The historic village of Norham is most famous for its splendid Norman Castle ruins overlooking the River Tweed, painted by Turner in 1845. The village has an excellent butcher and bakery, a Post Office, grocer, newsagent and two pubs. Also nearby in the village of Allanton is a great restaurant, suitable for fishing and shooting parties as well as the Cross Inn at Paxton. Berwick-upon-Tweed is just 7 miles away, at the northern tip of Northumberland’s beautiful Heritage Coast, boasting many restaurants, cafes, pubs and a nearby links golf course. The Scottish capital of Edinburgh or the city of Newcastle are easily accessed by train from Berwick. A superb base for exploring all North Northumberland has to offer.
