  • "Southmead is a spacious, comfy bungalow in a quiet cul de sac, very close to Amble."

It has a well equipped kitchen and a super safe back garden. Its location is near to a supermarket and handy for a visit to Duridge Bay nature reserve. It is also very dog friendly and worthy of many visits.

  • "This was a brilliant property - extremely comfortable, clean & well-equipped."

The enclosed garden was ideal for our dog and it was very convenient for Amble & surrounding areas. We have visited this area for many years, and this bungalow was the best ever! We shall certainly return.

Well equipped . Nice location . Plenty of parking space . Our only grumble would be to change the opening direction of the fridge door. Apart from that lovely a place .

  • "We enjoyed our stay at south mead owing to it being in a quiet residential area and has a good bus service close by which means you can still get to other places without the need to use the car if you wish to do so,the property is a modern build with all the facilities that you require for an enjoyable break."

there is only one small criticism and that is we found settees a little on the firm side for us it just shows you cannot please all the people all of the time. yes we will book again in the future.

  • "Our third visit to this property and not the last as we love it here."

Great location and always feel really chilled out. It has plenty to offer and is always clean and welcoming. We usually park up for most of the week and jump on the bus to get about. Was going to look at staying later in the year again but may not be possible as it is already quite full.

  • "Well located, nice and quiet, good parking."

Comfortably furnished, bit lacking in detail on WIFI, how to use TV etc. Generally very clean, but both cutlery drawers needed a clean out, and previous occupants hadn't left plates and saucepans very clean. Top of the fridge needs a good clean! Overall very happy and would use the property again.

Fantastic large Tv, excellent facilities and safe and secure enclosed garden. Comfy beds and sofas and excellent showers. Overall, a well maintained property with extensive well thought out facilities in a cracking location.

Excellent location for local amenities and access to coastal walks and cycle routes. The large garage was a bonus for bike storage. Will definitely re-book in the future.

  • "We had a lovely stay at Southmead and the weather was quite kind to us."

We did have a problem with the front door handle/lock but reported this immediately to the owner who agreed to sort this out as soon as possible. The owner was very helpful. As we were leaving the following day this was not a problem to us. Only thing missing from this extremely well equipped property was a small sharp knife, other wise we could not fault this property and will hopefully be returning again in the future.

  • "We really enjoyed our stay at 20 Southmead."

It is in a quiet housing estate and the supermarket and petrol station are round the corner at the big roundabout. The property is all on one level and very light and airy. The outside decking was lovely to sit out on and the beds were all very comfy. Very well equipped with instructions books all provided and folder of useful information. A great base to view Northumberland!

Kitchen was well supplied. Rooms comfortable. Really liked having a separate lounge & dining area. However the second bedroom double was very small. We were able to access TV and few filns through Sky box but most of Netflix & Amazon was not available as needed account to pay.

  • "We had a lovely stay at 20 Southmead."

The owners were very thoughtful regarding equipment for my 8 month old granddaughter. The lounge was very spacious as was the garden and it was very handy to be able to use the garage too. Although the kitchen had plenty of crockery for all of us there were a couple of things that I feel are a must for a self catering property. There was no bottle opener, grill pan or roasting tray. Although there were a couple of oven dishes it wasn't enough for cooking for 6. Also the mattress in the small bedroom really does need either replacing or a thick mattress topper needs to be added as my mum had a dreadful sleep in there until we turned the mattress.

  • "Car parking was excellent because we had three cars, and the house was spacious and light."

The kitchen was very well equipped and clean. However, the mattresses in bedrooms 2 and 3 were not at all comfortable, in fact three adults left a day early.

  • "We absolutely loved our stay here."

We were a little worried after seeing the previous review and although there may have been little niggles we were very impressed. Our friends had the main bedroom with ensuite as they have not been too well lately. We used the single beds which we found very firm but after a couple of nights we got a little more used to them! We also found the sofas uncomfortable but they were certainly not fragile. The kitchen is well equipped and bright - slow cooker would have been a nice touch but would welcome a different tin opener as the other was difficult to use. Once we spotted the missing top we managed eventually. Very impressed with the quality of the pans and will now be buying some of them myself. The main bathroom was lovely and spacious and very bright. The left tap was a little loose but otherwise okay and the door lock needs a screw putting in it as it fell off but did work okay. You could see it was a new shower. The garden was boggy but is expected at this time of year. Our friends managed to sit out one day and enjoyed it. Look forward to seeing the garden in the future. Regarding noise - it was very quiet and peaceful. The flooring was not an issue at all and was a welcome change from vacuuming carpets. We are looking at staying later in the year but this depends on hospital appointments. We will certainly be back at some time though. We were all so impressed with the place that we felt as though we could live there. Thank you.

  • "We have stayed at many Sykes properties."

This is the first we have been disappointed in. We chose this property for the easy access and bedrooms all on one level due to a couple of people with limited mobility. The property was clean and tidy However, the fixtures and fittings, including the taps in the bathrooms were tired and loose. The showers are of poor quality and most likely will break in the future. It all needs a little maintenance. The shower heads were obviously of a lower quality and most likely will not stand the test of time. The lounge furniture was very uncomfortable and will not withstand a family if they were to use this property as a base. We were very careful, knowing that the furniture is fragile and if to break we would be liable to pay for any damage. Most of us return home with lower back pain. The dining room was lovely, beautiful dining table and chairs and flooring superb. However, the rest of the property had cushion floor which therefore made it very noisy when people were moving about. The garden was untidy compared to all the other bungalows in the area. The grass area at the rear of the property, had 6 inches of water where the washing line was, which was broken and we were unable to use. There was no visitors book to see others opinions or for us to leave comments. There was no instruction at the property where to leave laundry on leaving which we placed in the bathroom. The actual place of Amble is beautiful and a good place for visiting many attractions in the area we enjoyed a week in Northumberland however we would not choose this particular bungalow to return to in the future. I did take pictures when we first arrived of all the rooms and again on leaving, ensuring it was left the way we found the property with no damage. I feel this property if upgraded could be a very good rental and a good central place for visiting all the other attractions. There is a Sunday market at the harbour once a week which was lovely. However, we would not have known this as there is no information in the bungalow. We can recommend the Chinese takeaway which was very good large portions and delivered very quickly. The local cafés were also lovely and welcoming and served delicious food at reasonable prices . Our favourite castles to visit Were at Alnwick and Banburgh and if you love books, go to the bookshop in Alnwick, you can spend hours there. There are many lovely walks in the area for all types of walkers. We look forward to visiting Northumberland again in the future. However, it will not be at this property.

Thank you for your feedback which we welcome as we are new to holiday lets having started only last September. We are sorry you were disappointed with our property which was completely refurbished last year. The e n-suite bathroom was completely refitted with new shower, wall and floor tiles. A new shower was also fitted to the main bathroom. The furniture is all new mainly from M&S and has a lengthy guarantee. It is designed to withstand any normal family use. There are 6 high backed upholstered chairs (2 carvers) in the dining room which may be suitable for guests with back problems. We have fitted engineered hardwood flooring (not cushion floor) throughout for cleanliness as we cater for guests and their dogs.. The garden is an ongoing project which we are intending to improve. Unfortunately we are all at the mercy of the weather, we have had an exceptionally wet spell lately. The washing line is being moved to the paved area of the garden. However we have now added a Visitor's Book, laundry bags, local information and brochures to the property as we wish our guests to enjoy their holidays. Property Owner

About the location

AMBLE

Warkworth 1 mile; Alnmouth 4 miles.

The bustling little seaport of Amble is situated at the mouth of the River Coquet and is an ideal place for exploring Northumberland. Historically a centre for boatbuilding, Amble offers a marina, a harbour, sandy beaches and coastal walks to the bird sanctuary at Hauxley and country park at Druridge Bay. Large fishing boats moor along the harbour wall and land a variety of fish, prawns, crabs and lobsters. There is a fish centre on the side of the harbour that is now primarily a shell fish hatchery to re-stock levels of lobster and other shell fish, this sells local fish and is open to the public. A mile south of Amble is Coquet Island, an RSPB reserve with a large population of terns, puffins and eider ducks and boat trips around the island can be arranged. The pretty coastal villages of Alnmouth and Craster and numerous superb beaches are only a short drive away, whilst picturesque Warkworth with its castle, charming Alnwick with its castle and award-winning gardens, and the National Trust’s Wallington Hall and Cragside are all within easy reach.
