  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this great holiday cottage."

We were very appreciative of the generous welcome package and support from the owner when contacted about a hot water issue was prompt and the problem was solved very quickly. A fantastic setting for our pre Christmas family get together.

I’m thrilled to hear that you had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. Thank you so much for your 5* review of Marmalade Cottage. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely time in Northumberland and Marmalade Cottage was warm and comfortable."

We enjoyed staying there. Some areas had not been properly cleaned for a while and so the rota of cleaning seems not to have worked as designed. The facilities were very good, although we were a little bemused by the lack of a few basics like spare bin bags and dishwasher salt. We were very impressed by the prompt response when we lost hot water and it transpired that the oil had run out; all was well by the end of the day. The welcome pack was also very much appreciated. Making contact with Northumbria Cottages could be easier; we spent a long time doing this when previous visitors had left some property behind.

Hi Geraldine, Thank you for your review. I’m naturally very disappointed and would like to understand a little more about why we only achieved a 50% score on facilities. I saw the note you left listing items that were not at the cottage but all of these were in the utility cupboard which is left unlocked and accessible for guests to be able to access other bits and pieces like the iron and board, clothes pegs, additional consumables like washing up liquid, hand soap and so on. Additionally, I’d like to understand why we were only alerted of cleaning issues on your 7th and last day and not before, giving a score of 50%, particularly when the two previous reviews we’ve received have marked this as 100% or 5/5. We leave our direct mobile telephone details in the cottage so that you can easily contact either house-keeping, maintenance or myself. We always aim to be outstanding and if any of our guests feel this isn’t the case we aim to resolve any issues with urgency. Property Owner

  • "Beautiful cottage and garden, high spec furniture and fittings, plenty of sitting areas and bathrooms for a large group."

Great location for access to Seahouses and surrounding areas. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely return. The welcome pack was a lovely surprise. Two comments from our group were that two of the beds were hard and the showers were slippy with soap but there were no handles.

  • "We had the most incredible time at your property!"

It was stunning the decor is sooo perfect and the space is beautifully designed. We never felt like there were so many of us! It was spotless and had all we needed. We utilised everything we could and the location is great too. We wanted to check on your neighbour at no.99 as she had a fall, we saw her on her outside step and managed to get her inside but we didnt see her again, really hope she is okay. My only critique is to put more pics up as we had no idea how big the garden is, the photos you have don't do it justice! So beautiful. We might start a family tradition to come back every year cause we had such a laugh. Also the WELCOME PACK what a gorgeous touch!!

Hi Bethany, Thank you for such a wonderful review. We love Marmalade Cottage too! Extra outdoor photos would be a good idea as the garden is wonderful - thanks for the suggestion. Also, thank you for helping my lovely neighbour out after her fall. Her two daughters visit typically 4 times a day and are on the ball with helping her. We really look forward to welcoming you back. • "I would only recommend Sykes if Saturday changeovers were available."

Our Friday journeys were horrendous as they always are and some of my party had to take an extra day off work too. Marmalade Cottage is beautifully appointed and very comfortable. There is a lovely garden and it is only a short walk from Seahouses centre. We had the best welcome pack we had ever received - thank you! The only problem we had was with the amount of dust which caused both my daughters to sneeze constantly. Otherwise a very enjoyable stay in a lovely house.

Hi, I'm sorry to hear you had journey issues that affected your holiday. Unfortunately travel during the school summer holidays does become trickier due to the increased volume of traffic on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays. I'm delighted to hear you felt our cottage was beautifully appointed, comfortable and well positioned. We love it! And thank you for your "thank you" for the welcome pack. A surprise treat is always lovely, isn't it? I'm sorry to hear that your daughters suffer from allergies. We try extremely hard to make sure our cleaning standards are to the highest level. On that particular changeover day the Sykes inspection team did a routine check as well as myself and do not feel we warranted a score of only 25% in this area. Property Owner

Perfect location, beautiful garden and such a pretty and well maintained cottage. Despite being just the two of us and two dogs I would definitely stay in this cottage again. I couldn’t reset the oven which flashed STOP but I chose not to have it seen to as it wasn’t the be all and end all. I reported it though for the next visitors. I was sad to leave

  • "Stunning house, perfect for a family get together."

Very clean, love the decor. A welcome basket on arrival was the perfect addition and very thoughtful. A couple of maintenance issues (very minor) but there was a book to write in anything we found to be a problem - but like I say the issues we found were very minor. Would definitely recommend this house to stay in for a get together. My sister had the perfect 30th weekend ☺️

Hi Sophie, I’m delighted that you had such a wonderful stay at Marmalade Cottage! And thank you for your tips. We hope to be able to welcome you back soon. Property Owner

  • "A great base for exploring the area - ten minutes walk into Seahouses for boat trips, pubs and restaurants and a short drive to amazing beaches and castles."

Configuration of the property suited our party perfectly and off-road parking was useful. However, we just had the feeling that corners may have been cut at changeover cleaning time. A number of items of childrens' clothing from the previous visitors had been left in the washer and some areas were rather dusty - particularly on the mezzanine level. (Our son is asthmatic so we do tend to notice it more.) The water pressure/temperature in the ground floor walk-in shower was hit-and-miss and hopefully you found our note in the repairs book and could remedy it before the next visitors arrived.

  • "Loved the house it was gorgeous."

Points that let our stay down were Mattress very hard so this disturbed our sleep, we like a soft mattress. A lot of dust and cobwebs around, we did remove some when cleaning up Dog poo in garden, one of the kids came in with it on them. Our dog was not allowed to roam around the garden or house without a lead on, shame that other visitors couldn’t clean up after their dogs, however the garden should be checked before the next visitors arrive. No brush to brush up, had to keep carrying the hoover down, there was a dustpan but no brush

Hi, I’m so sorry to hear you were disappointed with aspects of your stay. We try to make every effort to ensure all of our guests fully enjoy staying with us. We have 3 different grades of firmness of mattresses in the cottage to try to cover all sleep comfort needs and I’m sorry yours wasn’t soft enough. We welcome well behaved dogs and although we ask that they are not left unattended the garden it is fully enclosed and secure to let pooches run freely. Our gardner checks for dog poop and any other rubbish in the garden every changeover so apologies for this oversight. It’s never happened before. We do provide dog poop bags as well as clear signage on what we expect responsible dog owners to do. I have contacted the Sykes house-keeper to ensure we carry out freshen-up cleans to remove dust and any cobwebs if the cottage has been empty for more than two weeks (it staggers me how quickly these can appear). The brush should have been with the pan - I found one under the sink and the other in the utility cupboard. They’re paired up now . Property Owner

The house is in a fantastic location with lots to do, see and visit. We would love to visit again in the Spring months to see more of the wildlife. Thank you once again to the owners as you have created a stunning house in a lovely location.

Hi amd thank you for your great. feedback. It’s always welcomed. Our bin accepts mixed waste and we pay our commercial refuse contractor a levy to sort it for recycling at the depot. • "We stayed here last year, had a wonderful stay and re booked for this year and paid a premium for the privilege."

The furniture is looking dated. For example The backs of the kit kitchen chairs are damaged and worn etc. The main issue was the stench when we arrived. At first we didn’t know what it was. We couldn’t open the outside windows at the front. When we first used the outside bin the number of flies that flew out was astonishing. Yup, the bin was putrid. Thereafter to use the bin we had to put a bin liner in, in a split second. My wife was wretching when she went to the car. We complained during our stay. Maintenance simply moved the bin 8 feet further away from the property. The bin should have been emptied and chemically cleaned. Towards the end of the stay there was a large number of flies in the garden and property. We have therefore not booked for next year Simon Helliwell 07540876445

We would have used the outside areas more if there had been more outside furniture and a fire pit or chimera. A brush and dustpan for outside would have been useful to keep the area clean

Thank you for a 100% score! We’re thrilled you felt Marmalade Cottage deserved this. Also, thank you for your recommendations to supply an outdoor dustpan and brush as well as additional outdoor seating. We’re on it! Regrettably the proximity of the patio area to the oil tank doesn’t safely permit us to provide a chimenea. Property Owner

The property

A simply stunning detached holiday home resting in the tranquil outskirts of Seahouses in Northumberland, Marmalade Cottage is the ideal destination for a large family get-together or a gathering of family and friends.

Inside, the interior has a real ‘wow’ factor and certainly wouldn’t look out of place out in the classiest of interiors magazines.

The outstanding accommodation starts with the open-plan living space which has a double height vaulted ceiling helping to create a real feeling of light and space and makes the most of the beautiful views with bi-folding doors allowing guests to let the outside in.

You can imagine gathering on the comfy seating area either in the winter to get warm in front of the gorgeous woodburning stove or to cool down on hot, sunny days by throwing open the sliding doors; this is a wonderfully sociable space where many happy holiday memories will be made.

The designated chef will be delighted with the sleek and contemporary kitchen which comes fully equipped with everything needed to entertain and feed the troops.

The stylish dining area is set up ready for guests to pull up a chair and look forward to long, leisurely meals together.

Should the sun be shining, then you can carry on the party outside with an attractive patio area complete with extensive patio furniture, where guests can take a seat and chill while any children and pets can run around safely in the enclosed gardens.

A great alternative space to relax and either play or chill out is the mezzanine level play room which has seating and the space for children to play or the grown-ups to sit back and curl up with a good book away from the hustle and bustle of the main house.

The ‘wow’ factor continues with the bedrooms, which are like something out of a chic boutique hotel; tasteful soft furnishings combine with beautiful décor and sumptuous beds, throws, cushions and rugs, which all add up to create a really laid back vibe.

There are five wonderfully appointed bedrooms; four king-size and one double and with four bathrooms to choose from, no need to worry about queuing for the bathroom in the morning!

Seahouses is just a few minutes’ walk which has a good selection of amenities as well as miles of sandy beaches and because it’s located within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, you are guaranteed a whole host of beautiful walks and hikes rewarded by some stunning views along the way.

Take a boat trip which run daily from Seahouses to Farne islands where you can look out for birds and seals.

Further afield there are magnificent castles to discover such as Dunstanburgh, Warkworth, Lindisfarne and Cragside, with towns such as the historic market town of Alnwick; Alnmouth known for its excellent golf course; and Bamburgh with its infamous castle.

For an outstanding holiday destination that oozes style and glamour, a stay at Marmalade Cottage promises holiday memories that will last forever.
