  • "Apple Orchard House is in a good position, close to Alnmouth with beautiful views overlooking the beach and sea."

Very comfortable accommodation, good sized rooms and homely. Disappointing to find no toilet rolls had been left for us, nor washing up cloths/sponges. We loved sitting outside in the small garden to look at the beautiful view. The sitting area does need tidying up, weeds around our feet. The grass area needed a mow too. It would be good to have a proper table and chairs to sit around rather than a picnic table. The garden was enclosed which was very good for our young dog. So positives and negatives for us. Overall though, a very enjoyable stay in a beautiful area.

  • "I should say first of all, that the property is well placed for exploring the coast, being within a short drive of Warkworth, Amble, Alnmouth and Seahouses."

However, the property itself was extremely disappointing. Anyone who chooses to stay at the property must consider taking pretty much everything one might need at home including towels, soap, detergent and toilet rolls. We were left with one toilet roll for a property that sleeps 6, some ice cubes, and a half pint of milk that had gone off. The front door was difficult to lock and unlock from the inside and so, in the end, we had to leave it unlocked. The TV did not work because the aerial connection was loose, there was no light working in the bathroom upstairs bathroom (and no spare bulb), and there was an unpleasant odour from the washing machine. Considering the number of cobwebs in the property, we were left with the impression that the property had been moth-balled from last summer. There are stunning views from the property but the garden area outside was a little untidy and overgrown. The property certainly did not offer value for money.

  • "After staying here before we were excited to return."

However we were really upset to find the cottage filthy. It looked like it hadn’t been cleaned at all. The surfaces were all dusty and dirty, there was rubbish left in the bins from the previous tenants. The floor hadn’t been vacuumed and there was dog hair all over the sofas that ended up on our clothes. Even the bedding was crinkled up and we weren’t sure whether the sheets had been changed. We contacted the company to complain and they said they would send someone to bring over a vacuum and clean, however there was no contact after that and nobody ever showed up. My step mum was very upset as she had spent the days prior to the holiday deep cleaning her own house - to then arrive at Apple Orchard and start cleaning again. Very poor service with no help or care at all from the company responsible. Do not stay here. We would like to be compensated for this.

  • "Long history on your file for this property regarding our Feb stay."

Lack of hot water was sorted by Stu during his courtesy visit, thank you. As there was so much attention needed to this property especially the soiled mattresses I feel the owner should be prepared to compensate us.

  • "After finally finding the property,up a long dark bumpy farm track, very hard to find as no house signs ,and lots of other properties being so difficult to find as there was no lights We were very impressed when entering the semi detached old farm house , very quaint and oldy worldy , log burner but nice feature Steel spiral staircase quaint to go up to bedroom."

beautiful views down to the sea approx mile to walk mind ..... We were determined to have a lovely new year here as my wife just recovering from breast cancer, we soon got the heating working and we're lovely and cosey , however it ended there as there was no hot water and no one we could get hold of to fix , we had to boil kettles of water to wash up etc No bath no shower for three days Dispite ringing Sykes on numerous occasions to find out why ........ No help very poor service , a call from the owners would be nice to explain ??? There was five adults non of us could get HOT WATER , so annoying spoilt what could of been a lovely much needed break . We never complain and like to give credit where due , but sorry the hot water episode spoilt it for all of us

  • "A sign at the gate or near the grass to indicate where the house is would really help & more light leading to the house on the grass or near the gate or generally near the house to light up where it is otherwise it is very difficult to find in the dark."

I took a torch with me as indicated on the instructions for arriving but this wasn’t enough.

  • "Lovely property with stunning sea views in an exceptional rural location."

Other reviews have mentioned slow internet and poor water pressure which is definitely true but did not in any way spoil our holiday. However, the cleanliness was not of a high standard and it felt like the house had only been surface cleaned especially after dropping something and looking under the sofas! The fridge and freezer were a little bit problematic but the clothes pulley was great for airing and drying clothing. Overall,a great house which need some TLC but sadly we would not return again next year.

  • "This is the 2nd time we have stayed at the cottage which has wonderful sea views and is in a lovely location and we very happy to rebook, sadly the cleanliness standard as fallen, the cobwebs were numerous in all rooms, the windows needed a clean and there appeared to be mouse dropping beside the tv unit with the mouse responsible paying us a visit on our last evening there."

We would love to revisit if these problems were sorted out and would also recommend improved water pressure, Wi-Fi and smart tv.

  • "The property lacks a dishwasher sadly which in a house for 6 people, I feel , is a must."

This meant that lots of the plates , glasses , cups and particularly oven trays were not very clean. The oven itself was very greasy inside which meant that it smoked and smelt. I did leave a note about this. There is nowhere to dry washing ( no line outside or airer to drape clothes onto) . There is a small pulley clothes airer in the kitchen suitable for light use but meant that everything had a kitchen smell. The other main issue is that if taps are being used downstairs , or washing machine is on , or toilets are flushed, you cannot use the bathroom facilities upstairs, not even to wash your hands as no water runs ! Again , in a house for six people, this is not acceptable. The position of the house and the views are amazing and more than made up for the issues mentioned. We had a wonderful time , thank you. We felt the property was good for a family of four but not 6 adults sharing the facilities.

Cleanliness dreadful. Views amazing. Conversion also fabulous.

Thank you for your feedback, we have been unable to find any details regarding the property being incorrectly described, the property is not detached and website photos do show this, it is unfortunate that you have thought this was a detached property. Property Owner

For example no towels provided (most places do this), no dishwasher, TV very old and remotes not working (batteries need checking), fridge and freezer need replacing (ruined a lot of food we brought) … for the price we paid, I’d expect more!
