  • "We loved this cottage!"

Yes, it’s a little battered around the edges, but it was very comfortable with everything you could possibly need for an affordable seaside break. We enjoyed the free view tv on the dark evenings and made use of the games in the cupboard. I did bring a novel home with me but will leave one next time! It was wonderful to have everything provided for the wood burner but the weather was so fabulous during half term that we didn’t need to light it. A washing machine instead of the downstairs toilet would’ve been useful, and (as mentioned before in the reviews) do something about the upstairs bathroom door! But these are minor things and certainly didn’t affect our stay. We were mum, grandma and two under 12s. Alnmouth is delightful and we have been many times but the first time to Percy Cottage. We will certainly be back to this cottage

Cupboard door only on one hinge! A mention in the details as to whether logs are available for the stove we were lucky enough to bring some with us and discover they are available at the lovely shop/post office. Altogether a lovely stay

  • "Carpet in front room had a few marks on it and could do with a clean, otherwise the room was fine."

Kitchen really needs to be updated, cupboards are old fashioned especially pantry. The floor is uneven and needs to be fixed. Handle missing on door leading to back door and therefore could not be closed to stop draughts. Bedrooms were adequate but they could do with modernising as they looked a bit tired. Door into bathroom needs to be sorted out as it doesn't open properly and as its a small doorframe makes it hard to access the bathroom (this was mentioned in comment around June 2023). Also shower frame does not seal correctly. Overall the house was adequate but I feel it just needs a little bit tlc, if that was done it would be an excellent house.

  • "Ideal location for exploring Northumberland or making a base for visiting the number of golf courses in the area."

We were notified that we could check in early if we wished which was a bonus. It may be difficult to get a parking space by the property but there are options within 5 minutes walk. The key drop box is easy to use. The kitchen facilities were adequate and there are some previous guest "leftovers" in the cupboards, including pet treats. On that topic, if you have dog allergies it may not be the property for you. There is one bedroom with a double bed, another bedroom with a single bed and a final bedroom with two single beds. The mattresses are very soft, as were the towels provided. Overall this cottage is a good place to stay in the area, with great scenery around. Alnwick is not far for visiting a supermarket if required.

  • "This is without a doubt the best place we have stayed in Alnmouth."

We come every summer and winter 4 years in a row now and each time we have, we have not been 100% happy with the house we chose so have stayed somewhere different each time. This is the first ive wanted to return to. The house is on the main street in the village and is a gorgeous place. It is literally a minute walk to the estuary and beach, not evebn a minute to the local shops and pubs and restaurants. The house itself is bigger than i expected. All rooms are big and all furniture is very comfortable. This house was the only one we've stayed in that we haven't cleaned to some extent on arrival. It had a lovely welcome pack with tea coffee sugar milk and cookies, with washing up liquid, bin liners, hands wash and tea towel. We have stayed in previous that didn't even provide toilet roll, this one obviously did. There was a cupboard full of dog food and treats which was lovely, a cupboard in the living room full of games, some binoculars, life jackets, plenty towels and even extra blankets. It had a large array of kitchen utensils and cutlery and crockery and trays pans etc, everything you needed with still lots of place left for cooking space and food storage. (the pantry cupboard looked very tired and dirty but i think it was just the paint wearing etc so we didnt use that). The garden said it was not a secure garden, but in my opinion it is. It is a good size for a small cottage and had lovely big table and chairs with cover. The bins were easy to access too. There was also a small 2 seater table and chairs the little metal ones which was cute but with paint chipping and a lot of rust we didnt use as they didnt look comfortable or usable but the big table made up for that and we sat out there every day and night. The garden is surrounded by a 6ft fence and wall on all sides so i would say secure, its just that it had a small gate on each side as this provided access to other cottages to get to their gardens through ours. This was not a problem to us as it wasnt overused by neighbours at all, i think only twice did a neighbour cone through but they were always polite and respectful and careful of our dog. We did have builders come through a lot doing work on the next door which meant theyj came through a LOT on the one day and a couple trimes on another day but again they were very respectful and careful not to let our dog out and they fussed the dog which she loved so it didnt bother us, and obviously we were outside with the dog each time so we didnt worry. I would consider it secure, just shared access, but obviously if youre outside with the kids/dogs at all times then its not an issue and it is not used much by neighbours in our experience, just by those builders but i know that wont be a regular occurrence so didnt bother us one bit. I would of loved a washer and dryer, and I'd of loved a tv upstairs even just the main bedroom zbut these are things we havent had in anyt other cottage either so didnt expect and managed fine without. There is a step down into the kitchen and a step down into the one bedroom and the bathroom upstairs, but the step is no bigger than the normal steps on stairs. The bathroom is the only one i will point out, as the door is very narrow too and doesnt open fully wide with the bath behind, so for somebody unsteady i could see it being a very slight problem getting in or out the bathroom bathrooms without help, however, i cant see it being a problem for anyone who could make it upstairs in the first place. The only things i would change if it were my cottage, is id have wooden floor throughout as its a cottage that welcomes kids and dogs who can be messy and with it being right by the beach would remove the issue of sand in carpets or muddy feet/paws. Id have a washer and dryer or even just the washer, and id have a tv upstairs. Id have a larger doorway to bathroom or remove the glass of the bath screen and have a shower curtain so the door could open wider, and id have a path for the garden built across thhe back along the wall, fenced in separate to the garden space so that people passed behind rather than through, but these are tiny unnecessary things tbh, just things i think would make it 100 out of 100 rather than 99 haha. Like i said, its amazing place, absolutely stunning, we loved it and are hoping to return but cant find booking now until 2026 which is extremely unfortunate as it means I'll have to book another, and to be honest i cant imagine another as perfect as this from my experience so far.

The cottage is comfortable and characterful with a great games cupboard. Our evenings were spent playing carpet bowls til late, a game from my childhood introduced to a new generation! And they beat me! Not lots of appliances but enough and the simplicity was also part of the appeal. Thank you for a lovely break and hope to revisit sometime. Lots to do in the area and worked for a holiday with 3 generations. Thank you.

  • "Cottage overall was comfortable and we enjoyed our stay."

2 of the people staying were in their 80s which made the narrow door and step into bathroom a bit hazardous. Lack of dishwasher a disappointment especially as the cleaning pack contained DW tablets and only a miniscule container of Washing up liquid. Garden furniture in back yard was inaccessible as bins and a plastic covered pile of wooden garden furniture took precedence.

  • "Spotlessly clean & very comfortable."

Such spacious rooms & very warm. Probally the best cottage we have used. From the kitchen window we just watched all the swallows, blue tits, sparrows blackbirds & many more at a distance of 12 feet, each mid afternoon in the court yard so enjoyable. Regrettably the TV could not receive/show any Freeview contant as the external TV aerial is broken & hanging loosly over the rear court yard, we also suggest the additition of a few shelves over the wc in the bathroom for our toileteries etc. The small window shelf cannot hold any such items to my cost!!! We will be staying here again later this year, hopefully the said items can be corrected in time.

  • "Great location, easy access to the beach and all amenities but first appearances do count."

Having to shoulder charge the front door to get in was not a good start only to find a dirty damp carpet inside the front door and hallway. The facilities at the cottage were as listed and usable just tired especially the kitchen. The lights in the downstairs rear hallway including the loo were not working. The alleged underfloor heating was not working in the same area. The door to the rear hallway had a handle missing so could not be closed. A supplementary free standing electrical heater in the living room was not working. None of the electrical devices had PAT certificates. The weed killer stored amongst the glasses and mugs was unexpected and soon remedied. The outside yard was not a usable space without a good tidy/clean up. It appeared just neglected. Our stay was only for two nights which was enough for the overall condition of the cottage. It could have been so much better with some TLC.

Shower screen poor ( not sealed against bath)

We were confused and surprised by this comment . We arrived on Saturday to oversee the fitting of a new cooker as well as checking over the cottage for the upcoming season. We found everything clean and in order. Try as we might we’ve been unable to find a trace of mould in any of the cupboards or even evidence of the removal of mould. If you have any relevant photos please would you forward them as obviously we find such a situation unacceptable. Property Owner

It was basic and a bit dated/worn out in terms of decor and kitchen amenities but this didn’t stop us having a lovely stay and reminded us of how homes used to be like. I was glad we had our Christmas Day lunch booked locally as the kitchen would not have had the capacity to cook anything more than basic cooking. The cooker could do with a professional clean.

Kitchen utensils could do with an upgrade, eg the rusty grater, but overall very clean, spacious, and well situated. • "We arrived late on the Saturday with a full shop, to find that the main cooker was broken and replaced with a small counter top oven ."

Despite constant chasing it took until late Tuesday to fix the cooker. The replacement counter top oven was far from adequate, given we are a family of five. We were not informed of the problem with the cooker prior to arrival so we're not able to make any arrangements for food. It also meant we had to eat out which was expensive and we had to give away food that we had bought beforehand but we're not able to cook. To advise us of the issue before our arrival would have been respectful and appreciated Whilst the upstairs bedrooms were fine, downstairs was less suitable for a family of five. The table was not suitable for 5 people as one person was seated almost under the stairs, and another up against the wall. Whstlt the property was clean, it really needs some updating. There is a lack of any storage for food in the kitchen and the cupboards are old and a little grubby Whilst in a central position in Alnmouth, the details did not make it clear that it was on the main street which can be very busy at times. It is a real shame as it could be a lovely property with a bit of care and updating.

Parking is first come first served which we already knew about. If we decided to visit other parts of the Northumbria coast we would ensure that we returned after 5pm as normally found a space without any problems. The cottage sofas & beds were comfortable, good linens provided & well vacuumed as others have already stated. The property is tired with marks on carpets & walls but mainly in kitchen which I believe maybe due to a leak earlier in the year as noted in previous feedback. Although property is in need of full refurbishment & decoration this did not affect our stay.

The decor is extremely dated , the kitchen is a disgrace damp all over . The gap around the back door is disgraceful and also around the front door. There is mould around all the windows. I arrived around 2 thinking it would be ready the cleaner had not been. This was all pointed out after staying there in december, nothing has been dealt with. when being charged that much it should not be in such a poor state. The bed was comfy and the settees are ok thats the only good thing i can think if to say. The under floor heating in the downstairs loo didnt work so it was too cold in there. All this did put a dampner on our holiday and we spent as little time as possible in it. On arrival at the cottage it seems the property may have Been unused for possibly a short time as the whole house was considerably cold which took the best part of the evening and the following day to get warm. The heating upstairs was not an issue but downstairs the temperature was probably due to the vast amount of draught coming from the kitchen and porch which never got warm. The downstairs toilet was freezing. The whole place could do with a deep clean, the pots in the kitchen had to be washed before using, the cups are heavily stained and would not come clean, the oven which I have pictures of is in need of a deep clean. Wherever you touched was dusty, the paintwork especially in the living room (skirting boards) are horrendous, we didn’t use the cupboards in the kitchen due to the state of them. There was no lighting in the porch area and in the bathroom, could not change the bulb as there was nothing to stand on to reach the fitting. The service from the office was brilliant, I just feel that the place could do with a visit as you may be unaware of the cleanliness and general state of the cottage.
