  • "I have stayed in different lodges at Brada Quarry previously, the location & the spec of the lodges are amazing."

I have to say we were a little disappointed that the log burning stove has been removed at Cowslip for a terrible looking electrical one which didn’t work, the pictures need to be updated regarding this.

  • "Absolutely gorgeous setting with a view to the castle."

Overall we were really delighted with the lodge however there were a few niggles which others have picked up on in other reviews but don't look like they've been addressed. It's a great size overall but the beds don't appear to be king size as advertised, one of the bunks mattresses was truly awful - you could feel every single spring, some of the towels were stained, lack of hanging storage in the bunk room and main bedroom, the long handle sweeping brush needs replaced, it was damaged and you could easily cut yourself on it, the welcome guide mentioned using coasters but there were none, and the outdoor seating cushions were stained. I think if you're paying a couple of thousand for a weeks holiday in a "luxury lodge" there shouldn't be anything to pick up on. Having said that though we did have a lovely stay, I only mention the above as they ought to be addressed.

  • "The lodge was filthy, including the linen, towels and scatter cushions (some of which are actually on the beds)."

The floor was dirty, and left the soles of feet/socks black. There are lot of cobwebs in the high ceilings. I had to clean the kitchen worktops before use as they were covered in a white substance. Some of the pans in the cupboard were also dirty. The windows are so dirty it's difficult to appreciate the views through them. There is also mould in the bathrooms. This is in addition to the unacceptable level of dust and grime found pretty much everywhere else. Added to this is the general state of repair of the lodge. The paintwork is very noticeably chipped/scuffed/dirty in all rooms. Some windows didn't open. The longer curtains were stained/mouldy at the bottom. Unfortunately there are no cup coasters, so trying to protect furniture is difficult, despite the strict instructions in the file. There was no welcome pack, in fact there wasn't even a single toilet roll in the whole lodge, but thankfully we had the foresight to bring some. We also had to find the black bin which had been abandoned at the other side of the park. The previous occupants appear to have used the recycling bin for general waste as a result. To say we are disappointed, especially with the price paid is an understatement. I contacted the owner with the issues and photographic evidence, and requested some form of compensation for the time and effort it took to clean the lodge and launder the towels/linen. As you can imagine this was met with silence. Spend your money elsewhere. Holiday ruined.

  • "Lovely location and well presented accommodation."

Lack of a wardrobe in the master and limited clothing storage in the children's room is an issue. Not much storage in kitchen for food. The flat floors was great for elderly guests but the step up to the entrance was high. Simple addition of small ramp or half step would make it perfect for those with limited mobility.

  • "Great property, views were fantastic."

Clean comfortable and modern. Location offers fantastic views being idilic and relaxing within an simple drive into bambrugh. Although dog friendly there isn't many routes to walk them nearby at least not known by visitors. Might be useful to have a map of walking routes nearby as unsure if local fields had walking routes and wouldn't use roads as far to narrow. An outdoor jacuzzi would benefit the property allowing the experience of the nights sky's in the warmth. Really good property and will be back.

  • "Lovely lodge, however a few things took the edge off the self described ‘luxury lodge’ tittle and price."

Mould in both bathrooms. Cushion covers and curtains all need washing (or replacing as damaged), a little grotty and stained. Quite a lot of cobwebs too. A few tweaks and it would definitely be luxury :) All that said, we had a great stay! Great location, very peaceful.

The house is very nicely decorated and encourages relaxation which we were happy to go along with. The surroundings are lovely too and it's only a short drive into Bamburgh so it's not too far off the beaten track. I would recommend blinds are fitted to the higher uo windows as it's difficult to see the t.v when the sun is blazing in! Stunning though & we will most definitely be back!

The facilities were clean and tidy, and a comfy cot was provided on request. My kids absolutely loved the cows and sheep who came to visit during the day! Although there are other lodges quite close by, the aspect of this one means you can look out the window and think you are in the middle of nowhere. Only minor annoyances were the drippy tap in the kitchen and the flush in the ensuite kept sticking. If these were rectified it would be a 10/10!

What a location! Everything was lovely in the lodge… some items perhaps needed a deeper clean. The oven tray we had to clean ourselves and the knife block needed a scrub, but it didn’t take away from the lodge as it was lovely. We would definitely book again if came back to this area.

!!! The property was absolutely gorgeous, it had everything we needed and was in a fantastic location. We had one query about the bins but within an hour the owner, Rachel, rang and sorted the problem straight away. The only constructive critique I would give is that the outside walls an around the doors need brushing down as there were quite a few cobwebs. While we were there it was our grandaughters 3rd birthday and she had a lovely day. She loved the fact that the cows came down in a morning to say morning and came down to say goodnight at teatime

  • "Cowslip lodge was situated in a perfect position, furnished out very nice, lovely furniture, beautiful views, nice accessories and a very sunny position all day, we were happy with the above comments."

However the main thing that let this lodge down for us was the hygiene / cleanliness, very bad in the bathroom and shower and toilets, mould and stains. These can be rectified with a thorough cleaning. There were stains on the single duvet and hairs. I spent a full afternoon cleaning the lodge, but not the mould areas just a spray. We would be more than happy to book this lodge again, if the cleanliness and hygiene is rectified. The response from the property owner was first class and a very nice person. Please rectify this for the next guests as it is important for such a lovely lodge. Dryden company very polite and quick with their response, nice gentlemen that came out to the lodge. We were offered a cleaner to come out to the lodge but this would have been too disturbing for our guests. The lodge would benefit greatly with a gate for dogs as other dogs wander in and spoil it , this is an important fixture for a dog friendly lodge. Other dogs wander around the lodge and leave their mess which we had to clear. We had a lovely time in Cowslip and we would gladly return should the above issues be rectified as I wouldnt want to come away and clean whilst on holiday. More relaxing with a gate for the dogs and to keep others out. Thank you to the owner of this fantastic lodge, who will be proud to own Cowslip

We have stayed at Brada Quarry last year in a different chalet and the location within the site of Cowslip was far superior with a great view of the Castle and fields, tucked away in a corner of the site, with a decking looking onto fields and very private, and also getting the sun for the vast majority of the day. Cleanliness was okay but needs a bit more attention to detail - e.g. oven grill and wire racks were greasy/dirty, top of cooker extract not cleaned, cobwebs in those hard to reach places. Lodge needs a light at the side leading from car parking to the back door access; also could do with a toiletries rack in the shower - small stuff but detail counts

The location is perfect, if you would like to explore the area you will need a car. The walk to Bamburgh is on a busy country lane. As this is pet friendly lodge the outside seating area was open and meant dogs were able to roam free as soon as the bi-fold doors/front door was opened. If there was some plastic/glass, around the decking area, this would allow dogs to be contained and we could enjoy the decking area without worry or concern.

We stayed in February and while the weather was cold we had lovely blustery walks on the beach at Ross Back Sands, Beadnell Bay, Budle Bay and Embleton. It was fantastic, we even saw Dolphins in the sea. While it was cold outside, the lodge itself was warm and cosy. The listing states there is a log burner. This is not true there is flame effect electric fan heater. While I missed the real fire you really don't need it for the heat, the electric radiators were much more efficient than I thought and we were very cosy. However you really should change the listing to be accurate. Another thing to mention was the bunk bed mattresses are very firm and the kids had to sleep on a duvet to be comfortable, I'm not sure anyone older then 12 would be comfortable on them. Our double bed was divinely comfy though! I'm sure we will be back.

About the location

BAMBURGH

Seahouses 3.5 miles; Beadnell 5.1 miles; Alnwick 16.9 miles.

The village’s sweeping sandy beaches and dramatic fortress - Bamburgh Castle - make Bamburgh one of Northumberland’s major visitor attractions. The castle can be seen for miles and dominates this part of the county’s coastline. Today it remains home to the family of the great Victorian industrialist Lord Armstrong, and is open to the public on a daily basis. Although overshadowed by the great castle, Bamburgh village is picturesque with neat grey stone cottages facing a manicured village green. There are excellent pubs, hotels with restaurants and a small selection of village shops. There are golf courses in Bamburgh and nearby Seahouses, and within easy reach are more wide sandy beaches, lovely fishing villages, stunning castles and coastal islands to explore along the dramatic Heritage Coast. There are numerous other attractions also a short drive away, including the famous Alnwick Castle and Gardens and the historic walled border town, Berwick-upon-Tweed. A superb base for exploring Northumberland.
