  • "I had a brilliantly quiet and enjoyable few days away with my dogs!"

The cottage was perfect for me and the walks through the grounds just what me and my 2 border collies needed. Thank you

  • "Great stay, loved the location with access to the woods and pele tower."

A few initial issues with mice behind the walls which kept us awake at night, despite bait being put down. This is not surprising given the location, didn't put us off but might other visitors. Left a few suggestions to the owner for improvements .

  • "West Lodge is a lovely calm place to stay with a fully enclosed garden and really pretty walks round the grounds."

Our dogs loved it! Like all older properties it would benefit from a little TLC but on the whole it was a welcoming and warm place to spend a relaxing week

  • "We had the most wonderful stay at West Lodge."

The cottage itself is a great size and well provided for. Its own gardens are beautiful and sunny all day! The absolute gem are the grounds surrounding the property! There is a gate in the front garden which gives access to a woodland walk and also to the 13th Century Preston Tower and the gardens of the estate. Our dogs loved it just about as much as we did! A visit inside the tower is highly recommended for the history of this impressive building and especially the views from the top! This part of Northumberland is so beautiful with great beach walks a few miles away at Seahouses and Bamburgh Castle just beyond.

  • "Direction provided were very accurate and made West Lodge easy to find."

The sign on the gate regarding not reversing onto road was a great piece of advice and highlighted the thought that the owners put into their guests stay. West Lodge was exceptionally well equipped, comfortable and clean. The owners were very friendly and contactable by telephone if required and stayed next door to the lodge. Our dachshund Misha loved the enclosed garden and also the walks in the wood and round the grounds of Preston Tower. This was an ideal base to explore the area and one week was too short. Would stay here again when visiting area.

  • "We really enjoyed our stay here, location is very convenient for exploring Northumberland as it is so central and easy access to A1."

Beds were very comfortable and bathrooms and kitchen good - kitchen is well stocked. Felt that the decor was getting a bit "tired" in some areas and probably due for a deep clean - the skirting boards especially need washing. This did not detract from our stay at all and would happily stay again.

  • "The beds were spotless as was all the equipment in the kitchen and when the shower was sorted that was good also BUT and I am sorry to do this the toilet seats were hanging off and I am afraid your cleaning staff are letting you down as the property was in some parts grubby and in others quite dirty."

The toilet seat has been fixed. I checked the property after these guests had been and it was neither grubby nor dirty! There was a problem with the shower which was fixed promptly by ourselves. The property was cleaned by the same cleaner as usual and as can be seen by previous feedback cleanliness is nearly always awarded full marks so slightly puzzled by these comments! Property Owner

  • "A very enjoyable stay."

The lodge was located close enough to the many historical gems on this part of the Northumberland coast. The owner kept us well supplied with logs & the heating kept us warm & cosy when the temperature began to drop at night. In the ground stood Preston Pele tower, which was a short walk from the lodge. Fascinating history with pleasant hourly chimes!! Well worth a stay.

The setting was tranquil and beautiful, out in the countryside, and we really enjoyed going for walks in the wood in the evening, and visitng the tower. Inside, the property was spacious, nicely decorated, and had everything we needed, no problems. Friendly hosts, would definitely recommend.

  • "A comfortable cottage in a fabulous location."

Our children loved being able to go for walks in the woods and explore the castle tower in the grounds and so did we. The accommodation had everything we needed and was only a few minutes drive from beautiful quiet beaches at Seahouses. Harry, the owner, was very welcoming and helpful. We had a very enjoyable and relaxing stay. Thank you.

  • "Lovely cottage in such a great spot."

It was nice to meet and briefly chat to the owner. The cottage matched our expectations and was perfect for our needs. One thing to mention is the lack of a visitor book at the property. It’s a relatively minor thing, and we get that we live in a digital age, but we feel that a visitor book in a traditional cottage like this adds to the experience; getting other people’s pointers/tips/experiences of their stay in the area really helps and provide flavour. Makes the stay less transactional, more shared experience, where we can also impart our own tips/experiences for future guests.

  • "This was our third visit and we love it."

Nice and cosy if weather bad but great when the sun shines. We liked the addition of gates to make the garden secure for our new dog. Access to the grounds is a bonus and we always enjoy the Pele tower. The location is great for getting to the coast and wonderful quiet beaches. Alnwick is just 20 minutes drive and handy for supplies. Lovely holiday altogether and we would definitely return a fourth time!

  • "Comfortable, well-equipped cottage with central heating and a wood fire (logs supplied by the owner)."

Close to Low Newton (Ship Inn is good for kippers and kipper pate, home-brewed beers), and Embleton (very good village shop with fresh bread, vegetables, meat, wine as well as being a Post Office). The cottage is on a small estate with Preston Tower, an ancient pele tower, at its centre. The garden and woods are open to residents in the cottage. Very friendly and helpful owner, especially when we had an encounter with a pothole which meant cutting our holiday short.

Almost everything we needed and the access to nearby places was excellent. The lodge is very well equipped but I would add a freezer and maybe a larger TV for winter evenings. The hot water pressure was very low. That said, we would return in heartbeat.

  • "Staying at West Lodge was a most enjoyable experience."

The personal touches that were left for us by the housekeeper was very thoughtful. The property itself was clean and warm and spacious enough for our needs and those of our dogs. The pressure in the hot taps was perhaps a little low, but nothing that spoiled our living experience. The siting and immediate surrounding area of the property was delightfully quiet. Our expectations were met!
