  • "Absolutely stunning property and location."

Tranquil, surrounded by open views and grazing farmlands. Also excellent pub not far, history on the doorstep of the four Great border Abbeys, and Mary Queen of Scots museum a must visit for all in Jedburgh. Would love to come and stay again, reading in front of a warm logburner ,and walking in the beauty of Scotland. Only concern was the outside is not that secure so dogs had to be on longleads outside property. But we are used to that. One of the best places to stay in comfort and calm, Thank you!

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Kirknowe."

Such a comfortable and well-equipped place to relax, with stunning views from every window. The outside area is large and was secure for our Labrador - he loved it too! Fantastic base to explore the Borders area and further afield. We've booked again for next year!

It is very comfortable in every way and we lacked for nothing. The area is beautiful and the walks are many and varied. The border towns and villages are picturesque. All in all a very good holiday. We will definitely go back there.

A wonderful base to explore from and also to stay and chill . Seeing the barn owls every night was magical . Cleanliness could be better but it really doesn't detract from this great place .wardrobes in the main bedroom would be handy . The welcome scones and flowers and milk is a lovely touch and we truly loved our stay thankyou :)

  • "We found this property a very relaxing and comfortable place, exactly what we needed with beautiful views."

It was nice to see the farm animals all around us along with the wildlife, kestrels, bats, owls, house martins, absolutely fabulous. Ideal location this time for us to go and see the places we didn't get to last year. Found the Horse and Hound pub down the road provided us with lovely food and very polite staff.

  • "What a super cottage."

Set out on its own and over looking farm land on some sides and looking down on the small village. Cattle and sheep with a couple of horses were grazing in the fields around the cottage. The cottage and its facilities met and in parts surpassed our needs. It’s location achieved our desire to be remote and away from madding crowds. We enjoyed our time sitting outside taking in the landscape. It was inviting to listen and take in the silence occasionally broken by the wildlife and farm animals.. It had its quirks but none impacted on our stay. When we left we felt very chilled and relaxed and concluded what more could you ask of a holiday base. And yes we will return..

Extremely comfortable and well equipped it is the perfect place to relax and rest. Warm, very well furnished and equipped it is the best property we have stayed in over many years. The location is private but yet there is a pub 10 minutes walk away. This former Monk's retreat is highly recommended!

  • "We had a wonderful week at Kirknowe."

From the moment we arrived we felt right at home. The seating is comfortable, as was the bed although we only used the downstairs bedroom. It may have been a bit dusty in places but you can’t expect to stay in a big house on the top of a hill surrounded with only animals for neighbours to be spotless. We spent hours watching the lambs playing about in the field outside the gate, the horses were always happy to see you and especially if they got a stroke and the cows would often come to the far side of the garden to peer over the wall to see what was going on. There was a swallow’s nest above what was once the front door and watching the young ones come and go was amazing because we could see them out of the window but they couldn’t see in. Add to that the barn owl that swooped silently at night and add to that we were there when the aurora borealis put in an appearance our stay was almost perfect. There are a few internal steps from kitchen to bathroom and bedrooms and the carpet in the hallway needs refitting as there’s a bit of a ruck in it and the vinyl flooring in the bathroom where the shower is could do with sorting out. That being said we can’t wait to go back!

  • "We loved our stay at Kirknowe."

Its is much better than shown on the website and is a very large property. The scones and beautiful tulips were a very lovely welcome as was the milk in the fridge. The beds are super comfy and the lounge - well what can I say its majestic. My favourite place of all was the window seat in the kitchen where I seem to have spent most of my time..... wonderful view and so very snuggly. Wood was there when we arrived, unfortunately the lighter was out of gas but we bought some matches so all good (we have left them for the next guest). Wood is available at a very good price and we partook of this twice. House was lovely and warm as was the hot water when we figured out how to turn it up (might be worth having an info sheet in the welcome pack). All in all a wonderful relaxing and chilled week and we cannot wait to return! Highly recommend!

  • "Just got back from a wonderful week in our home from home cottage."

The location was perfect, with the owners allowing us to roam across the farm fields (our dogs are very good at not trying to interact with farm animals) but had a secure area for them to explore. Happy pups! The accommodation was beautiful, cosy and so well equipped for all our needs and more! Hot scones delivered as a treat on day one was a lovely touch and plenty of wood was available after the welcome fire pack ran out, plus it was such a good price, we loved the fire on especially due to the weather. All in all, we cannot wait to go back...this gem of a cottage was truly a wonderful week!

  • "We had a lovely stay at Kirknowe."

Home from home comforts. Beds are ridiculously comfy!! Very tempted to snaffle one and bring it home!! The cheese scones, milk and flowers were greatly appreciated!! The under floor heating was a god send on the cold rainy days!! There were a few things that we felt let the property down. The WiFi is horrendous, it only reaches half of the property. A booster would be beneficial we think. Also the cleanliness of the place was slightly lacking. Lots of dust and cobwebs. Understand its a rural place and some cobwebs are acceptable, especially on the high rafters but easy to reach ones weren't acceptable. Overall a lovely stay. Thank you

Please note, it is in Roxburghshire, not Northumberland. It has all you need for a self-catering holiday, and there are wonderful views all around. The Scottish Borders is a great area for it's rich history and towns, scenery and walking trails.

  • "A beautiful property in wonderful surroundings."

Let down slightly on arrival as the cleaning service had left areas of the kitchen dirty. We may have misinterpreted the description but had expected the garden to be secure for dogs and fenced without having to accompany them all the time as the cows were right on the doorstep. We really appreciated the milk, flowers, honey and scones on arrival, also the underfloor heating. The bed was very comfy, the shower was great and the property had all other facilities we needed for a very enjoyable stay. Thank you.

The cottage was well equipped and as listed, so we enjoyed our stay. However it was nowhere near as clean as we would have liked - lots of cobwebs and pet hair made it feel either neglected or like it hadn’t had a deep clean in a while.

  • "Kirknowe is a gem!"

From the moment we entered the property we could feel ourselves start to unwind. Evenings spent in front of the fire watching TV, reading and playing cards was so relaxing. Having a separate "wing" for our son was a bonus. It was a great base for exploring sites and there were so many walks just outside the door and a short driving distance away. We didn't want to leave and if it was available, we would have immediately extended our stay. We will most definitely be back!
