  • "Lovely and well equipped property apart from the narrow curved steps into house, steep creaky staircase and if we had known there would be two sets of roadworks going on at house, or had been informed about them we would have changed the dates."

Owner knew we had a dog but no fenced in safe dog area. No help to clear sudden snow, believe the owner stays very near and should have helped to clear the ice rink outside the door. Will definitely be back to Alnmouth but to a single level with dog area property

  • "Ideally situated on the edge of the village but within easy reach of the villages amenities Cottage is comfortable and lovely and warm considering we went in November this was much appreciated."

Bus stop within easy reach if you don't fancy using the car.Great variety of restaurants in the village with the Hope and Anchor a personal favourite. Quite simply we had a wonderful time helped by some unseasonally warm weather but with a wood burner to return to on the night.Highly recommended and we will be back.

  • "This is a well appointed and well equipped cottage - we also stayed last year and will definitely be booking it again."

We had fabulous weather this year which made the break even better. The whole area is stunning and so much less busy than Cornwall. The fact that dogs are welcome pretty much everywhere was also a huge bonus

  • "Such a lovely property in a delightful village."

The house was well equipped and the decor was good. We found the beds comfortable, the house was cosy and warm. We didn’t take our dogs as planned because of lack of garden but that was our choice.

  • "Lovely cottage."

In a quiet village withe stunning views. Plenty of local walking areas. Bus X18 takes you to many local villages. Drops off at Alnmouth methodist church 2mins from cottage. As we travelled by train only downside seems limited taxi service and no bus runs from station to Alnmouth

  • "We recently returned from our stay in Alnmouth."

The location of Rosedale Lodge is ideal for access to the village and beach. The property was clean and everything you could need was provided. There were two issues we encountered that impacted our holiday. The first was the parking situation. The listing states that private parking is available and from the photos it appears that this would be the driveway adjacent to the property. This was the main reason we selected this cottage. However the reality turned out to be that this was a driveway leading to 3 (soon to be 4) other properties. There is space for a couple of cars at the rear and because the other properties were not being used it worked out OK but during busy periods I can see this being a problem. Anyone who has visited Alnmouth will know parking on the street can be very difficult. The second issue were the beds, specifically the mattresses. We stay away from home on a regular basis and these were just terrible. One of the single beds had a halfway decent one which we took in turns to use for a better night’s sleep but the other single and double were awful. We ended up cutting our trip short by two nights because we were so fed up with it. Such a shame because if this one issues was fixed (easily done) it would make such a difference.

There is an allocated parking space for Rosedale Lodge, this guest is raising an issue that does not exist. Reference Mattresses we find this is subjective as we are also complimented on the beds. Property Owner

  • "The interior/facilities etc were excellent, and furnished to a high standard."

However, we felt two issues affected our stay: firstly, there was no garden, or anywhere private, to sit. Secondly, the parking and the ongoing building work impacted on our week. Some communication regarding this, prior to our arrival, would have been helpful, and, I believe, mannerly.

Again lovely comments about the property however their is seating in the small terraced garden that has wonderful afternoon and evening sun as per the previous guests comments. Terrace garden fully visible in cottage photograph. Property Owner

  • "The cottage is the best we've ever stayed in."

Loved the views from the picture book windows when you wake up in the morning, fabulously furnished, accessorised and equipped and of course in one of the best locations in beautiful Alnmouth. The terrace was lovely to sit on in the afternoon in the sunshine with a cup of coffee but I think the description of garden is misleading. The steep steps up to the property are difficult for someone with mobility problems. Our 2 dogs loved their holiday but the description of garden was inappropriate as the dogs could not be let out even on lead due to the steep drop from the terrace. In the case of my 14 year old dog who struggled with the steps it made it difficult in the early hours of the morning!

Thanks for describing the cottage as the best you have ever stayed in. The terrace in front of the property is wonderful in the afternoon sun but it is raised from the road as shown in the photograph. Property Owner

  • "Advertised as pet friendly, the garden is a path with a 5 ft drop to the pavement!"

There is an unlocked connecting door to the property at the back with a wardrobe in front of it in the hallway. When I complained Sue at Sykes Cottages said she’d get the matter addressed and call me back, that was last Tuesday and I’m still waiting to hear from her. Someone attempted to open the door from the other side last Friday , when I went round no one came to the door. Overall not happy with the connecting door set up, lack of garden for a pet friendly cottage and will not return or use Sykes again, bad customer service.

  • "We were extremely disappointed with Rosedale Lodge."

Slow response from the letting agent -locally and nationally-as we actually stayed 17th to 24th February 2024 and are still awaiting a reasonable resolution. The property is overall a poor standard except the living room. We had concerns about the property description being misleading including the following: 1. The neighbouring building works had a big impact on us. Not only the daily noise from them, early arrival of large crane (07.40) but also that the drive was blocked on some days by equipment that we had to duck under to get out. My wife's waterproof jacket was ruined by grease from the equipment. On one time, the road was blocked by lorries resulting in a detour of several miles to get to our destination. 2. Cleanliness, particularly in the kitchen, e.g. crumbs and hair in the cutlery tray and kitchen drawers. 3. The patio mentioned in the advert is in fact the path to the front door! This is not pet friendly. 4. There is another property joined to the back of Rosedale Lodge and an adjoining internal downstairs door to that separate property. Although the door is locked and blocked by a flimsy light weight wardrobe, we felt it should have been mentioned in the property advert. 5. The double bed is very uncomfortable and appears old. You sink into it due to the poor condition resulting in us not sleeping very well. 6. The property summary says parking on driveway is available. It also in the same description says on-road parking (confusing but apparently the only parking is in the road. We complained to Northumbria cottages who appeared helpful when we were in Alnmouth . However, we had no further contact after leaving and have had to make contact with the National company-we struggled to get updates on progress with the complaint which was frustrating . However, on 7th March we were informed that the property owner maintained the property description was accurate and concluded that no compensation should be paid by him. Clearly, we are very unhappy about this and the owner has ignored or not accepted any responsibility whatsoever for our concerns which we believe are entirely legitimate. The property description is still misleading as it says parking and that there has been minimal impact from the adjacent building on guests!!!!! I absolutely would not recommend this property and will not be staying again.

Difficult to respond to when we have comments from other guests that say "The interior facilities are excellent" "the cottage is the best we have ever stayed in" Property Owner
