  • "Great place to stay."

Downstairs very comfortable and kitchen very well equipped. Bathrooms in need of upgrade. Shower very small and bathroom design poor. Windows unable to be opened is not good both from fire exit point and also we like to sleep with window open. Laminate flooring in bedroom should be carpet? Central heating problem resolved quickly. Thank you.

Thank you for the feedback - it is always useful to have guests’ suggestions for improvement. We totally agree with your comments on the bathrooms and we have scheduled for both of them to be fully updated in January2025. We will check the window issue - thank you for raising that - and we are very glad the maintenance team were able to sort out the boiler problem quickly. Property Owner

Always immaculate and contains everything needed for a perfect stay.

We are delighted you enjoyed your week and found everything you needed for a comfortable holiday. Thank you for staying with us and letting us have your feedback - it sounds like you enjoy Fairhaven as much as we do and that is lovely to know!! Property Owner

  • "We enjoyed a lovely holiday with children and grandchildren."

The house was very comfortable, clean and well equipped; the only thing I would say is to echo what previous holiday makers have said about the shower, which was a bit of a squeeze for the larger members of our group! We had such a fabulous time that we’d love to come again.

Thank you for that feedback and we have good news for you! We have full renovations scheduled for the bathroom and the shower room. This has been our absolute priority for improvement as we agree exactly with what you have said. Guests staying at Fairhaven after January 2025 will be able to enjoy a much more generously proportioned walk in shower, and the bathroom will have a larger double ended bath perfect for bathing the kids with ease or shutting the door and enjoying a luxurious peaceful soak!! We hope these upgrades will improve the showering and bathing amenities for all our valued guests, and we do hope you come and give them a try! Property Owner

  • "A number of things made staying here with young children less than ideal: outside space gravelled and overfull of furniture so was not suitable for outside play; beds made up as singles did not have single duvets - doubled over king size completely unsuitable for small children(luckily weather was warm and they slept under just the duvet covers); mat placed under the dining table made clearing up after messy eaters less easy, and the only hoover was very heavy to move around; the bathrooms both had locks which could not be opened from the outside - not at all ideal for young ones wanting privacy and then wanting help."

We also found the rug in the main room shed so much fluff we had to hoover there daily too. The chill drawer of the fridge froze our salad items, and the dishwasher lower drawer constantly slipped off the rollers. However the house as a whole is spacious and well equipped, and the parking permits allowed us always to park in the street, a real bonus in this busy village

Thank you so much for taking the time to let us know of the issues you encountered. This detailed information provides us the opportunity to better review and reconsider the amenities we provide, so we are truly grateful to see this. We appreciate that holidaying with small children in an unfamiliar place can indeed be very challenging and your points will help us to see what can be done to make this a little easier for future visitors. Yes indeed we agree that the parking permits are a blessing in the busy summer months - it is great to know you found them useful - we will continue to have them renewed. Property Owner

  • "A well equipped property ."

Nicely furnished A big bathroom , it’s a shame a larger shower wasn’t in there. The shower in the property is rather small. Two problems we had . The outer front door inside handle came off in our hands ( it didn’t appear to be the first time this had happened. This needs attention.). The door into the kitchen , the handle on this is very hard to open as it’s too near to the wall, you can’t grip it properly. Everyone with us nipped their hands on it . A different type of handle with an arm would be better. A lovely area to visit .

Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback and we hope you enjoyed your stay despite these issues. We agree that the bathrooms are due an update and we have renovations booked for the bathrooms for early 2025. We have tried to be as transparent as we can as to their current set up by way of photos and descriptions. The front door handle has now been fixed - many thanks for informing us. We take your point on the kitchen door - we've got used to it as a quirk of an old house so it is very useful to have your feedback on it - thanks again! Property Owner

  • "The house was great and met all our needs."

Plenty of kitchen equipment and overall, very comfortable. Couple of things that need looking at though. The bottom tray of the dishwasher doesn't work as it should which means the bottom tray sits on the rotary arm preventing it from spinning. Secondly- the hoover needs upgrading and bag emptying. One thing about Sykes holiday cottages. I wanted to get in touch with them re: cleanliness of front door and back door step but couldn't. I followed the on line process but was unable to complete complaint. You need to clear weeds and remove litter from under back door step- a haven for rats and very unpleasant for when sitting outside.

Thank you so much for sharing this information - we are getting on to all these issues straight away. I do hope that these matters did not impact your stay too much and that you enjoyed our beautiful village. Property Owner

only one shower- small BUT everyone used daily and always hot and powerful. Kitchen very well appointed didn't want for anything. Perfect position for all amenities and beach. plenty of parking we had 5 cars in our party. 2 permits but plenty of off street parking.

Thank you for the feedback - we are so happy you had a comfortable stay with everything that you needed. Sounds like you enjoyed the house as much as we do which is lovely!!! Property Owner

  • "A really well-equipped and spacious house superbly located in this charming coastal village."

However, for a house this size, a single (and small) shower is not adequate, Moreover, it leaked through the floor below and was blocked when we arrived. Would benefit from hand soap in bathrooms (mentioned in previous reviews), an explanation on how the central heating works (I had to google the control unit), clearer bin putting out instructions (alleyway?) and a glass recycling point in Alnmouth. A huge plus was the responsiveness of the NCCC/Sykes staff who quickly turned up to provide the high chair that we'd requested (but wasn't there on arrival) and sort out the shower.

Thank you for your feedback and firstly we are really glad to see that you had a good holiday. We are in absolute agreement with you on the shower and are looking at how we remodel the bathrooms. Fairhaven is popular and often heavily booked so getting a time slot to get a remodel done on the bathrooms is challenging and something that we are planning for next year. In the last two weeks we have experienced this particular issue with the shower and the property has been closed to complete this essential maintenance – we’re very sorry you experienced this problem while you were visiting and very glad NCCC was able to assist you. Thank you for the hand soap suggestion - we have now arranged for that to be provided in both bathrooms and the kitchen. During the summer we had amended the instructions for the bins but clearly this isn’t working so I have asked NCCC to revisit this and ensure it is clearer. The NCCC team have also since added the heating instructions to the information pack. Glass disposal is something we are reliant on the council for however we are also investigating how to provide more convenience for guests. We are so grateful for your constructive feedback so that we can take action, thus assisting future visitors. Property Owner

  • "Lovely property excellent location close to the beach ."

Very comfortable bedrooms .Extremely well equipped kitchen Lots of stairs in the property worth bearing in mind if you’re not very mobile . Two parking permits provided got on street parking which was never an issue even though we were there over half term holidays . We had a couple of minor plumbing issues which were very promptly sorted out . Would recommend for a familiar holiday

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback, we’re so pleased you had a good time and found the bedrooms comfortable – that makes all the difference when you want to have a good rest away from home. NCCC have sorted out the plumbing issues and we thank you for your patience on those. We are really grateful that you raised it with them so that they could be rectified. Property Owner

Northumbria Coast and Cottages staff were extremely pleasant and helpful, turning up promptly when some attention was required in the house. We were disappointed that the owners appeared to be unable to be contacted to sanction a change of date, even though one of our party was taken seriously ill before our holiday began. We would certainly book with Northumbria Coast and Cottages again, though - they did everything possible to help us and facilitate our stay. Thank you.

  • "Generally this property suited us very well."

On 3 storeys with several stairs, might not suit those with mobility issues. Very well equipped for the number of people staying (we were 6). Very warm and comfortable. On street parking not a problem with permits supplied. Providing hand wash and/or soap would be expected in a property of this standard. Alnmouth is a lovely small town located beside a golf course and beautiful sandy beach with several excellent restaurants and shops.

We are so happy you enjoyed the house and the village. Thank you for your great suggestion - we will now be providing hand soap in both bathrooms and the kitchen. Property Owner

  • "In general the accommodation was fine."

However, two bathrooms next to each on a mezzanine floor between ground and first was insufficient and inconvenient. Only one very small shower cubicle for 9 people was a struggle. It would be a simple task to add another shower/bathroom on the top floor. We also struggled for cupboard space in the kitchen for the food we had brought. Every cupboard was full of equipment.

  • "The only problem was parking, There was no car pass for restricted area outside house."

There was also no marked refuge bins for the house outside and it was a lottery if we got he correct one? Having to drive 5 miles to get rid of glass bottles was not good there should be a place for this at the house as remember people are on holiday and this should be addressed by the host.

Thank you for taking the time to feedback. We’re glad to see that you had a good time, but we are really sorry to see that you experienced a couple of issues. Unfortunately we did have problem with some parking permits going missing and whilst they are now available at Fairhaven we are sorry that you weren’t able to park outside the property during your stay. Based on your feedback we have now highlighted which bins belongs to Fairhaven to avoid future confusion and we are working on a glass recycling option. Property Owner
