  • "We had a lovely week at Holida Hoose."

It's a cosy place to spend some time away from home, nicely decorated and with everything you need close to hand. It's well located for the many beach areas and historical curiosities Northumberland offers and nearby Belford is a really nice village with a couple of pleasant pubs.

  • "Fabulous cottage in great spot to explore Northumberland."

I personally didn't mind the proximity of the trains and I would definitely return :) It is a railway cottage after all. The kitchen is delightful and well equipped, could just do with some pasta bowls. The rear garden is lovely but is shared with the other railway cottages and is open plan so bear in mind if you have dogs. There is a small fenced in yard to the rear though and a delightful fenced in cottage garden to the front but its not very private. Great facilities and a lovely shower. As mentioned in previous reviews I found the bed wasn't very comfortable!

  • "What an absolutely beautiful cottage!"

The welcome included wine and a congratulations car and box of chocolates for my daughter who'd just finished her A levels. What a lovely touch! The owners didn't have to, but it was a special touch. I also got a text from Jason to say the cottage was ready before the 4pm time! Again a great touch! The cottage itself is just stunning! Easy parking and everything you could possibly need! Maybe just a knife sharpener, but that's just being picky! We were gutted it was too warm to use the log burner! Beds are comfortable, and bedrooms and bathroom just lovely! It's just a short drive to Bamburgh. I will definitely be back! Probably the best cottage I've stayed in in this area! And I've been going to Northumberland for over 20 years! Thank you so much! And for those concerned about the trains! They add to the experience! A beautiful beautiful cottage! You have great taste!

It is very complete, has lovely crisp linen and fluffy towels. The welcome pack was a nice touch. It even had a newspaper. I also liked that you can sit outside in front of the house and at the back (both with stunning views). After the first train gave me a fright (while I was outside) with its sound and speed, I then liked to watch them go by and they didn’t bother me. Although the trains didn’t keep me awake, the sound of the snoring neighbor did. So I moved into the other bedroom. I think they were on holiday too, so you might not have this problem

We had to take a kettle of hot water up stairs every day to wash as you only got a cupful of warm water out of tap also we noticed the heating only comes on in middle of night by accident we found this out as we had to take it in turns to sleep downstairs with dog . She is a rescue and gets frightened at the train noise we was okey with the trains . In the evening s it got a bit chilly but there was no heating I was not going to muck around with it as I’m not familiar with this sort of thing so all in all it was not a good holiday one more thing about dog rules and regulations it dose need to be put on Sykes web site not wait until 3 days before you go on holiday. We would not have booked this property .sorry for this review but it all NEEDS to be addressed

We thank you and appreciate all feedback good or bad as this allows us to keep up with guest expectations. However, upon receiving the report regarding the apparent issues we attended the property as a matter of urgency that day, only to find the property in good working order. Room temprature is clearly displayed on the digital thermostats and adjusted simply by the up/down arrows. Hot water to the sinks is via a small electric boiler of which was also found to be in good working order. Both the above explained upon my visit. Regarding the dog rules we are merely bringing your attention to the terms and conditions of your booking; all for the safety and comfort of neighbouring properties and following guests. The location is great. Perfect for our needs. The cottage is beautiful and very well decorated. We stayed Fri to Mon, and the trains were not an issue to us. In the dark, I wouldn't have liked to walk to the village of Belford as the pavement is not cleared or well maintained on the road. However, this didn't really impact us as we were too tired after our days out to be bothered with the pub. We will likely book again. Thanks

Very comfy and cosy and ideally situated to explore Northumberland. We had a super time visiting favourite spots and finding new places. The cottage had all we needed and was charming. One negative - contrary to other reviews, trains DO run through the night (freight trains and the overnight sleeper). These woke up at least some of our party in the small hours most nights. This is mentioned in the description but not really emphasized, sadly.

  • "This is a beautiful cottage, clean, well equiped, well loved, and fairly priced, but for us it is in the wrong location."

We were surprised to find the high speed, electrified, east coast main train line less than 50 metres from the cottage. London-to-Edinbugh trains travelling at over 100mph was not what we expected. The heavier freight trains made the bed shake. We did have a great time seeing all the local sights, but didn't enjoy returning to the cottage. My constructive feedback is for Sykes Cottages to make it a lot clearer re the trains. I am aware that many past residents have found this place fantastic, as it is a truely beautiful property. But, if we had known all the details we would probably have gone elsewhere, even if it had been more expensive.

  • "The cottage is lovely, nice, clean and bright."

Nicely furnished to a high standard, the kitchen is well equipped (albeit no frying pan) and the utility room with washing machine is a bonus. The Living room too is a good size, nice and comfortable. Stone floors all downstairs add to the experience of stopping in such a property. Upstairs, again all rooms are nice and airy, nicely furnished for what they need to be. The proximity to the level crossing was no issue, as the sound of trains soon fades into the background, so don't let that put anyone off staying here. All in all, the 3 of us (a couple and Spaniel) had a relaxing stay. The cottage is in a good location for exploring all that Northumberland has to offer. This was our 6th Christmas/New year in the area, first time staying at Holida Hoose. We'd definitely book again, but perhaps in the summer months. The only issue we had was the temperature of the cottage. It was cold, upstairs especially so. The heating provided did little more than take off the chill. The log burners seemed to be relied on for extra heat, and at £5 a bag of logs, it felt a cheeky way of getting the guests to subsidise the heating bill. The hot water too out of all taps wasn't anything more than 'off cold'. To wash the dishes we had to boil the kettle. We are not new to Bamburgh in December, having stopped in different properties, all with log burners, but we've never needed them for heating, only as an added extra. The cottage overall is lovely, nothing stopped us from enjoying our break, we simply adapted. Yes I appreciate the cost of everything going up, but perhaps loosen the purse strings a little on the heating/hot water?

For us it was a perfect location as rural but close to the village where we did walk to on a couple of occasions to the cafe and also belford farm shop. The cottage is right next to the level crossing so you will hear the trains but this wasn't a problem to us at all. The cottage itself was spotlessly clean, well equipped and beautifully furnished. One thing that was particularly good is being able to cosy up at night and watch films etc on a decent sized TV without needing a magnifying glass - which we have found to be the case in other cottages we have stayed in. Thank you for a fantastic week away from it all. We wish we were still there and would love to return again next year to this beautiful part of the world.

Everywhere was finished to an excellent standard and well equipped. You were right next to the railway line and the trains were regular but it didn't bother us and stopped around 11pm so it wasn't all night. The only niggle I had was the mattress was too firm for me and gave me backache but my husband said it was fine. It was a great location but you were not in the village and this was about a mile and a half and there wasn't anything much around you but countryside which we loved. It was only 5 miles to the beach and you were close to the Holy Island, Seahouses. We will be returning sometime in the future.

House is recently well renovated but lacks some finishing touches such as dressing table & lighting and decent sized mirrors in the bedrooms. Also be aware that the trainline mentioned in the description is not only very close (20 yards away) but is also the busy main line for London/Newcastle/Edinburgh and has express trains travelling through at top speed which rattle the house plus a fair amount of long (18 carriage) goods trains. By the end of the week stay it was becoming less noticeable but not ideal for an idyllic country break unless you are a train spotter.

The house is well laid out, equipped snd very warm and comfortable. We appreciate that under today’s crazy power costs, care must be taken. The house itself was comfortably warm.
