle, Holy Island, Wooler, Alnwick, Morpeth and North Shields. There was lots to do. Would consider staying here again. Thank you for your hospitality.

This proofed to be far from the truth. Hair on top of on-suite shower frame, cobwebs in main lounge, windows on patio doors not cleaned, dog hairs on and under most carpets, fridge not cleaned thoroughly etc etc. Taps in kitchen and downstairs bathroom that wouldn’t turn off fully. The property is in great need of a re decoration. Disappointed with the property in general terms.

We are sorry that you found the cottage not our to our usual very high standard as you will see from virtually all reviews over the past year. We have been away for a few weeks and we rely on our cleaners for efficient turnovers. • "The Coach House was perfect for our stay."

My elderly parents were perfectly accommodated in the downstairs bedroom with en-suite. The layout of the downstairs area was perfect for us as we could decide wether to sit and watch TV, play games at the table or sit reading or chatting in the sunny entrance hall ‘sun room’. We chuckled about getting my elderly father on a ladder to clear the few cobwebs from the very top of the stove-pipe in the double height living area .. he’d have given it a go ( and we’d then we’d probably be reviewing A&E ,too!). The upstairs rooms were spacious and light with fabulous views. The Juliette balcony doors didn’t open - so it was a little hot as we were blessed with superb weather. Lowick is perfectly placed for Northumberland’s tourist attractions, ccastles, and beaches - and the border of Scotland is easily reached (within 20mins) for more activity ideas. The garden was lovely and the patio is a sun trap. Plenty of off street parking for at leas three cars. All in all, a fabulous find!

We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay and and found the Coach House an ideal cottage for visiting this wonderful area. Yes it is major task to get to the top of the ceiling requiring extended ladders!! Also I am not sure why you were not able to open the Juliette balcony doors as they are accessible and we would have been more than happy to have sorted it. Property Owner

It was lovely and spacious for the two of us, with a great garden for our dog and to enjoy the swallows flying overhead. We enjoyed lots of trips within easy reach; Berwick, Edinburgh, Alnwick, Bamburgh and walked lots on the big, clean, quite empty beaches. The pub over the road was great for a drink and food. We were lucky enough with the weather to be able to sit outside several times. It was a fantastic week away. I just wish it hadn’t gone so fast!

Lovely area and the welcome hamper was well thought out of what guests may need. The log fire in the evenings made it really cosy. Only minor niggles, one was the ensuite bathroom downstairs, excellent shower, but would have preferred a solid door instead of a curtain from the room into the ensuite. The description of showers over the baths was not quite right in that they could not be used for showers as no curtains there and one had a sloping roof. Son-in-law 6' 2" would not fit in either! Didn't spoil anything and everyone loved downstairs shower. Would consider going back again.

The house was warm and welcoming and very comfortable, and we were amazed at the substantial welcome pack! The garden was perfect for our labrador - safe to let her mooch about on her own.The kitchen was pretty well equipped with everything we needed (though i admit we were more reheating rather than actually cooking) including a medium sized insulated cafetiere in which to brew some of the local Berwick roast coffee. Our host popped by a couple of times to check all was well and advised us on dog friendly beaches and eating out. Lowick is a great little village with two dog-friendly pubs and a well stocked shop with lovely fresh baked products, savouries and sweet. Very central and nowhere seemed very far away. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. The only word of warning would be that February is before a lot of the local attractions open eg Alnwick Castle, so if you plan to go somewhere specific, check opening dates! We had a perfect week of relaxation and pottering around the area, and this whole holiday suited our 3 generations of ladies (and Lilly the dog!) perfectly. Thank you.

  • "The accommodation had both pros and cons."

The pros. The beds were all very comfortable. The downstairs en-suite shower was spacious and powerful. The location was very handy for the local pubs and village shop. The kitchen was adequately provisioned and the welcome pack was very good and appreciated. The provision of wood for the wood burner was generous. The cons. The place did not do justice to its photographs. It was in truth rather shabby and tired. The place was in need of decorating. The curtains and blinds were quite scruffy and difficult to operate. A lot of the light bulbs had failed throughout the property. The cooker hob light and extractor fan were not working. The sink was badly discoloured and the worktops and kitchen unit fronts stained. For some reason the property had a lot of flies and the window sills had a lot of dead ones. On our first night the central heating boiler, WiFi router and a number of power sockets failed because of an electrical problem. This was sorted out by the owner who, although on holiday himself, got someone round quickly to sort out. The other issue with the electrics was a constant hum from the main ceiling light in the living room that was very off putting. Because the standard lamp in the living room also didn’t work the only light in the evening was from the spotlight in the kitchen and some very dull wall lights. The outside parking was adequate for 2 vehicles at a push but no way for the three advertised. Finally, we could find very few or any instructions regarding any of the appliances or white goods. For the money paid the property would have been worth it if it’s standard was as it appears in the photographs on your website and the issues outlined hadn’t been present. As it was we were disappointed and unlikely to rebook this particular property. This is a property in need of some TLC after which it would be excellent.

  • "As a regular user of Sykes cottages I have to say this is one of the best we have stayed in!"

The wifi connection was excellent thus making the grandchildren extremely happy. This cottage is of a high standard and the owners, although living next door, are extremely helpful but not intrusive. The extensive welcome pack was very much appreciated! This is an excellent base from which to explore North Northumberland and all the delights it has to offer. I am more than happy to recommend this property to others!!

Thank you so much for your lovely comments. We are so glad that you enjoyed the cottage and all that the area has to offer. We would be happy to welcome you back again in the future. Property Owner

  • "This was our second stay at the Coach House, this time for two weeks."

As before, we thoroughly enjoyed it. The cottage is very welcoming and comfortable and the 'goodies' on arrival were much appreciated. We had a couple of minor issues as we lost wi-fi for a few days and the 'phone did not work but these did not affect our lovely relaxed stay. The owners from next door were very friendly and helpful. What is also nice about the cottage is that it is in a friendly village with two good pubs and a nice friendly shop. The cottage could probably do with a bigger screen television but not a major issue. We look forward to returning.

  • "Cottage was very nice and welcome pack was one of the best we have encountered."

The owner was very nice. What was very important to us at time of booking was a peaceful location and secluded garden to enjoy. Following an earlier review from one of your customers about undisclosed building works going on Sykes sent an email warning that there were some building works going on and to contact them if I had concerns. I did have concerns about any building works and was considering cancelling the booking. I contacted Sykes and they said they would find out more about what the building works were and they would get back to me. They didn't !. I therefore contacted them and they said they had checked with the owner and that the building works were minimal and down the road. On arrival at the property we found that a large house was being built right next to the cottage boundary with extensive scaffolding and works being carried out at the gable end overlooking the cottages garden which meant the builders could look straight down into the garden of the cottage with no privacy. The builders commenced work at 8 am during the weekdays with associated machinery noise. It was far from the peaceful holiday we had been seeking and most disappointed as we felt as we had been misled and we would have certainly have cancelled the booking if we had known how near the building work was to the cottage and lack of privacy.

Thank you for your feedback and I am sorry that the building work caused more disruption than expected. I can see that you were given the opportunity to cancel prior to your stay and we did tell you all we knew at the time when we spoke to you. As we then did not hear from you until 2 days after your stay, we were unable to help during your stay. I am glad that you still enjoyed your stay otherwise and am sorry for any inconvenience caused. • "The holiday cottage has a lovely big garden perfect for the dog to exercise and is situated in a quiet village with a few local good pubs."

It is pretty central to many attractions we travelled on average 30 minutes to get to places we wanted to visit. The cottage itself is a nice cottage but is a little dated and although the bed linen and bathrooms were clean the general cleanliness was a little poor, e.g. rugs and sofas etc need a good clean. Also the cleaner was outside waiting for us to leave even though we hadn't exceeded our time limit and we thought this was a little unnecessary. We've been going on holiday two to three times a year for 5 years with Sykes and have been generally really happy with the cottages we've stayed in but we will not be recommending or returning to this one.

Many thanks for your feedback. We have tried to contact you without success to discuss your comments. The feedback on this property is always of a very high standard and therefore we are keen to discuss your comments with you. Property Owner

  • "The property was excellent in every way, and very comfortable."

Even the 'reception pack' that was on the dining-table when we arrived was the best we have ever had. We met the owner, Russell Want, on a number of occasions as he lives next door and was very helpful. One criticism we have is the poor WiFi coverage throughout the property. It was excellent if you were close to the fireplace in the living-room, but it was virtually non-existent anywhere else. We tried to find the router out of curiosity, but were not successful. We suspect the WiFi signal was coming from next door, but cannot be sure. In today's obsession with smart phones and iPads, we think they must be able to get WiFi coverage anywhere within the property.

  • "Beautiful excellent accommodation in a wonderful location."

Easy access to lots of local attractions but quiet and secluded. Village pub and shop provided ample options without having to venture far from base but close to Berwick for food shops etc. Lovely welcome package and friendly and helpful but unintrusive owner enhanced the stay. Everything in the cottage was clean, comfortable and in good order. We would willingly return and would certainly recommend to friends wanting to visit the area.

Well equiped house. Toasty warm despite bad weather. Perfect for 5 of us plus dog. My elderly father in law had downstairs bedroom with en suite. I must apologise to them for breaking chopping board. I had insurance. Please let me know if they want to take it further.
