  • "We had a lovely time revisiting old haunts."

The property was clean, the kitchen was well equiped to the extent that even had an air fryer. The woodburner was a welcome resource. Lovely quiet surroundings. Would have no hesitation in recommending.

  • "We enjoyed our stay so much, I had high expectations for this modern cottage but they were exceeded."

I have worked in the holiday cottage industry in the Lake District and have seen and inspected a lot of holiday properties, this is up there with the best. It was tasteful (loved the William Morris touches) warm and so very, very comfortable. Everything about Orchard Cottage was as generous and high quality as as the welcome pack. Luxury touches were where they were needed, linen, mattresses, hand soap etc, but the finishes were visitor proof which allowed us to relax and not worry about a two year old causing damage, that is a very hard balance to strike. Cleanliness was excellent and cleaning products were supplied, always a bonus, the kitchen was very well equipped and we wanted for nothing.. We discovered a high chair, travel cot, step up and various toys in a cupboard which our grandson enjoyed. The bookshelves were well stocked with books, board games, jigsaws and we really appreciated the guest membership to Netflix one very stormy day! There were so many thoughtful touches such as outdoor seating dotted around to catch the sun, when it deigned to shine, and we were fortunate there too. The location is excellent - quiet, peaceful, with wildlife on the doorstep. It is within walking distance of Craster and there are many paths from the cottage if you want to leave the car at home. It is a very good base for so many lovely places along the NE coast. Our son in law did a 10+ mile run each morning and returned invigorated. The icing on the cake was seeing the Northern lights on two separate nights. We certainly hope to return.

Very helpful and friendly owner. Lovely quiet village, but easy access to all attractions. From the property saw rabbits, deer, and a kestral. Also saw seals, dolphins, curlew, herons and lots more wildlife. Embleton beach is amazing, and would definitely return to this bungalow.

The cottage is modern, clean, comfortable and extremely well equipped. It also has the most amazing views. The cherry on the cake is the Cottage Inn pub and restaurant which is a short stroll away and serves hearty meals at a very reasonable price. Perfect.

About the location

CRASTER

Alnwick 7 miles; Embleton 3 miles.

A picturesque village that seems to tumble into the sea, Craster was an important fishing harbour in the 17th century and is still famous for its oak cured kippers which have graced the best breakfast tables for more than 150 years. The village offers a pub serving food, a fish restaurant and Robson's famous fish shop. There is also an excellent children's playground. Nearby are some of Northumberland's finest sandy beaches. Just south of Craster is Howick Hall, which was built in 1782 and has associations with the Grey family, including Earl Grey the great social reformer and tea enthusiast. The gardens at Howick Hall are open to the public during the spring and summer and are especially worth a visit during the rhododendron season. A walk along the coastal footpath to the north of Craster brings you to the dramatic ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle - the largest ruined castle in Northumberland.
