We stayed as a family of 3, 2 adults and a child age 7. The owner met us to give us the keys and show us around he was a lovely man and was happy to answer any questions we had. The cottage is over 3 floors, ground floor with entrance lobby, garage and utility space with washer, dryer & ironing facility’s. 1st floor with landing, double bedroom, twin bedroom both with wall mounted TVs and the family bathroom. 2nd floor is the living dining and Kitchen area. On the 2nd floor you have the floor to ceiling windows with a beautiful view overlooking the River. There is sky TV at the property and a great WI-FI connection that covers you on all 3 floors. The property has everything you will need for your stay and more. Location you couldn’t get any better as you are in the heart of Morpeth itself with the shop, restaurants, takeaways, bars and not forgetting Carlisle Park on your doorstep. If you want to go further a field then you are also approx 5 minute drive to the A1 with the whole of Northumberland to explore. Personal recommendations: Morpeth Tandoor takeaway an award winning takeaway and when you take the food you will understand why they have won so many awards. Nikos Taverna bringing Greece to Morpeth the food is delicious & the staff are so friendly then finally the auction house bar for their out of this world biscotti cocktails. Overall we loved our time at River Cottage and would definitely stay there again.

As our car would have been a tight fit we didn't use the garage as plenty of car parks within walking distance. Morpeth has plenty of shops and restaurants and an ideal place for touring Northumberland. Abdul was very friendly and helpful.

  • "Fantastic cottage and location!"

Arguably the best location in Morpeth. The garage will only fit really small cars but there is a 24-hr car park 3 minutes away at Goose Hill, and shorter term car parks directly behind the cottage. We will definitely be back!

  • "Fantastic property with beautiful views over the river through the full length window, lovely to sit with a morning coffee looking out whilst you wake up."

Garage was a little tricky but we could just fit our Dacia Duster in, this was a big plus for us. Easy to get in and out of town and only 30 seconds walk from the best pub in town (The Office), 30 seconds from the Morpeth Tandoori (highly recommended) and a minute from the High St with all the shops, bars and restaurants. A great base to explore Northumberland from, the bus station was a 5 minute walk if you didn't want to drive. Lovely furnishings, very clean, comfortable beds, high spec, everything you would need plus a very nice and helpful landlord Abdul. I almost didn't choose this property because it said the main bed was a double (I even rang Sykes who confirmed this) but it is a king size bed (my preference) so this needs updating! We are planning a return visit next year, so that says it all.

We had a great welcome from the owner and he made sure all was OK when we saw him during the week. There was no trouble with parking our saloon car, it just needs a bit of care! It felt very luxurious, clean and comfortable. Abdul has done an exceptional job in making a town centre holiday cottage a very desirable place to stay. Our 5 year old was very excited to have a TV in her own room. All I would say is, make sure your car fits in the garage before you set off, our Golf estate only just fit, but with a little practice, parking got easier as the holiday progressed. Decor was fab but we would also suggest having less ornaments on show as this would help the owner to clean easier and would also reduce the chance of breakages.

Despite the pandemic all of the shops seem to be thriving. It was is a three minute walk to Marks and Spencer so we were able to stock up with food. Morrisons and Lidl are also located in the town. There are a number of beautiful walks to be had from the cottage; we enjoyed walking along the banks of the River Wansbeck and through Carlisle Park. Lots of history on the doorstep. River Cottage is well appointed and is quite luxurious and had everything we needed. There was bottle of wine, fruit juice, chocolates, milk and fresh flowers provided the owner, Abdul, as a welcome which was much appreciated. Abdul greeted us warmly and is very helpful and friendly person. He owns and runs the Morpeth Tandoori take away close by. We enjoyed some delicious meals from there. The ground floor comprises a garage with a utility area. The garage was large enough to accommodate our Volkswagen Passat Estate Car with careful manoeuvring. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning.

The owner Abdul was very friendly and helpful, and was available if you had any issues. The cottage is in the middle of town but does have its own parking. It is a two minute walk into town with all the restaurants and shops on your doorstep. Inside the cottage the furnishings are excellent with many beautiful and unusual ornaments which add to the character of the cottage. Bedding and all soft furnishings are of a very top quality. It was spotlessly clean which I’m always very picky about but I couldn’t find any fault at all. We had a throughly enjoyable week here exploring Northumberland which my husbands loves as this was his birth place. The garage was fine for our small car but it is tight. Historic buildings do have drawbacks. Public parking is all around and very cheap. When we reported a problem with the WiFi it was sorted in a couple of hours: you can’t ask for better than that! There was four of us and we enjoyed the loft style living in a great, very comfortable conversion, praise to Abdul for tenacity in making this effort which is apparent when we read the story and saw the pictures. Our car was a little too big for the garage, but we simply parked across the front of the garage door. For anyone who likes curries there is the Morpeth Tandoori within 100 yards of the cottage and it serves really outstandingly good Indian food. The cottage itself has recently been completely renovated to a very high standard and is well equipped throughout with a spacious kitchen area with every facility that one could want. There is a similarly well appointed bath/shower room. All furniture throughout the cottage is new and of a good quality and the owner has clearly given thought to every need that the visitor might have. The internal garage is an added bonus and is clean, well lit and spacious and opened by an electric roller door, allowing parking with great security.
