  • "This is such a great house, the pictures don't do it justice."

We were a bit concerned before we arrived that being 8 adults and a dog it might not be big enough but it was perfect. Good size bedrooms, two big lounges and a table big enough for us all to fit around. It snowed on our visit so we really liked the log burner as we curled up with a cuppa. The location is great, easy access to so many beautiful Northumberland beaches and the village itself. We would highly recommend this property.

Apologies about the general waste bin we took it out to the end of the road but they didn't empty. I even asked the neighbours if they'd been. Not sure what I did wrong just followed the instructions, but then had to bring it back in. Cottage on the other hand was so lovely we would like to stay again Excellent stay, comfy beds so loved the decor

  • "We greatly enjoyed our stay, possibly the 6th or 7th time we’ve stayed here."

The back of the house works really well for living and eating and the place was warm and very comfortable despite the rain and cold outside. There had been a couple of cleaning hiccups with three partly finished wine glasses on the floor beside the sofa and the microwave had obviously not been cleaned after its last use. These issues were easily remedied and did not change our view that this is a really good place to stay.

Needs wine glasses as only 2 in the property. Pillows need replacing as all of them are lumpy. The double bed in the front upstairs room has broken slats at the bottom of the bed. The downstairs double has no mattress cover and the mattress under the lose topper is very badly stained- not nice at all. The property is comfortable but just needs some soft furnishings replaced and a deep clean to address these niggles. That said we had a great week A mirror would be useful in the twin room as no where to see to dry hair without using another room

Thank you. We have inspected the property and its furnishings and don’t recognise any of the issues you mention. We are sorry they did not meet your expectations. Property Owner

Lovely cosy house with everything you would need for your stay, including nice touches of wine, coffee pods and biscuits! Washing up liquid/ cloths/ gloves etc all provided along with other kitchen necessities which was really great. Lovely big garden with a great decking space and very quiet and private. Nice big social space downstairs with separate living area if needed, lots of CDs, games and books provided which was great. Only things to comment would be the decor could do with a refresh, lots of scuff marks, re-painting in certain areas that are different colours to the original paint making it look tired, clean on the surface but needs a big deep clean. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, love the area and will definitely be holidaying in Northumberland again!

The separate living room was perfect for a larger family. Great facilities, great location, well furnished and super comfy beds for a perfect sleep. Lots of extras including sound systems etc. The house is located on the edge of the village but there are walks to the coast just across the road. It wasn't garden weather but I would love to sit out in the summer. Our only issue was with the late check-in on a cold December day. We contacted Sykes by phone and then email and asked if we could have a slightly earlier check in because we had a two very young children with us. Sykes said it was not possible to even ask the owners and it was an insurance issue. I spoke to the owner while we were at the cottage and she said she could have liaised with the cleaning team to allow earlier access in the circumstances.

There were some problems this time that weren’t resolved despite mentioning them as soon as we arrived and regularly checking in to see whether they could be resolved. This was very disappointing and has made us less pleased with the stay overall. We were reassured they would be sorted (for the next person) so let’s hope we don’t have the same issues next year.

Two points for feedback: Cleanliness could be improved, ie there were crumbs in two of the cupboards, dust and cobwebs on some of the skirting boards and cobweb in corner of one room. Any other time and we wouldn’t have been concerned by this but given the Pandemic and the promise of a thorough and deep clean, this didn’t feel as if it had been thoroughly cleaned. We cleaned the areas. The second point was that I rang ahead and asked for a high chair and was promised that one was in the cottage. There wasn’t and a cot was erected instead which we didn’t ask for or need. As it was we managed but if our little boy had been younger it would have been an issue and we would have rung with the request while we were there. It was still a lovely cottage and garden, very well situated and we had a lovely family time. Thankyou Graham

The house is spacious and well equipped with a large sunny garden (we stayed in February and it was a sun trap). The village had a hotel/restaurant which serves excellent food at reasonable prices and the Greys inn is a welcoming pub with friendly locals. A 15mins walk to the beach on one of England's finest stretches of coastline, with quality walking on the doorstep and cycling beaten only by Scotland's west coast for views makes for an exceptional location. Such a lovely village and friendly pub. Unfortunately the hotel was closed for the winter which we were not aware of and therefore had to cook at the cottage. However this was not a great problem as we had brought enough food and drink to supply the whole village and the cooking facilities we great. We were 3 couples and had all read the same description and had come to the conclusion that the beach was much nearer than stated. It was either walking over 2 muddy fields or walking down past the golf club. This was fine for 2 couples but the third had a mobility problem and could not access the beach. It would be advisable to state this in the description. I would reiterate that the cottage was perfect in every way, in fact, I personally wanted to take my bed home.
