  • "We have stayed at North farm before and as we are fairly frequent visitors to the area would choose to stay again."

All the extra little touches do make it feel luxurious and the pool is fabulous. Any little criticisms are just down to personal taste e.g. the sofa is not comfortable and the cooker is not very easy to master!

We are sure if you had asked a member of staff they would of been more than happy to help explain how to use the cooker also there is a blue folder in the cottage that has appliances manuals in to help Property Owner

  • "Overall very good."

Warm and well equipped, good condition. Sofas need updating as uncomfortable. Could not use hot tub as too exposed. Swimming pool ok but nowhere to sit at side of pool and could not see any life belts or safety equipment in the pool area.

The majority of our guests use the swimming pool so we don’t feel the need for any chairs around the pool. The pool does have a rescue pole which is on the wall next to the swimming pool door. We also have guidelines on our disclaimer that explain it is an unmanned swimming pool all guests are asked to read and fill the disclaimer in before they use the swimming pool Property Owner

  • "What a lovely place!"

The cottage was amazing…nice and clean and the little extras on arrival were a lovely surprise. (Bread, butter, milk, orange juice and biscuits) Fabulous! We didn’t use the hot tub or the swimming facilities but we will next time. A curtained gazebo for privacy around the hot tub would be nice. Extra lighting outside too. I would recommend this location without hesitation. Beautiful! Thank you.

Thank you for your lovely feedback. We don’t have privacy screens around any of our hot tubs as we don’t want to spoil the views from them. Also we would always be battling with gazebos with the wind and rain Property Owner

  • "The cottage was very clean and comfortable although we did think the sofas weren't super comfy."

The hot tub and and pool were great to have. Beautiful, quiet location with gorgeous views. The cottage and site were very tidy and well maintained. It would be good to have some instructions for the TV as it took a while to work out (we also noticed we couldn't use Disney+ on it). Overall, we had a wonderful time and would recommend the cottage to friends and family.

Thank you for your feedback. The tv is a smart tv so that you can log into your Netflix account or others but we don’t provide the subscriptions to any online streaming services Property Owner

  • "Absolutely gorgeous property with stunning views."

The cottage was fantastically equipped, having virtually everything we needed right down to a highchair, cutlery and crockery for our little one (19 months old). She absolutely loved seeing the chickens and ducks, going swimming and exploring the fields on site. There is so much to see and do in the local area and even more places to explore within a 30 minute drive. Bamburgh castle is a must do and the beach at Beadnell is stunning (1 hour free parking in the car park too!). Our only complaints were the mattress and sofas were pretty worn out and not the comfiest but everything else was so brilliant, it’s easy to look past this. We had such a lovely stay here and will definitely be back.

We appreciate your feedback. We are pleased that you found the cottage well equipped and you enjoyed your stay Property Owner

The cottage was lovely and exceeded our expectations. The log burner and hot tub were a bonus, as was the private use of the swimming pool for 5 sessions of one hour. There were some lovely touches, like a welcome pack of essentials. Despite some reviews, we found the beds very comfortable. We are already planning our next trip to the site, which has a variety of cottages available to suit different family sizes.

Thank you for your lovely feedback. As you will appreciate it’s difficult to get a mattress that pleases everyone. We look forward to welcoming you back Property Owner

Cottages are classed as luxury but the towels provided for use in the bathroom were small and threadbare. Also dining table far too large for the space especially as the cottage only sleeps four.

  • "This property is advertised as luxury."

Having stayed at numerous properties either through Sykes or other providers we would say that this is not an accurate description from previous experiences. The sofas are uncomfortable, too low and to be honest worn out and thread bare; the kitchen equipment is basic; the tv is small and incorrectly positioned, giving neck-ache if watched for any length of time; no tv in either bedroom; no shelves in bathroom or shower. In our opinion and from vast experience, this property is a long way off the mark of fitting the criteria of "luxury" and we were disappointed.

We have replaced the sofa, television and the kitchen equipment. We have looked into putting televisions in the bedrooms but at the moment we won’t be putting them in Property Owner

Swimming pool and hot tub fantastic. Lots if space if you have children to run around in safely with a play area, slide etc to boot! However the beds are uncomfortable, and the duvets and pillows are way past their sell by date, ( I’ve thrown better ones away) The sofas similarly are of poor quality and uncomfortable. Other reviews have noted this as an issue. Bed linen, & towels are clean and of good quality. If you like to watch tv whilst away.. the tv is mounted way too high for viewing, you end up with neck ache. All of the above are very easy to rectify. However I have stayed in Embleton before and will definitely come back lots of lovely walks, pubs/ places to eat along the way. Just replace the cheap furniture and bedding and this will be a huge 10/10 place to stay!

Pool is lovely and warm which was great for our kids. Only slight niggles would be to put the gate lock code to embleton in the book clearly (we walked down with a pram in the rain and got stuck!) and to pop the heating on in winter before guests arrive. We spent the first hour in our coats. Would book again, thank you.

  • "We enjoyed our stay at North Farm Cottages so much that we booked again for next year while we were still there, and that’s the best recommendation we could give."

The location, with the view down to the sea and Dunstanburgh castle, is fantastic and to be able to sit in the hot tub and look at that amazing view was the highlight of our stay at West Gate. The property was clean and well equipped even in the lockdown conditions, and we were lucky to have very good weather allowing us to get out and about every day, as there is plenty to see nearby. The complex is well maintained and although there are lots of cottages, in West Gate you feel very private. We also enjoyed using the pool although the rota times didn’t always suit us, this may have been different if the weather hadn’t been so good! The only thing people should be aware of is that although the property sleeps 4, the second (twin) bedroom is short on storage space and there is only one bathroom which contains the only toilet. We stayed as a couple and felt that with two more adults it would have been cramped, but with two children it would have been OK.

We stayed in west gate cottage and enjoyed panoramic views from the hot tub on most days. The property was very clean and had everything we needed for a weeks holiday. There was plenty to do all within a 15 minute drive. One of our party had mobility difficulties and was unable to use the pool due to the ladders being too short. However those that used the pool found it very clean and a great temperature. It was so nice to have a pool all to yourself. All of our party were able to access the hot tub and enjoyed the many walks around the location. The play park and goal were a welcome touch and our 8yr old made full use of the facilities. We will miss the great views and would definitely return for another holiday, it such a great place to visit.

We stayed at West Gate at North Farm Cottages, near Embleton: modern, very well equipped; hot tub, swimming pool, lovely walk over the fields to the beach at Embleton Bay at Low Newton-By-The-Sea. Communication and support was excellent throughout. Perfect location for exploring the local area including Alnwick, Craster and further up to Lindisfarne. We loved the facilities especially the pool which was really lovely. The photos don’t do it justice. The one thing the owners might consider is a way of guests letting other guests know when they’re not using their pool slot so they could move their slot or have longer in the pool. It really was stunning and we would love to come back in the future.

  • "This light, airy and extremely clean little cottage had everything we needed and we very much enjoyed our stay."

However, the photographs shown online are deceptive and the living area was much smaller than we expected. The spotless hot tub was a real treat and the swimming pool, also very clean, a luxury but we did find the repeated allocation (4/6) of lunchtime/early afternoon pool slots a little inconvenient and found ourselves having to forgo some of our planned excursions so as not to miss our pool time. We had expected one or two slots in the middle of the day but not so many.

  • "The cottage was lovely and well-equipped."

The sea views are fantastic and the chickens & pony kept us amused when looking inland. A longer than anticipated walk to the beach but only a short walk to the facilities in the village, including some good eateries. The only downside was the pool: very limited access and often at an unsuitable time of day, unless you have small children. It also wasn’t very clean - long strings of hair in the pool, around the pool and in the changing facilities each time we went. Very off putting and unpleasant.

  • "West Gate is in a great location and the owner had mown paths down to the beach and the village, which was very useful for going walking."

The property is finished to a high standard, especially the bathroom. However, it's much smaller than the photos suggest; you can't open the washing machine or walk round the table without moving the sofas, and the bedrooms are tiny. Okay for a couple, but four adults would be dreadfully cramped. The sofas and bed linen are cheap and not of the quality I would expect in a self-professed luxury cottage. We stayed for 2 weeks and the owner said we would have to pay an additional charge to have clean bed linen after the first week! The hot tub was nice, although a wind-break would be good, and like other visitors we were disappointed to find that it cannot be used on Fridays - we didn't know this when we booked. The swimming pool is lovely, especially when you have it to yourself, but we lost one of our slots because of extended servicing (no apology or replacement slot offered), and we used it less than we wanted to because of the non-negotiable allocation of time-slots, which gave us no early morning slots (some properties had 2 per week), but almost all afternoon/evening slots, when we had other things planned. Given that the pool was a major differentiator in our choosing West Gate, it was disappointing. We have stayed in lots of luxury properties in the UK and don't feel that West Gate compares well to others in the same price bracket, or offers good value for money. We enjoyed our holiday because Northumberland is gorgeous (we used to live there and knew this beforehand), but we wouldn't go back to this site.

We notified the site staff that the two single mattresses seemed well past their best (you could feel the springs through them). In less than 24 hours both were replaced. Superb service. Be aware that the new indoor swimming pool is on a rota basis (each accommodation taking turns; we had three slots during our week stay) but the upside is you generally get the pool to yourself so feel like you've won the lottery. The gardens at nearby Howick Hall are open during the summer and are noted for their beauty, whilst Alnwick Castle and Garden are a 'must-see' when visiting the area.
