  • "A well maintained site by caring and helpful site management."

Plenty to see and do in the area. A trip to the honey farm is worth it just to see the fully refurbished chain bridge.

  • "Blacadder Lodge was perfect, everything we could ask for or need in a holiday home."

The garden was perfect for our dog he loved it plenty of squirrels and visiting deer to sniff out and the views over the countryside were panoramic. It was our first visit to the Borders there were plenty of places of interest to visit even in October school holidays. We would recommend using Sat Nav for travelling about roads, are tricky. Blackadder Lodge is a beautifully presented holiday home, clean, comfy and cosy we'd highly recommend it.

  • "A lovely peaceful holiday."

We loved the lodge & surrounding area. The garden was enclosed, so my dog could run around freely. Had deer in front of the lodge everyday. Beautiful! The only negative was the mattress. It was so uncomfortable, we even flipped it over to see if it would be better. I’m sure this is easily rectified by owner, so would have no hesitation in booking again.

  • "The most dog-friendly property we have ever stayed in."

Fantastic place. Great big garden for the dogs. Very peaceful location. Everything you need in the property and the fittings were all very clean and high spec.. Berwick is just 10 minutes away so you can stock up on everything you need there. Wish we could have stayed for two weeks. Will definitely re-book if we are in the area again. The only slightly odd thing was that there was no local number for a contact and the instruction was to call Sykes directly - which felt a bit distant. We didn't need to call, though, so it wasn't an issue.

  • "A lovely lodge."

View was excellent. Dogs loves the large garden and we had no worries about them being out and wandering around. As we had rain on a few days we thought some sort of non-slip area on the decking between/on the steps and the sliding door would be good(even the window cleaner was sliding about). It was slippery and a walk round to the side gate to get in the garden to clear up poop was often a wet one. We did have a bit of trouble understanding the Roku TV as it's not something we were used to. We didn't have a sheet with contact details such as doctor, hospital or vet, although our friends in Whiteadder did. All in all a lovely holiday. Thank you.

Outstanding views from the properties and excellent garden for the dogs. We booked both properties so we could spend time with family. I would highly recommend this property to anyone who wants to get away from he busy lives we all have and to be able to relax. We booked both cabins for next August with family before we left site, everything is amazing.

  • "We had such a lovely stay at Blackadder Lodge."

We didn’t expect the property to be as good as it was. There were 6 of us (including two small children) and the lodge was the perfect size. There was plenty of room and lots of utensils, glasses, plates etc. The location was beautiful and peaceful and we felt safe with our dog in the fenced off garden area. It was a 20 minute drive to the beach and we even got the train to Edinburgh in 35 minutes from Reston station which was a 10 minute drive away. I would highly recommend this property.

  • "Overall an excellent stay, unfortunately cut short by the weather."

Lovely peaceful setting, loved seeing the deer in the adjacent fields. Kitchen very well equipped. Lounge relaxing, a lamp in the bay window area would enhance the cosy feeling in the evening. Beds comfortable (a king size bed would be better in the master and zip and link in the other bedrooms to give superking options) pillows were very hard. Handles on the bath and in shower cubicle would be helpful. Rubber bath/shower mats need replacing. Both the toilets were extremely low which could be an issue for some guests. The property would benefit from a bit of external maintenance next year, the timber cladding and verandah just looked a little tired and needs treating.

  • "Blackadder is a delightful, spacious property in a beautiful setting."

Very high standard of furnishings, appliances and kitchen equipment with ample wardrobe and drawer space in bedrooms. Only minor criticisms are that the toilets are very low and as this is a single story property it is suitable for the elderly and those with mobility difficulties. Grab rails would also be useful in the walk in shower. There was a lack of cleaning products other than washing up liquid and a long handled brush and dust pan would be useful for those of us who have difficulty bending down!

  • "We loved our week at Blackadder Lodge."

As things turned out, it was the best possible choice for our June holiday, Our car broke a spring during our outward journey, so we were 5 days without transport, meaning that we had to find things to do from the doorstep. It couldn't have been better. There were two listed walks, so we tried them, and greatly enjoyed them, The Whiteadder walk could be extended to Hutton, and on to Paxton, where we had lunch at an excellent dog-friendly pub, The Cross. Beyond Paxton, was Paxton House, easily within reach, so we went there too - dog-friendly gardens and tea-shop. The Blackadder Walk ended at the Allenton Arms - we had an absolutely delicious lunch in the garden. We also walked to Chirnside - making a detour off the Whiteadder Walk - and stocked up with a few extra provisions. The garden was big and sunny, but with shade too, for the hot afternoons when we weren't walking - just had to watch our lurcher, though, because deer regularly visited the garden, and chasing deer is our dog's favourite occupation. As an additional note, we have very comfortable beds at home, but the double bed at Blackadder Lodge was something else. You must try it! Oh, we played Scrabble and I beat my husband for the first time in 52 years.

We will defo try and re book. The only negative feedback we have was the check in time was really late at 4.30pm and check out at 9.30am was really early. If they were adjusted slightly then the stay would have been perfect. We were there with young baby which added few challenges at those time. x

The property was spacious and comfortable with a large grassed garden area. It was also very clean and had most items we needed though some extra cutlery and crockery would have been helpful, as we ran out when the dishwasher was running! We could not find the WiFi details as the information folder was in the bottom of a drawer, so having that next to the much appreciated welcome box of goodies would be a suggestion! Overall a great stay thank you.

Very happy overall with the property. It’s not luxurious but it’s comfortable and fine for 2-4 people. Bathrooms and kitchen are good enough, Wi-Fi is a surprise bonus. I liked the lack of rules and common sense approach. Some places are over-fussy on how to clean up and have a holiday. We did like it and would be happy to return.

So clean and comfortable and pretty surroundings roads lined with daffodils. Lots of lovely places to visit - Dunbar and North Berwick. The only minor criticism was the "intermittent" internet was actually non existent. But no problem because we had brought our EE dongle and kept that topped up.

So glad you enjoyed your stay. A very special time of year with the daffodils. Before that we had the snowdrops and now it’s the bluebells and wild garlic. We are in the process of having new internet put into the property in the next month and this will be a high speed . I’m glad your dongle worked for you and this is why we mention the poor internet on the website. Thank you for taking the time to write some feedback. Property Owner

About the location

CHIRNSIDE

Duns 6 miles; Berwick-upon-Tweed 9 miles.

The village of Chirnside occupies an elevated position overlooking the River Whiteadder and offers stunning views across the magnificent Cheviot and Lammermuir Hills. A number of interesting landmarks depict the village's long history, including a 16th Century dovecot and a beautiful parish church, believed to date back to the 12th Century. Each summer, the Jim Clark Rally, the only 'closed roads' race on mainland Britain, takes place in and around the Borders as a memorial to the village’s home born champion. Just 9 miles away lies the charming, coastal town of Berwick, boasting quaint, narrow streets enclosed within Elizabethan walls, excellent shopping and dining facilities and an interesting arts centre. The local area affords fantastic fishing, golf, walking and riding opportunities and the nearby resorts of Eyemouth, Coldingham and Spittal offer soft, sandy beaches, ideal for a relaxing afternoon. A brilliant location for exploring historic Edinburgh, the stunning Northumberland coastline, and the attractions of Holy Island, Paxton House, Manderson, Bamburgh and Alnwick Castle. Chirnside is a great holiday location all year round.
