  • "Repeat visit to The Granary for us."

As before arrived to a clean comfortable and weel equipped cottage. Kitchen is superb, large and well equipped, nice arrival package left for us. Good internet connection and full sky package available to utilise. Bedrooms comfy. Owners are on site and always extremely pleasant and approachable, but never imposing. Lovely walks around the village for the dogs, or of course the wonderful Northumberland coast is ten minutes drive away. Some nice English Heritage properties around if you have membership. Can't fault the property.

  • "A lovely cottage with everything you need for a comfortable and relaxing stay."

The owners were welcoming but also gave you privacy. Excellent quiet location and easy to get to local town centres. The thoughtful Welcome gifts were much appreciated. Everything that you could possibly need for comfortable stay was there and was of good quality. This property was a perfect base to explore Northumberland with many National Trust and English Heritage properties within easy drive. We really liked the courtyard at the back of the property which was a delightful spot for sitting out when the sun shone. I would highly recommend this property. Cliff

  • "Overall we were happy with the property and our brief stay."

It was easy to get in and out, keys via keybox. A few things left us with a feeling that it could have been an even better experience. And so in that spirit, I've typed a few things: We loved the kitchen, well equipped, with a large table, a great gathering space. The rooms were clean and the beds comfy. The lounge chairs and sofa also comfy although it is a little dingy in that lounge room and the lights are the excessively bright white LED ones which glare. They don't suit the fittings. Warm white lamps and covers to shield the glare would change things easily and make the room feel more comfortable.. It felt like good value - a nice place to stay for the fee paid. The location overall is good for exploring the area - Morpeth has most things and 10 mins away. The village itself doesn't have much but ok for short walks. Now the things that made it less than 'amazing': 1) The stairs, which others have mentioned, are quite steep and 'short' as in it's best to walk with feet pointing sideways when going up and down them. They are not carpeted, but wooden, slightly polished, which in socks (we left our shoes at the back door, we don't wear shoes inside) made us cautious walking down them. I imagine anyone less steady on their feet might also be wary. A photo of these would be helpful before booking. 2) Shortly after arriving we (the kids and I) went shopping, leaving my wife and the dog in the house. When we came back my wife told me that she was surprised to see the owner, who lives in the building next door (which we didn't realise is joined to this property via a glass door with a curtain across it). - who had knocked, unlocked the glass door and walked into the property. To 'reset the electrics' or something. Ok, fair enough, but use the front door maybe? As guests / visitors would. There is actually access from both sides of the property via glass doors with curtains behind (locked normally and with a 'closed' sign hanging on the door0 and this was not something we noticed from the original description. We didn't feel we had the place to ourselves because of this. To be honest, this one event really freaked out our teenage daughter who then insisted on checking the doors and cupboards before bed each night. I think photos of the connecting doors and an explanation in the description would have cleared this up. The connecting doors are not soundproof - there are gaps around the sides and floor and the curtain is drawn across on the opposite side - as in we couldn't add privacy ourselves. This was probably the biggest downside for us. Partly just because the photos / description didn't show it. 3) then there were some minor annoyances. The shower head doesn't sit in the holder unless completely vertical. If angled to shower, it falls out. of the holder. The extractor fan doesn't work. The 2nd toilet is downstairs and in a very small space - not upstairs where we thought it was as part of an ensuite (maybe we just missed this in the description). When we arrived, the toaster still had crumbs on it from the previous visitors. And the microwave had splatter on the inside of the door. Everything else was clean. So as I say, overall we were satisfied, and we really liked spending time in the kitchen, there were just a few things that took the shine off ithe stay and that we had not picked up / read in the description. So the above is said in the spirit of improving the experience for others.

Thank you for your feedback. Just to clarify I knocked on the front door and was let in. After resetting the electrical switch I was shown out of the front door. The rooms behind the glass doors are unoccupied rooms and are only accessible by us the owners. The shower works perfectly so not sure what the problem was. Property Owner

  • "We were not happy with the staircase which was not shown or described."

It is steep and wooden with narrow treads and inadequate handrail. Similarly the steps down to the front door, one step is at least 11inches high with no handrail. My husband and I are both 80 and I would not have booked this property if I had been aware of these issues

Thank you for your feedback. I will state that the stair treads are within UK building regulation requirements. The outside step mentioned is 8 inches to the step below it. The step down in clearly mentioned in the property description Property Owner

Enclosed courtyard shared with other rental. Good facilities, everything catered for. Easy access to Morpeth pubs, restaurants, shopping. Short drive to coast. Loved the ticking grandfather clock, very relaxing. Dark wood panelling and floors in living room - lighting could be improved with some reading lights. Overall a good find.

Lovely property, peaceful location, plenty of secure parking. The property itself is full of character, spotlessly clean and extremely well equipped especially the kitchen. Beds very comfy and nice bath and shower in the bathroom. For those that bring furry friends, plenty of walks close by and the beach is just ten mins drive. Property owners were close by and available to assist with any queries. Never intrusive but there if needed. Excellent stay, and would return and recommend.

The beds were nice and comfy and we liked the garden area. The only negative I have was there was so much dog hair on the kitchen chair covers from previous guests that we couldn’t use the dining table to eat but it didn’t put a dampener on things. Overall a lovely quiet holiday and I would definitely recommend the granary to others.

  • "We loved the location and the high standard of fittings in our cottage."

Cleanliness was second to none also. We only used one of the 3bedrooms available . Biggest flaw was the heating throughout. It never did get warm enough where we needed it and it went off during the day which was not good as my wife spent most of her time in the cottage as she has disabilities. The staircase was too steep unfortunately for her also ,however ,it has not meant we would not consider a different cottage which would need to be all on one level such as a bungalow . The beds were comfortable and we enjoyed having Sky, so could watch a favourite show of ours. However, the house was a bit too cold for us which affected our comfort. The location was good and the gardens well tended.

They loved the Granary. It was a typical country style cottage and the rooms were very spacious. Furnished beautifully with all homely comforts and utilities. The pictures on the site don't do it justice but I can assure anyone booking this holiday cottage, they won't be disappointed. Parking was good too and the location is perfect in a quiet village with a short drive to the beautiful town of Morpeth.
