• "Another fabulous stay at The Byre!"

  We spent the May/June half-term here and enjoyed it so much, came back for the October half-term. We’re a family of four with a small dog. The house has a great layout for us, entering into a utility-type area great for towelling down a dog and with a sink, American fridge freezer and a washer/dryer. Also space to hang coats and a shoe rack to tidy those millions of family shoes away from the door! Open-plan, cosy living space with the kitchen, dining and seating area combined and a lovely log burner. The cottage is well equipped - even found a measuring jug, a clothes airer and the all-important Nespresso coffee machine for the caffeine-lovers out there! Location is perfect for what we want, away from it all down a long farm track and with beautiful unspoilt views. The fenced garden was great for the dog, as well as walks off-lead from the door. Our kids enjoyed a few milkshakes from the farm shop. Thanks so much for the welcome pack of breakfast food (our first stay was a lovely home-baked cake!). We enjoyed our stay so much, that we’ve booked again for the adjoining property!

• "What a wonderful place to stay!"

  Lovely clean and tidy. The owner left us a breakfast package that went down a treat. There was everything there that we needed including some dog things. It was peaceful and quiet, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

• "We certainly enjoyed our holiday at The Byre, it was very comfortable with all we needed."

  Thank you for the welcome pack which we thought was exceedingly good and very tasty. The property is in an ideal location for sightseeing in Northumberland, it was also very quiet and the night sky was amazing to see. Would love to revisit in a couple of years. • "Wonderful property, set in a fabulous farm location, which was peaceful and tranquil with beautiful views."

  Equiped with every home comfort you could think of, the property was spotless and immaculately presented and yet felt cosy and homely. We were welcomed with bread, eggs, sausages, bacon and more. We loved driving down the lane past the cows every day and stopping for fresh milk. We can't wait to come back, thankyou

• "A beautiful cottage set in the middle of fields."

  Owner very friendly and thoughtful - welcome package was really good with fresh eggs butter and meat from the farm. Very nice touch. The cottage was very well equipped with everything you need for a break. We stayed for a week and it was very easy living. The beds were very comfortable and the surroundings ensure for a peaceful break.

• "Lovely property but could be better as no privacy from fence that is virtually falling down."

  ...no washing line and no welcome pack ie treats etc for your dog just towels and poo bags even though you pay extra to bring a pet as this is not budget cottage so you expect a bit more for what you pay which have experienced at other cottages but overall good but not outstanding or perfect as reviews suggested

  Thank you for your review. We value your comments but are so disappointed you felt so strongly to give us such a low rating. Regarding the wicker fence it has indeed been battered by the wind but it is in fact still a good privacy barrier and it is protecting a laurel hedge we have planted to separate the cottage gardens in the future I will look into that. There is a clothes airer in the pine cupboards? Along with iron & ironing board. No we have never had an actual washing line. Something I always felt was an eye sore. I have never left a welcome pack for the dogs but maybe that’s a good idea ? As said there are doggie towels & poo bags available I thought the welcome pack we leave for humans is over and above what most people leave. But will definitely consider leaving something for dogs The cottages are very good value for money. But obviously that is your opinion Thank you again. Property Owner

• "We had a super week staying at The Byre with our two dogs, so peaceful and watching the horses in the fields was a bonus."

  A very comfortable, clean and very well equipped cottage even towels etc for the dogs were provided . On arrival there were fresh eggs, bacon, rolls and butter. Not too far away is a good pub called the Dyke Neuk Inn which serves very good home made dishes. Beautiful area with friendly people.

• "Such a gorgeous property, we loved our stay."

  Far enough out of the way for a peaceful holiday, yet close to loads of National Trust/English Heritage sites and only 30 mins to the beach. Fantastic for dogs as the garden is secure and loads of space for them to run around. Loved the eggs, bacon and milk as a welcome from the owners.

• "A very warm and cozy cottage, and being able to have a fire in the evenings was a treat."

  What a wonderful place to spend a holiday,started with the breakfast pack in the fridge for our stay,very friendly owners always on hand if there was a problem which there was not,the location was secluded which was what we wanted and our four legged friends were extremely well catered for,and of course a daily visit from betty made us smile,cannot praise enough

• "My daughter and I had a wonderful week exploring Northumberland with Tia our cockapoo."

  The beds and sofas were so comfortable and the house is so well equipped with everything you could possibly need. We were pleasantly surprised when we opened the fridge to see bacon, sausages, eggs, butter, milk and fresh eggs. How nice they were too and from a local farm. What a lovely touch! The garden was so pretty at night when the sun was going down and a sun trap. We adored the beautiful horses in their paddocks, they were very friendly and came to the fence to say hi each evening on our walk. The house is in a beautiful setting surrounded by fields and horses in their paddocks, it was so peaceful and just what we were looking for. We met the owners dogs a couple of times, one was a right little character who thought she was a guard dog which was so funny because she was weeny but a sweet little thing! Thank you for a really enjoyable week at The Byre.

• "What a lovely place."

  Considering we were last minute in booking you wouldn’t have known it when we walked in to The Byre. The place was immaculate! Comfortable accommodation which is both homely and practical. The coffee machine and milk frother were such a lovely touch - when on holiday you actually have time for a ‘proper’ coffee! The Byre is a great base to explore the coast, the historical houses and castles, Kielder Forest and of course The Wall. We were out and about every day and loved coming back to our home from home. Popular with the children and dog too! The owner was helpful and friendly. Fantastic stay.

• "Lovely stay and perfect location to explore Northumberland."

  Could benefit from a thicker rug in the living area as hard floors and to swap the two rooms as the twin room is beautiful. It should be the master.

  Thank you and delighted you enjoyed your stay The beautiful rugs over hardwood floors are there because we accept dogs It would be extremely difficult to clean if we had thicker rugs or indeed carpet down. Some dogs leave a lot of hair !! Regarding the rooms Thank you for the comment regarding the bedrooms. I agree the twin room is stunning !! Fantastic views ! Sadly the twin beds are too tight in the double room as it has the fitted wardrobe & vanity sink unit in there and you’d loose the dressing table too Hope you’ll visit us again soon. Property Owner

• "What a wonderful property and setting."

  A lovely breakfast pack waiting on arrival and the most gorgeous cake too! We would definitely recommend this property for a relaxing break. The open plan lounge, dinning and kitchen facilities were great and the large wrap around (and fully enclosed) garden was just what our little dog needed. Lots to do nearby and a couple of great pubs/restaurants just 20 minutes away. Thank you for a brilliant stay.

• "The Byre is a lovely, quiet location from where to base your holiday."

  We found it clean, homely and welcoming with a lovely breakfast hamper to greet us. The large fridge in the utility was very useful as an overflow for larger items, The double bed has fabulous bedding, it’s so soft and comfortable - like sleeping in a giant marshmallow! The garden was perfect for us and our two dogs who very much enjoyed the space. Cresswell beach was our favourite and only 30 minutes away with The Drift Cafe which serves lovely food. We would definitely recommend The Byre to anyone who asked us about our stay, and hope we can come back another time. Thank you Yorkie xx

• "Wonderful time at the Byre."

  Lovely interior, all rooms very impressive and of high quality. Great garden which is secure for dogs. Beautiful surroundings with fantastic walks, so relaxing to be able to let the dogs wander off without their leads, they loved it! Great to chat with the horses too! Owners extremely helpful, and a lovely breakfast pack and croissants set up for us. Would thoroughly recommend for a relaxing holiday, a real escape. Supermarkets a distance away but just makes you more organised!
