  • "Really enjoyed the stay, probably more so than a previous stay on the same site last year."

We take our 87 year old Dad with us and the high chairs made it for us as he has difficulty getting out of low sofas. Just in case you ever think about changing these for something lower in seating position. It was a key decision point for us in choosing your property over others. One other point but an important one. The lighting around the step-off the patio is not great and the stone on the edge of the gravel path is a real trip hazard due to the lighting situation. You may want to address that. Apart from the that we had a great relaxing time and thank you very much for helping us make more happy memories as Dad is really quite poorly.

  • "The cottage was in a lovely setting and a high spec overall."

A few negatives. Unfortunately, it was very cold when we arrived as the heater in the sitting room wasn’t working and we also stepped straight in to water as we entered the accommodation as the fridge was broken and leaking. The owners were very apologetic, easy to communicate with and helpful and had things fixed as soon as they could. They also delivered wood and firelighters. It’s just not ideal to have this going on during your break. The instructions for the cooker were wrong so the owner also helped with that. The details for the accommodation state that it is a stroll in to Bamburgh. This was the main reason we booked it. It is by no means a stroll in to Bamburgh, far from it. The lights in the bedrooms need replacing and the garden area is not private, meaning people just walk right in to your garden and past your bedroom window and the garden is not enclosed for dogs. Northumbria Cottages were very difficult to contact ahead of our stay.

  • "The place is lovely."

Roomy. Some negatives: We asked for the bi-fold doors to be fixed. They said a maintenance man would come but he never did which meant we couldn’t use them which really wasn't very good at all as we’d have like that and it would have added to our holiday. The lights in bedrooms were basically useless - need proper bulbs. Would be better if the fences on patio was fully enclosed for kids and dogs. It was very very hot. Thankfully I’d bought a fan but think one or two should be provided. The hot water in tap was way too hot and needs considering for children. Otherwise a very nice stay. Lovely deco. Rooms decent size. Facilities to wash and cook were good although took us a while to work out the hob so better instructions would be good. Having a utility room was great. Views from place amazing and being in the corner meant we feel we had privacy and also good grass space for the door. Room for at least 3 cars. Very nice. Would defo stay again as all the things mentioned should be easy to fix.

  • "Absolutely beautiful holiday home in the perfect location!"

! The bi-folding doors looking onto cow fields and the quiet corner plot location were just absolutely brilliant. We had the best week here. It is worth noting that it gets very hot in summer if you don’t leave any windows open and dogs are not allowed to be left on their own, but we will 100% be back!!!

Beds and pillows are very comfortable and the showers are great. The lodge has lovely countryside views from which you can see Bamburgh Castle . We walked into Bamburgh on the country footpath which took about 40mins or could drive there in less than 5 mins. Had a great holiday.

  • "This property was very comfortable and situated in a lovely, peaceful location."

Unfortunately it was let down because of poor cleanliness and hygiene including lots of dirt and fluff on the floors, dirty grill tray, dirty mugs and marked pillows. There weren't enough wine glasses for 6 guests and one was cracked. It's not what I would expect when a holiday home is this expensive and cleaners have 6 hours to clean a relatively small lodge.

Dear Helen, thank you for your feedback and making us aware of the poor level of cleanliness. I have fed back your comments to our cleaning company who have have apologised and reassured me that standards will be improved. I wasn't aware of the shortage of wine glasses. I will make sure they are replenished asap. Frequently, mugs and glasses are broken and we as the owners aren't informed. I do hope you will give us another chance and return to Eagle Fern in the future. regards, Sean Property Owner

The area of grass to the side was great for our dog to run around in. We were lucky with the weather and were able to sit out, BBQ and enjoy the view, so much to see and do in the area we will have to visit again. The cottage was well equipped and plenty of room for 4 of us, and certainly warm enough and the power showers were great.

One of our party felt that you heard everything through the walls of the master bedroom. It might have been nice to have waste paper baskets in the bedrooms and bathroom but these are VERY minor niggles. The description of the property was good although we were accommodated on the day that we arrived, due to our first choice not having any heating or hot water on our arrival, perhaps that was an “ill wind..”!

It’s a great base for visiting all the must see places Northumberland has to offer. We personally love the beaches at Bamburgh, our dog can run free. • "We had a lovely 7 day family holiday at Eagle Fern with our daughter, son in law, and their dog."

I made contact with the owner prior to our stay and our query was answered quickly (did the property have a bbq - no but welcome to use a disposable). The owner also messaged during our stay to check everything was ok. The property was extremely well equipped, it didnt mention in the description weather cleaning products would be provided so took my own just in case, I didnt need to, hand soap in both bathrooms, kitchen and utility room, enough dishwasher tablets for the week, washing up liquid and tea towels also provided, a small bottle of milk also left in the fridge. We cooked ourselves most nights and had all utensils, pans etc we needed. The beds and bedding were really comfortable. Previous reviews mentioned the hob was difficult to use, we have gas at home but found the hob easy to use once you read the instructions. The property sits in the corner of the site and there was a lovely side grassed area as well as decked area with patio furniture. The views were amazing, Bamburgh Castle in the distance and views of a field to the front with cows, calves, sheep and lambs and watching the wildlife was such an experience, we saw badgers early evening as well as a barn owl every day. The only sounds you hear are wildlife, it is so peaceful. If you do the walk up to the quarry (instructions in welcome pack), I would recommend walking or driving up the lane to the top of the hill and use the gate there as the route from the site was quite overgrown with thistles and nettles, once you get to the top the views are amazing! Would definitely recommend and we would stay again.

3 little logs left for the fire only lasted 40 minutes. We asked for the twin beds to zipped locked together to make a super king as that’s what we have at home and always look for when renting a cottage I was told it would be done it wasnt. The hob is a nightmare trying to cook is impossible. The master bedroom the mattress is so hard. Having stayed at many holiday cottages they alway have a welcome pack not at this one only 1 pint milk left the lodge wasnt cheap to rent especially at this time of year so all in all I wouldn’t recommend you can do a lot better. We left after 3 nights due to some of the above. The Christmas tree well I really don’t know what to say about that apart from why would you place something so pitiful.

Dear Angela Please accept my apologies for the confusion around the request to zip link the beds together. This was our fault and I'm sorry that it caused you and your party additional inconvenience. I'm also disappointed that you didnt stay for the full 4 nights are per your booking. I have taken on board your comments regarding the cleanliness of the kitchen floor and have reiterated the absolute need for high standards with our cleaning company. With regards to the mattress being too hard. I can reassure you that the mattresses are of the highest quality and each mattress has a topper for additional comfort. I'm sorry this didnt meet your expectations but I guess this is down to personal preference. The initial logs for the fire are complimentary and provided to get you started on arrival. I will ask our cleaners to leave out more logs in future. On a final note we are not required to put up Christmas decorations including a tree. However, we do this to make the experience a little more memorable and special for our guests. Once again, I'm sorry your stay wasnt up to your expectations. If you decide to stay with us again then I will personally ensure that your overall experience is much better second time around. Best wishes, Sean. Property Owner

The beds/bedding was very luxurious and comfortable. The settee’s not so comfortable. Our main gripe was the poor quality of the kitchen utensils, we had a whole knife block where not one knife was sharp enough to slice a tomato, spatula’s broken, potato peeler without a blade etc. Not up to the standard of the Lodge. It’s was really well equipped and extremely clean. All the fixtures and fittings were really high quality, lovely bedding and towels. A few negatives, could do with some bins in the bathrooms and the hot water was very hot, might need a bit of a warning. The main draw back for us was the fact you couldn’t really walk to a pub or shop realistically. About the location

BAMBURGH

Seahouses 3.5 miles; Beadnell 5.1 miles; Alnwick 16.9 miles.

The village’s sweeping sandy beaches and dramatic fortress - Bamburgh Castle - make Bamburgh one of Northumberland’s major visitor attractions. The castle can be seen for miles and dominates this part of the county’s coastline. Today it remains home to the family of the great Victorian industrialist Lord Armstrong, and is open to the public on a daily basis. Although overshadowed by the great castle, Bamburgh village is picturesque with neat grey stone cottages facing a manicured village green. There are excellent pubs, hotels with restaurants and a small selection of village shops. There are golf courses in Bamburgh and nearby Seahouses, and within easy reach are more wide sandy beaches, lovely fishing villages, stunning castles and coastal islands to explore along the dramatic Heritage Coast. There are numerous other attractions also a short drive away, including the famous Alnwick Castle and Gardens and the historic walled border town, Berwick-upon-Tweed. A superb base for exploring Northumberland.
