  • "This was our second stay at Begonia Cottage, and it didn’t disappoint ."

We had a really lovely comfortable stay. Such a beautiful part of the world.

Dear Mrs Robinson. Thank you for taking the time to give such a positive review - much appreciated. Alnmouth is a lovely place and it’s good to hear that you enjoyed your stay. Kind regards. Property Owner

  • "Lovely property in a fab spot."

Parking may be a problem in busy season but we managed ok with obliging neighbours for unloading & reloading our vehicle due to the quaint, narrow cobbled street. Felt very much a home from home but so near to the sea!

Dear Mrs Coats. Many thanks for taking the time to write such a lovely review - we really appreciate your feedback. Parking can be a problem but very glad that our lovely neighbours were so helpful and that you and your guests got organised and enjoyed your stay in a beautiful place by the sea. Best wishes from the owners. Property Owner

  • "This was a superb cottage."

We have stayed many times in Alnmouth as my parents lived nearby and this is one of the best cottages. It was well appointed, clean and much attention had been given to detail. Loved all the blinds, curtains, artwork and the torches in the bedroom. And it was warm! Problem with the hoover, wasn't working properly - suspect due to needing a new bag. But parking was a major issue. We parked in Prospect Place for the first couple of nights as it was incredily difficult to get a parking slot elsewhere. Once the weekend was over, it was better. But this is a deterrant. Whilst appreciating that Alnmouth has become more popular, this really needs to be sorted. There has been a significant deterioration in the last few years. And finally, the Post Office is wonderful. Great staff and excellent fresh produce at reasonable prices.

Dear Mrs Collin Many thanks for your kind comments and we are glad that you had an enjoyable stay in Alnmouth. Regards the Hoover - it has taken some battering recently and has been replaced. As you have noted, parking is not always easy and reflects the popularity of the village. Sadly this is out of our control but Begonia house does have parking for one car outside the door which we note you found useful. We will pass your compliments on to the staff at the post office. • "Quirky, roomy and comfortable cottage, we had an enjoyable break."

Great location close to the beach and the village, some great walks straight from the doorstep, the corner shop is very handy for the essentials. Enjoyed the cosy open fire place with fuel provided, some good books, jigsaws and the TV/Wifi package kept us entertained on the rainy days. Bring your ninja parking skills if you plan to reverse park outside the cottage, achievable but a challenge. Marking lower for cleanliness as the windows were dirty on arrival to the point that we thought an opaque film had been used on the windows, they just needed a good clean. We found this odd as only two window panes with the best view of the sea had been cleaned in the bay window, all the other windows in the house were dirty. Disappointing as the big selling point for choosing this property was for the Seaview. Reported first thing Monday morning and windows cleaned Tuesday so quickly resolved.

Thank you your feedback, we’re glad that you enjoyed your stay at Begonia House. We spoke with the window cleaner. In fact, the windows weren’t dirty - it was a fine deposit due to salt sea spray from Storm Babet that had finished a few days previously. I’m glad that we were able to resolve that so quickly for you and hope that enhanced your stay. The owners. Property Owner

  • "Begonia House is a comfortable, spacious holiday cottage with lovely sea views."

However the doors for both the top floor WC and en-suite shower room stick, making exiting difficult. Ground floor bathroom door doesn’t close at all, making privacy impossible. There needs to be a clear warning about the fierceness of the ground floor shower, also. We would have appreciated knowing about parking difficulties beforehand. Online photos suggest there’s parking outside the property but this isn’t possible due to the very narrow private road, and residents cars and plant pots. Even loading/unloading is extremely difficult. A note in the house suggested on street parking in Alnmouth by guests would be preferred, but in reality availability is very limited. Advance notice of this should be given. Whilst overall the house is very clean, we did find on arrival dog hair all over the ground floor beds, including on pillows and sheets, and a maggot stuck to a coffee cup in the kitchen cupboard. Finally, whilst we were a few minutes late leaving as we needed to carry luggage to a parking space some distance away, the cleaner with their family and children arrived at 10am wanting access to the property. This made our exit feel stressful & rushed.

11.10.23 Thank you for taking the time to give your considered feedback. We’re really sorry that you encountered the problems that you detailed and we’d like to address them individually: 1) We were unaware that there was any problem with the doors. Now that you have informed us, through feedback, we have contacted the letting agents (Sykes) and their maintenance team are attending to that. On that note, if you had contacted them as soon as you were aware, during your stay, they would have offered to correct this for you. 2) We were unaware that the downstairs shower was “fierce” and will check this when the current guests leave this weekend and rectify as soon as possible. 3) With respect to parking outside the property, it should be noted that the lane is a private lane with space for one car. The lane is narrow but is navigable in an average-sized car. The letting agent will alter the information on this following your feedback. 4) The presence of dog hairs on the bedding in the ground floor bedroom and the dirty cup (maggot). We agree that this is completely unacceptable. This has been referred to the cleaning team. This is the first time in 10 years that a cleaning complaint like this has been noted so, again we sincerely apologise. It would have been very useful, and to your benefit, if this was reported to Sykes as soon as you noted the problem, so that further cleaning could have taken place. 5) The cleaning team are directed to enter the property at 10am on the day of guest departures in accordance with the terms of the holiday let. We are sorry you found their arrival “stressful” but we hope you understand that the turnaround time for cleaning and preparing the property for the next guests is very limited. Despite your difficulties we do hope that you enjoyed your stay in Alnmouth and found other aspects of the house (including the substantial welcome pack) to your satisfaction. • "We stayed for 3 weeks in the summer and had a great trip."

The property is well located and great being walking distance to the beach. The listing is an accurate representation of the property. It is well appointed with everything we needed. Parking is challenging as the street is very narrow and you are encouraged to not park directly outside the property. The internet was intermittent and we couldn't get the dryer to work on the washing machine.
