  • "We were there to bring a large extended family together, of all ages, for my father’s 80th birthday, and it was perfect!"

A great week. Incredible scenery surrounding the house (walking; running; and some brought mountain bikes); everyone’s room was comfortable, unique, and special; beautiful garden (we took a croquet set so spent more time in it!); so much to visit in the area (Kelso; Jedburgh; the abbeys; castles esp Floors Castle and for personal reasons Hume Castle; Glenkinchie distillery; day trip on the train Tweedbank to Edinburgh and the Fringe). So peaceful too. We had our concerns brining such a wide and large group of different ages together for so long, but we needn’t had been - it was brilliant, and the birthday boy was very happy. The first time for many of the group to Scotland, and there’s a good chance everyone would be up for repeating this!

  • "Kerry was great."

She was very easy to communicate with and helpful during our stay. We were made to feel very much at home despite it being such a splendid house. We loved the garden especially and made the most of the Al fresco seating arrangements. It was also perfect for relaxing in the evenings and playing games, including marathon chess and pool tournaments! A perfect way to celebrate my husband’s big 60th with friends and family!

  • "We had a great 5 days in the lodge and cottage for my dad's 80th birthday , 4 generations in the house ranging from 9 months to 89 years."

Loads of room for all. Very well equipped, very comfortable. Gardens lovely, specially in the morning watching the pheasants, and hares . Scenery fabulous. Lovely walks and plenty of castles and Country parks to see. House keeper very helpful. There was 20 adults and 6 children under 4 in our party we fitted in no problem at all so thankful we managed to get together from all over Britain.

  • "We had a wonderful time at Greenhill."

Our party consisted of Scottish and American families with an age range between 12 to 78 years and everyone had a great experience. The house is lovely and well equipped. The setting is superb with good walking from the door. We loved watching the hares in the garden in the early morning. We had Lucy from Wilsons farm doing the catering which was a joy. Everyone went home happy with wonderful memories.

  • "A group of 16 of us stayed here for a long weekend away."

We had a great time in the house (hardly left it the whole time!) and the facilities were great. The dining room was particularly appreciated, since we could all fit around the square table and see each other - much more sociable than a long table. The kitchen area is lovely and the cooking facilities were about right for 16 people. We used the pool room a lot and spent time chilling out in the back living room - good to have a TV in there to watch the rugby! The bedrooms are all really nice, some are smaller than others (as stated on the website), but there are plenty of bathrooms available for those rooms without an en suite. As expected from a very remote house, there was no sign of any phone signal or 3G, and while the house has wifi, it only works in some of the rooms. The housekeeper was very friendly and helpful, we were allowed to arrive earlier than the original check-in time, and she even brought us more toilet roll when we ran out! Perhaps it should be emphasised that guests should bring their own toilet roll and handwash etc. - some self catering holiday homes provide these things, so it would be best to clarify this before arriving. We were provided with some toilet roll but ran out after a few days, and the house is very remote, so we would have struggled to go to a shop to get more as it was snowing while we were there. Our only other comments would be that we feel that there should be a warning on the website about the hunting decor. While you can see some of this in the photos, it is quite prominent when you are in the house and definitely not to everyone's taste - we were quite shocked by a few of the photos. Other than that, we had a great time! Great place to come to get away from it all and spend time with friends and family.

  • "What an amazing house."

We had a group of 22, using the house, cottage, and the bothy cottage. All of the rooms were spectacular, with nobody getting a raw deal. The setting is wonderful, with gorgeous walks into the hills from the doorstep. Great local catering options exist that can serve the house (Orde Food Co. were absolutely excellent), and with a little ingenuity we were well able to get 22 round the dining table. Greenhill Lodge is the perfect venue for a weekend get-together for a large group. Facilities were superb, with Janice the extremely friendly and helpful housekeeper on hand to help with anything we needed. Interior decor is amazing- it felt like a private boutique hotel for 22. We'd heartily recommend it, as it was absolutely perfect for our weekend. It would be difficult to think of anything about the house that could have been better.

  • "August 2012 week at Greenhill with a party of adults and children ranging from 4-13."

Fabulous house with the highest quality rooms we've come across over 8 years of big house holidays. Great walled garden, BBQ area and surrounding countryside for walks and cycling. Very helpful housekeeper. The African big game hunting photos may not be to everyone's taste! We survived those and the midges!!

  • "Stayed here in July 2005 and can't describe how fabulous the whole place is."

Every room is different but equally beautiful - this is the first time we have stayed in a house where all bedrooms are of an equivalent standard. It is hard to believe that the owners would be so generous as to share this with others -please thank them for us.

  • "We stayed at Greenhill Lodge Christmas 05, it was a very memorable time."

The house was decorated when we arrived and looked very festive. The house and surroundings are very beautiful. It is quite a walk to the nearest village so a car would be adviseable although the walk is lovely. We attended the local carol service on Christmas eve, which everybody enjoyed and the local people were very friendly and welcoming. The pool table was a hit with my 13 year old son and the videos and games kept my other two children amused. The walks around the grounds were enjoyed by all, we had a fantastic family christmas and feel privileged to have spent time at this very special place.

Second visit - yet again felt so comfortable and at home in this beautiful place that surrounds you with calm. So well equipped and kept to the highest of standards. The area is outstanding also. Thank you again.

  • "Just returned from a short break at Greenhill."

Probably the best and most fabulous place we have ever stayed. Never have I seen a place where each room is of equal standard to all the others. The local scenery is stunning and we all felt very welcome and comfortable. We have stayed in many such places like Greenhills but we all agreed, this one is by far the most superior. Thank you for letting us share your home.

  • "My family and I have just spent a marvellous week at Greenhill."

We have stayed here before a few years ago and my youngest daughter and her fiance got married here last week. What a lovely setting for a wedding ,although the weather was not brilliant ,we didn't let it spoil the day. Anna and Jimmy were married inside the house but we managed to have photographs outside and show off the lovely grounds. The owners had arranged for the gardener to come and make sure everyhting was in order the previous Monday so everything looked beautiful. The house is everything you could wish for, Rooms large enough for everyone to be together but also enough rooms if you need to escape and have peace and quiet. A truly memorable place which will always hold such happy memories. I hope to return with all my family in the not too distant future. My grandchildren 2 two year olds, 3 year old, 4 year old and 5 year old had a wonderful time playing in the gasrden and enjoying the open space and surrounding countryside. Thankyou
