  • "Beautiful location, really nice that you could easily walk down to the beach and into embleton through the fields."

The pool was nice, just a little bit too cold for my daughter to be in for very long, and the cottage was great. Would definitely stay again

  • "Beautiful location but a little too isolated for some of us."

The property was nicely decorated although this was let down by the amount of dust seen i.e TV in bedroom and some doors. Given the list of instructions left for guests i.e stripping beds, emptying all bins and ensuring all kitchen equipment left clean etc we felt a little let down that the rest of the property didn’t live up to this. The use of the pool was great albeit limited but this is understandable if all properties are occupied. All in all a nice place but not as homely as other Sykes Cottages.

  • "We have stayed at North Farm Cottages before but this was our first time in Long Cart Cottage."

We chose Long Cart Cottage because one of our party has Parkinson’s disease, we realise that the cottage wasn’t advertised as suitable for people with a disability but it did have an adjustable bed and a ramp into the cottage. We feel it would be a benefit for the wet room to have a hand held shower as well as an overhead one which would make showering for a disabled person so much easier. The second bathroom would also benefit if it had a shower over the bath. Overall the cottage was very clean and comfortable.

  • "What a fabulous cottage…."

Warm, amazing views, very well equipped in every way with a few ‘extras’ that went above and beyond eg bread, milk, tea, toiletries all more waiting for us. Generous provision of towels and bedding. Easy walks to the beach and the village, this complex of cottages is in a fabulous spot. And with private use of an on-site indoor swimming pool! (Via a booking system shared with all the cottages) we have loved our week here and didn’t want to leave.

We particularly appreciated the owners maintenance of their dedicated footpaths to nearby Embleton & the coastal path. It would have been helpful to list in advance what the 'welcome pack' contains so we didn't duplicate on produce, but otherwise an excellent experience.

  • "My husband is in a wheelchair and we booked Long Cart because of the availability of a wet room and it all being on one floor."

We had booked a shower chair in advance and taken our own stick on handles and toilet seat for the bathroom but struggled the first night because the toilet had no bars on either side. However the next day we asked and were provided with a toilet frame. We also asked for something to act as a ramp to enable him to get out into the enclosed garden ( 2 steps) and this was also provided . The only thing I would say is that the bathroom is a bit tight in space for manoeuvering a wheelchair but we managed. Our problems were dealt with promptly and efficiently. We enjoyed our stay and will most probably be back. Many thanks.

  • "We loved Long Cart cottage , however we were disappointed in the facilities for my disabled mother."

The wet room was not ideal, There were no grab handles near the toilet or shower. The toilet itself was to low and we had to get my daughter to bring a higher seat which was attached to the original seat. The shower itself didn’t have a hand held facility which made it very difficult for her, If these issues were addressed the cottage would be ideal for anyone with a disability

  • "Overall we really loved staying in Long Cart Cottage."

We have stayed on at North Farm twice before in different properties (which says it all!). The location is great, being near the beach is lovely, and we love the pool. The kitchen was really well stocked with equipment, and the welcome pack was very gratefully received. It would be great to have an upgraded TV to a smart TV so that we could access our own content, though (the DVD selection was awful and loads of discs missing). My other suggestion would be to upgrade the furniture/storage - some of it was a bit creaky and there was a lack of shelves/drawers to put your clothes in/on. Overall we were very happy and comfortable in the cottage and would come again!

Problem if you cannot walk that far. Good central location for the visiting of castles, houses and gardens but not if you want to visit the sea if you can’t walk up and down steep hills, or even get parking.

  • "Lovely holiday cottage in a lovely location."

Great kids play area and ducks to feed, plus friendly sheep, rooster and hens. Beach was a bit further than expected- 28 minutes walk (with a 5 year old) according to strava, and not the buggy friendly path we had been expecting. Still a lovely walk though. Different lovely wander to the village and 3 pubs to choose from. Only thing missing was a BBQ which would have added nicely to the stay. Would recommend as we had a lovely half term stay.

  • "The views of the sea, which we expected, were great, but walking the path down to the beach was a lovely experience."

We hadn't been aware of the secure duck pond or the childrens playground, which would be lovely for people with young children. In our property there was an orthopedic bed, which we hadn't noticed mentioned in the literature, but for some people would have been really useful. We will certainly look for availability at this or one of the other properties at the complex, when we next visit the area. We had planned this visit with our son and his wife, but unfortunately, due to Covid restrictions in the Northumberland area, mixed households were not allowed, so we had to visit alone.

  • "The best thing about Long Cart Cottage was the view."

The accommodation was very clean and spacious and comfortable and we had no concerns over the virus during our stay. The king sized bedroom was spacious and mattress comfortable, but the view out of the window was of the SUV of the owner, thus not very private. Also of note is that this cottage is very close to the chicken coop which contained 3 cockerels, but they were not too noisy but I would not recommend this cottage for light sleepers. The ensuite wet room adjoins the single bedroom and master bedroom and only 1 door locks from the inside. Note that the property only contains 1 shower (in the wet room) and it completely wets the sink and toilet upon use. As there was no cabinet for your toiletries, these too got wet. Both bathrooms do not have a window. The kitchen was very well stocked and dish washer tablets provided. The fridge and freezer are separate and as a family of 4 we struggled with the small fridge. The outside patio was lovely but note that it is not completely private from next door's hot tub. Wifi signal was perfect but no mobile signal. The location was about perfect with Seahouses and A1 about 10-15 min drive away in opposite directions.

Lovely views over to Dunstanburgh Castle and nice walks in both directions. The swimming pool was great - a real bonus, especially for one member of the family with mobility problems who was unable to enjoy the walks. We would use this accommodation again. Booking easy and efficient, our only complaint being that to change the booking slightly, which would have incurred no extra charge for the property, would have cost us £30. This seems excessive for a couple of clicks / emails.

The pretty village of Embleton is ideally placed for exploring one of the most attractive stretches of Northumberland's Heritage Coastline. A beautiful grassy path runs from the village to neighbouring Craster, alongside the sea and past Dunstanburgh Castle - the largest ruined castle in Northumberland. Embleton itself has a village pub and a local hotel, and there is an excellent range of amenities in nearby Alnwick. The gardens at nearby Howick Hall are open during the summer and are noted for their beauty, whilst Alnwick Castle and Garden are a 'must-see' when visiting the area.
