I would go as far as to say it has been the nicest accommodation we have stayed in Northberland and we have been holidaying there for over 10 years. We would highly recommend and we will definitely return

  • "Absolutely lovely cottage and we all throughly enjoyed the holiday."

Our only complaint was about the neighbour who came to the door to complain about our dog barking. I can honestly say our dog barked only a handful of times. The neighbour also thought it was appropriate to speak to our 14 year old autistic son rather than ask to speak to myself or my husband. My husband confronted the neighbour who seemed more concerned that the dog was unsettling his customers in the other cottages than anything else. So dog owners beware! It would not stop us staying in the cottage again as it is stunning.

Homely, comfortable and perfectly located for exploring all of Northumberland country & coast. Had everything in the cottage you would need for a short break. Enclosed and fairly private garden was perfect for our dog and will be lovely for sitting in in the summer. Gorgeous views from the track in. We would highly recommend & definitely return.

Well maintained and in a lovely setting. One very small request would be some explicit instructions on where the bridal paths are for walking, as, unlike Scotland,, I know there is no "right to roam" and you don't want to end up where you're not supposed to be.

Fantastic scenery and quiet location yet close enough to Alnwick. Brilliant location to visit all the sites - Bamburgh, Holy Island and Cragside to mention a few. Very spacious cottage and well equipped. The back garden is very secure for your canine friend. One of the best holiday cottages we have stayed in. We will definitely return.

  • "Excellent property very well appointed and with."

Great range of facilities. Only problem was with heating in upstairs bedroom which seemed to be set and locked on 14 degrees during the night and 16 during the day, and the latter only when downstairs thermostat changed! Perhaps set it overnight at a more comfortable 16 and at least 18 during the day? Although we put bins out as requested on the right day, they were not emptied.

The location is peaceful and deep in the countryside, but with easy access to attractions and facilities in Alnwick. A very high standard of accommodation, spacious and comfortable for 4 people. We would be very happy to return.

  • "The accommodation was really well furnished to a high standard throughout and it was a really nice cottage."

To be as constructive as possible, on arrival we noticed cleaning products left out, no problem we put them away and the ash in the fire was left behind. The front door mat caused a slip as it was on tiled floor and the towel rail was not working in the downstairs bathroom. It felt a little restrictive with the tiniest bottle of washing up liquid( enough for one wash?) and two logs in the basket for the open fire ( walm weather luckily). All this was cosmetic but changed your view of what we felt overall. The cottage did have restricted views of the countyside but this wasn’t offered so nothing we could complain about. However, when we selected ‘Dog friendly’ as a filter we accept the dogs should not go on the beds, which ours don’t, but they sleep in their baskets in the bedroom and we didn’t expect the owners to restrict access to this area as per the local information sheets. This caused some issues with the dogs barking and hopefully we didn’t disturb any other residents. We however were up a few times in the night to reassure the pets all was ok.

  • "Lovely cottage if you are looking to get away from it all but still close enough to enjoy everything Northumberland has to offer."

No more than 30 minutes drive to Holy Island, Bamburgh and Dunstanburgh Castle. Warkworth / Alnmouth for the beach and Cragside NT only 15-20 minutes away and all worth a visit with Alnwick only down the road for provisions. The cottage is fully equipped with everything you need and the welcome pack of biscuits / tea / coffee was just what we needed after a long journey. We will definitely be back

  • "We had a very comfortable and enjoyable stay."

The property is well equipped and in a peaceful location but still close to Alnwick and the coast. The rear garden is well enclosed for the dog which is not always the case in holiday homes. The owners have created a wonderful retreat for their guests and we much appreciated it.

  • "We love Birsley, having stayed about 4 times now."

Great cottage, great location. Fabulous views south west from the driveway outside the cottage. Sadly a neighbour's fence, higher than it needs to be, is right outside the only window facing south west blocking this view to almost completely. This is the main drawback. Otherwise it's all good. Some kitchen scales would be nice.

We have stayed in many cottages in the area and Birsley cottage is one we would definitely return to . Despite staying in the coldest week in April the log burner kept us warm , after an initial problem finding logs so late in April .We throughly enjoyed our week and the cottage was very comfortable and had everything we needed.

  • "The property was amazing with everything and more."

Very comfortable. Unfortunately the day before we were due to leave we were left with no heating and hot water. It was a very cold and wet day out. This was not fixed until appx 5pm. Even then because of underfloor heating the house did not heat up. My friend who does not keep well had to go to bed with two hot water bottles which I had thankfully taken. I have been on constantly to office since coming back. Eventually offered £50 compensation. Considering how much we paid I am not happy with the outcome!!!!!!!

About the location

ALNWICK

Alnmouth 4 miles; Bamburgh 15 miles; Rothbury 10 miles.

The attractive and historic market town of Alnwick is dominated by Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland. The Castle Gardens, opened in 2002, are home to Europe's largest cascading water feature, a fabulous (and enormous) treehouse, a delightful rose garden and a beautiful, walled ornamental garden, which will delight novice and experienced gardeners alike. The castle is also famous as the setting for Hogwarts School featured in the Harry Potter films! The town's narrow streets have seen little change since the days when the London to Edinburgh stage coach passed through and the Market Place, with its stone cross, is still the central feature and the ideal venue for the weekly Saturday market. Alnwick offers a good selection of shops, pubs and places to eat and there is plenty to see and do, with miles of golden sandy beaches, numerous castles and boat trips to the famous Farne Islands all available nearby. Altogether a superb location for exploring Northumberland and its stunning Heritage Coastline.
