  • "We have never left a negative review before and we have stayed in various properties in the area for 10yrs."

We were welcomed by wasps in the front room and discovered that the owners were aware as something had been inserted into the vents in the wall where they were nesting. Over the week we had over 100 of them which petrified one of the dogs who spent the whole holiday wanting to be in the garden where the grass required cutting. It was advertised as Tv in the bedroom but not attached to an aerial so no use. Vacuum didn’t work so had to use dustpan and brush daily. We did enjoy the location and set up of the cottage so not all negative.

  • "The property wasn't very clean."

Bed linen was clean, however floor was very gritty, with lots of dead flies and other insect on the window ledge. Shower room was clean, but again floor was gritty. The hoover in the property doesn't work (this was previously fedback in earlier reviews). No initial supplies for the open fire. No welcome pack, other than the generic sachets of tea and coffee which feels poor considering the property price. Didn't have any issues with the length of the grass in back garden which is very secure for dogs and small children. No issues with owners things in the conservatory or bathroom cabinet. Could do with updating pots and pans which are very much past their best, as is the hob (it took 15 minutes to fry an egg!), the oven works well. Toaster needs replacing (again mentioned in earlier reviews). The 4 places to eat in Beadnell are all lovely and a visit to Turnbull's in Alnwick is recommended

  • "Fantastic location with a secure garden to the rear ( which needs tidying, we cut the grass whilst there to be able to see to clean up after dogs) Lovely bathroom with good shower and soft towels."

New toilet brush needed as old one disgusting. Kitchen well stocked but needs new tin opener and toaster as only half worked. Bungalow needs TLC dust in rooms, marks on walls and dirty windows. Not brilliant for amount of money paid.

  • "This property was disappointing for the following reasons: Garden and shrubs in need of mowing / cutting Conservatory has the families (Owners?"

) items stored so we didn't use it Hard floors not suitable for some dogs, one of ours really struggled, so we had to put down throws throughout the house so he could get around. Foisty smell. Living room furniture in need of upgrade. Positives - Location - not far to beach kitchen and bathroom are modern and nice.

  • "We were pleasantly with this property as some of the previous reviews had not been particularly good."

They were . This is a lovely little property for short visits to the beautiful Northumberland Coast. The shower is powerful and hot, and the beds are comfortable. There is a small enclosed garden for your dog. The TV is a smart TV that has access to Netflix and streaming services. Should you need a night in. Okay, so there is evidence of the family that live here, such as some possessions in the bathroom cabinets and elsewhere, but this does not intrude or affect the quality of your stay. We really enjoyed it and would definitely revisit this property next time we came back to the area.

  • "This is a property close to the beach and the extra living space and garden were a great addition for our teenage sons and dog."

The modern bathroom is another positive of this house. We were disappointed to find that despite phoning Sykes before our visit to ensure the last reviewers concerns were addressed, they hadn't been. This meant we spent the first day of our holiday, cleaning, mowing and buying scented candles to disguise a lingering smell. On phoning Sykes again and sending photos we were again, disappointed with their lack of proaction. This is a house in a fantastic location, on a coastline we love. With some love and attention, it could be a great place to stay.

  • "I would recommend any prospective holiday makers not to book this house."

During our stay the front and back gardens were like a jungle and not as shown in the advert pictures given the amount of leaves I picked up ,it hasn't been maintained since last year, the grass was ankle deep, weeds everywhere , the seating area could not be used due to it being overgrown and lots of insects around as a result, the big tree at the front of the house completely blocked the front window and prevented light getting in , we stayed at the house for 4 weeks and there was no sign of a gardener throughout. A further issue arose with the tumble dryer being broken, we were informed the owner would rectify but they didn't, eventually after 18 days the holiday company were so embarrassed they took one from an unoccupied house to help us out . Should also thank Mike from holiday company who installed hooks outside allowing us to hang washing up whilst tumble dryer saga rumbled on, Mike also fixed front door which was broken, another issue is with the conservatory, it is basically a dumping ground for all the owners stuff, has a church pew for seating and is totally uninhabitable, you should also note this house does not have a freezer, I have never stayed in any other house this millennium that doesn't have a freezer, we have tried to resolve our issues with owner prior to publishing my review however they were not interested in engaging , this could be a great house but currently is not ,

  • "Brilliant village location, friendly neighbours."

Plenty of excellent eateries in the village, all dog friendly too. The outside seating could benefit from a cover as we had to clean pigeon droppings off before using and we turned them upside down to prevent having to clean them daily. Unfortunately we found the mattress in the double bedroom too soft and ended up with back ache most nights. Otherwise the property was well equipped.

  • "Peaceful, homely and welcoming cottage in a perfect location in Beadnell."

This is clearly a loved family home and thankfully a far cry from a lot of the sterile and soulless holiday lets that are bought up and rented out around this part of Northumberland. It has a lovely ‘feel’ to it which makes you relax and unwind as soon as you get inside and unpacked. I don’t think I’ve slept so well in ages! There’s a large enclosed garden which is ideal for dogs and a very short walk to the fabulous beaches in one direction and the village amenities in the other. The Courtyard Cafe is worth a visit - Great breakfasts! I’d recommend this lovely cottage without hesitation to anyone wanting a peaceful, relaxing break in one of the most picturesque parts of the Northumberland coast.

Very close to the beach is a real bonus. The cottage is simple and no frills, but suited us for our time there. The heating is not great as uses storage heaters, but note after first cold night it soon warms up.

..great for our 2 dogs and fantastic walks from the front door. Helpful neighbours too. The sea swimming didn't pan out because of the harsh NE wind so only got in once. Lovely place to stay and local eating places are excellent. Definitely back soon for a hat trick !

  • "McTash cottage is a lovely well equipped holiday home that is nicely set out."

It has a lovely secure garden that our greyhounds loved. The area is excellent and the neighbours are very friendly giving us helpful information and directions. The beach is really close to the property and the dogs loved walking on the sand. We got some spectacular photos of the sunrise on our second day. We ate out once at the Landing but cooked other times. The Craster arms and Beadnall Towers are nice places for a drink and dog friendly. Personal preference was Beadnall towers its lovely inside and the staff were extremely friendly and professional. There is lots do do in Northumberland. The only suggestions we would make but are not negatives and are personal to us is having a frying pan and we couldn't get the tv in the bedroom to work.

Hi Maggie I'm delighted you had a lovely stay at McTash and the dogs enjoyed it. There should be a frying pan there so I will purchase a replacement! Thanks Dawn, owner of McTash Property Owner

  • "GREAT VIBE!"

Waffle 6876 is a Hearing Dog for the Deaf in training and she absolutely loved her stay at McTash cottage! A cottage set up for dog owners ! The secure garden was lovely for zoomies and the bungalow was light and spacious. The humans responsible for the gorgeous Waffle enjoyed sea swims with the Beadnell Group as recommended by the lovely neighbours and an excellent hot shower was always available back at base. Once you park your car you really don’t need to drive again if you don’t want to. Bus trips are easy , frequent and dog friendly to local beauty spots, the Craster Arms and Fish and Chip van are excellent too. And the shop …it’s great too. We enjoyed it so much that young Waffle is demanding a return trip in November. We love Beadnell in the winter and with a coal fire what could possibly be better? Thanks for helping us with Waffles journey to be a life changing Hearing Dog . PS . Waffle is a spaniel….Working Cocker /Show Cocker XX

  • "Gardens unkempt, no bath, owners personal belongings left all around the house."

McTash isn’t just a holiday rental- it’s also our family home. We leave items and non- perishable foodstuffs in the kitchen as well as other items elsewhere. All of these are available for guests to make use of and are not expected to be replaced. The bathroom was recently renovated and the bath removed. This should have been communicated to all guests by the agents. The lawns and gardens are tended every fortnight by a gardener supplied by the agent, but on the day he was due to arrive, it rained and he was unable to complete the task. We’re sorry that you felt so disappointed by your stay in our home. This is the first negative review we’ve had and we have communicated our dissatisfaction to the agents. They will endeavour to do better in future. We appreciate your feedback. Property Owner

About the location

BEADNELL

Seahouses 1.5 miles; Bamburgh 5 miles.

This attractive and peaceful harbour village is situated beside one of the most beautiful stretches of Northumberland’s Heritage Coastline - Beadnell Bay. Established in Saxon times, Beadnell was once an important fishing village and a smuggler's haven. Nowadays, it is still a fishing village, but is equally popular with holidaymakers who come to enjoy its pretty harbour and, of course, the nearby sandy beaches. The village has a shop, two pubs and a café serving food. Popular Seahouses is just over a mile away and has shops, a supermarket and restaurants, and it also offers boat trips from the harbour to the magnificent Farne Islands - a haven for bird watchers. Bamburgh is close by, whilst the market town of Alnwick with its Castle and Gardens, shops, pubs and restaurants is a short drive away.
