  • "What an outstanding location - right across from the Castle Gardens - and the rest of the town well within easy walking distance."

Cottage itself has a secure garden - essential for the dogs (or errant children). Equipped with everything we needed and warm & cosy. Only one criticism - the front door window needs a blind or curtains for both privacy and to stop the street light from across the road shining directly into the main bedroom if you sleep with the door open. That said, a black bin bag and some tape - situation solved. I would recommend, especially for dog owners - you can't take them into the castle gardens - but you can use the 'huge' car park next door and the fields just down the road!

The good-sized kitchen is a delight to spend time in with all the facilities needed to produce high quality food for the holiday party, so no-one will go hungry when they stay at The Lodge!

Nearby coastal towns worth visiting include Alnmouth, Seahouses, Warkworth and Beadnell with trips to Farne Islands popular where you can look out for unusual birds and even seals.

Other attractions include Dunstanburgh Castle, Northumberland Country Zoo and Bailiffgate Museum and Gallery.

ALNWICK

Alnmouth 4 miles; Bamburgh 15 miles; Rothbury 10 miles.

The attractive and historic market town of Alnwick is dominated by Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland. The Castle Gardens, opened in 2002, are home to Europe's largest cascading water feature, a fabulous (and enormous) treehouse, a delightful rose garden and a beautiful, walled ornamental garden, which will delight novice and experienced gardeners alike. The castle is also famous as the setting for Hogwarts School featured in the Harry Potter films! The town's narrow streets have seen little change since the days when the London to Edinburgh stage coach passed through and the Market Place, with its stone cross, is still the central feature and the ideal venue for the weekly Saturday market. Alnwick offers a good selection of shops, pubs and places to eat and there is plenty to see and do, with miles of golden sandy beaches, numerous castles and boat trips to the famous Farne Islands all available nearby. Altogether a superb location for exploring Northumberland and its stunning Heritage Coastline.
