"Both the mattresses and the sofas were so uncomfortable."
My husband and I ended up sleeping in separate beds, and I found it impossible to get out of the sofa - it was like sitting on the floor.
Suggestion - why don't you move the cupboard by the door and put coat hooks there along with some rubber matting so we can actually get in when it's raining? That wouldn't affect the dining room area and would be really practical.
The cottage is so beautiful and the setting is perfect, but these little details spoilt it for us.
We're so pleased to hear you thought the cottage was beautiful and we love Craster too!
We're so sorry you found the bed was uncomfortable, it is a newly purchased mid-firmness John Lewis mattress furthermore there are also two types of sofa/ chair in the living room just to try to work with all guests. There is a small porch outside the front door that you can see in the pictures, but unfortunately this wouldn't be able to cover 8 people on a wet day so your feedback regarding is useful!
We hope you come to visit Craster again, and hopefully it's a little drier next time!

"Cargoes has a simply stunning location."
Sitting in a window with a warm mug of tea (or cold glass of something) is a true blessing. Welcoming and roomy, the cottage has everything you need for a relaxing, casual stay in a cosy coastal village. Right on the harbour, looking out to sea - I only wish I could wake to this for the rest of my life. Lots of beds with fresh linens and towels, ample storage areas and seating places and a fully equipped and large kitchen.
However, there are some areas that need a deep clean - the skirting boards and hard floors all could do with a scrub, especially when little toddler feet are on the tiles getting grubby from the word go. I’m sure it’s just after a hard summer of use and will be addressed during the quieter months.
We had an issue with our supermarket delivery, who couldn’t deliver to us on the arrival night as planned and this left us without any food or drink for that evening or next morning, with a 20 month old. I think it needs to made clearer upon booking and in documentation in the property, that there is now nowhere to buy provisions in the village after 5pm and to bring bits with you. There’s no mobile signal, so you won’t get calls or texts, but there is however, a landline in the cottage and fast Wi-Fi. Also the cafe/deli in the village has closed, so this could do with refreshing in the literature.
We sometimes struggled with parking - in the summer I can see this would be an even bigger issue. It should be made clearer to non-residents that they shouldn’t park along the street and use the village car park, but every day they parked there, blissfully unaware they weren’t abiding by the village rules. The cottage mentions use of a space at the rear, but we couldn’t work out which one it was, others were clearly marked, but no mention of Cargoes or No. 11’s space, so again, this needs addressing and making more direct.
Other than that - dreamy. Book Cargoes even with these little niggles and I can assure you, you’ll have one of the best located properties in Northumberland and like us, will long to return.
Thank you for such kind feedback, we're so pleased you'd a dreamy holiday!
Just to address one of your points there's now a new telephone mast which will give full mobile service for all networks this year.
Secondly thank you for the feedback regarding parking, we've put up a sign in the rear parking so hopefully it should be clear where to go and if there are any issues gives Northumberia Coast and Country a call.
We're obviously biased but are so pleased you found it one of the best located properties in Northumberland, we're so proud of it, thank you!

"This is a beautiful cottage in a beautiful location."
Our poor score is aimed at the letting agent Northumbria Cottage and here’s why.
So we’re paying £2k to stay here for a week.
When we arrived all the bins at the back were overflowing. Yes of course the cottage information has a line ( buried in pages of other information) about bin day. A lot of the stuff was from a hen party who’d clearly rented it before us . There was a ballon left inside too. What a horrible site and how awful for neighbours. We contacted the letting agency by email . As it was Friday afternoon we got no answer. On the Monday we sorted the rubbish and recycled what we could locally (glass). The remainder has to be driven to the nearest top (an hours round trip).
I didn’t get a reply to my email till mid the following week. The tawdry delay was said to be because the email was in my name and not my husband’s name who booked it. I’d identified the property. They could have checked the name on the system and replied to him! It simply said it was a nuisance when people don’t t put the bibs out. How rude? Northumbria Cottages will charge a fortune to the owners. It should be part of the clean up/:management of the property to deal with ignored rubbish.
We also requested a high chair which wasn’t put out. We found it eventually but we’d arrived after a six hour journey with a five month baby who needed feeding! The WiFi was also disconnected? That took longer to locate. Northumbria Cottages suggested thé previous occupants must have done that … as if! The latter points are minor. The rubbish situation and the lack of an appropriate response is what prompted the poor review.
The bed linen was immaculate and the kitchen very well equipped.
Northumbria Cottages are lazy and not customer focussed. You should refund part of the hefty price tag.
To the owners we say find another letting agency.
Thank you for your feedback and we're so pleased you found Cargoes was a beautiful cottage in a beautiful location.
We are so sorry to read about your experience with the managing agent and we've contacted them directly to discuss what happened.
Following on from this we've taken additional steps to ensure the cleaning is done to a high standard such as additional supervisor cleaning inspections.
We believe the brand has reached out to you to try and understand how they can improve on some of the things that you had asked for eg now they'll ensure a high chair is left out instead of you having to get this from the cupboard and confusion about the email address to use.
We're keen that the cottage we love and are very proud of is somewhere you or anyone else can have a wonderful holiday!

"Our only worry was the long step between the dining room and the sitting room !"
Several near 'trips ' ! Maybe a line along the edge or some sort of indicator that there is a step there .Otherwise a fantastic position and lovely warm cottage. One of the best out of a lot of years of booking in various parts of the Northumbrian Coast through NCCC who are excellent !
We’re so pleased you found Cargoes was one of the best NCCC cottages you’ve visited. We’re very proud of its position on the coast and views out to sea and hope you come again to enjoy the beautiful village of Craster.

"We really enjoyed our stay at Cargoes."
Beautiful location. The house was clean and tidy and plenty big enough for 8 people. Great place to stay if you like walking. Stunning beaches, castles and plenty of towns and villages to visit. Or just want a good pub on the doorstep. My family and I would love to stop here again.
We’re delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay, there really is so much to do on the Northumberland coast. We’d love you to come back in the Spring or Summer when the flowers are out in the front garden to enjoy a different side of Cargoes and Craster.

"The tick box nature of feedback does not really cover the property."
It is a lovely cottage good beds, fantastic location, an ideal Summer base.
We spent two weeks covering a very cold Christmas period.......not the properties fault!
Unfortunately not having a carving fork, carving plate, starter and pudding plates, no mini mixer for cakes or cream or indeed baking equipment. , (although there was a hand whisk.)..made home cooking a extremely difficult task.it did not help that the letter box situated directly behind the dinning table can not be closed....the cold and wind were to put it mildly ,very uncomfortable
On a positive note the Jolly Fisherman is a warm haven supplying a good menu on the doorstep do to speak.
I would reiterated the merits of the cottage, it is a lovely well arranged cottage in a beautiful location.
Northumberland Cottages dealt speedily and brilliantly with a couple of maintainance issues..
We’re so pleased you enjoyed your Christmas stay at Cargoes on the beautiful Northumberland coast.
We’ve listened to your helpful feedback and installed a draught excluder over the letter box.
We’d love you to visit again, we think Craster is delightful whatever the season!

"We have just had a lovely stay in your beautiful property, a real home from home."
I loved the little touches with the decor. Bedrooms were spacious and comfortable and bathrooms were great. Fabulous kitchen with everything you could want and lovely dining area for cosy family meals and on top of all that we used the garden daily it was such a relaxing area to sit for breakfast or drinks in the evening. Thank you , would definitely return.

"Loved the location and the house was big, spacious and perfect for children."
Could definitely have been cleaner and better maintained though. Gave the kids a bath on the first night but didn’t repeat as it was very hard to get the plug out. The mechanism had clearly been broken for ages. The middle shower was too annoying to use as the button was broken. Kitchen taps worryingly loose. Broken shelf in the fridge. Damp clearly a problem on top floor & plaster crumbling off around skylights. Lack of access to vacuum meant we couldn’t easily get rid of that, the numerous dead wood lice (resorted to dustpan & brush) or the dog hair that had been left over from previous guests, which wasn’t great for my 8 year old who struggles with numerous environmental allergies. Had had such problems contacting company on previous occasions that it didn’t seem worth bothering. Despite all the minor annoyances, we had a great week and would probably book again - bringing a vacuum with us & hoping that some of the issues had been fixed!
Thank you for your feedback we are delighted to hear that you have enjoyed your stay and would look to come back. Regarding the points you have raised in respect of cleaning and maintenance, we have highlighted those issues to the team at Northumbria Coast and Country Cottages and they are getting those issues fixed. We'd love you to visit Cargoes again and enjoy the Northumberland Coast.

"Cargoes was a lovely place to stay in Craster."
The cottage and facilities were very homely and the view was amazing looking out onto the sea!
There was seven adults and a one year old and nobody got under anyone’s feet . Plenty of room for cooking, dining and relaxing.
All in all a cosy place to stay. Would return again.
We only had a small issue when we arrived there and it was where to park?
There was a diagram but we couldn’t figure it out as it was too dark to see?
I rang Sykes and a lovely man called Fred who was very helpful e-mailed me a new diagram which was much clearer and all was solved . Fred even rang me back after half an hour to make sure that we had sorted it.
Thank you Fred . Good customer service

"What a lovely and well-appointed cottage."
We loved everything about it from the interior design, the quality of all the fixtures and fittings, and the warm feeling we got from the first step we took inside. There was even milk and tea/coffee waiting for us. These touches DO make a difference! And then there's the location, right on the harbour with the private little garden where we ate our breakfast every morning. The calming sound of the waves breaking as you slip into be...perfect! Will come again.
