  • "Fantastic base for a week of adventures exploring the North east coast and Scottish Borders."

Lots of areas to explore locally for walks if you have a four-legged friend with you. There was an issue with the fridge and freezer but this was sorted within 20mins of letting them know. Amazing cottage and we would love to book again if we are back in the area. Thank you x x

Only a very weak signal is detected from next door property, which isn’t adequate so had to buy from separate source.

Hello. The house is semi detached and the router is next door. This was the installation advised by open reach and has been adequate. The cottage description clearly states intermittent Wi-Fi. When this issue was raised we offered your party the opportunity to use a space in our home office should you need to conduct any urgent meetings. The broadband will be improved by the installation of hitherto unavailable fibre in the near future Property Owner

  • "This was my second stay at Grooms Cottage which tells you that I thoroughly enjoyed my previous stay in July 2022."

The place hasn't changed since then still very good accommodation which is maintained in good order and has everything you would want for an enjoyable holiday. There are numerous lovely places to visit within an half hours drive and if you have a dog you can walk straight out across the road and complete an hours circular walk. Two nights we the at The Allanton Inn which is a five minutes drive away and I highly recommend their food. also sampled the Craw Inns food on the way to the coast and that's great too.

  • "What a lovely little cottage!"

Loved the area and the fact that there was a little courtyard for my granddaughter and the dog to go out in. We were out most of the day while we were there but it was so nice to come back to a proper home. We cooked a couple of meals and had everything we needed. We loved it and would definitely go back. My only criticism is that on the Vrbo website it didn't make clear the amount of pets allowed, you have to really look for it in the huge write up, it needs to be mentioned at the top in the description!

  • "Enjoyed my stay at this cottage, one thing I will say I feel that the cottage needs a little bit of TLC nothing major, main thing would be looking at the window in the kitchen as it seemed like the latch didn't want to open and we didn't want to pull it too hard and break it so didn't use that window."

I would suggest instructions on how to use the radiators this is my own person opinion as I've always lived in a more modern house with number dials on the side of the radiator so was very confused how to use the radiators but that's nothing against the cottage just me not understanding how to use them.

Very comfortable, well equipped, warm and clean, the welcome package was a nice touch too, thank you Have to be careful cooking in the oven as it would burn things on one side. But turning the food regularly helps with this.

  • "This cottage is comfortably set up for four adults and a dog and is set in pretty surroundings close to the border towns and coast."

There are a couple of pubs a co op and a fish and chip shop nearby. My main concern was the cleaning of the property considering the check in and out times. First impressions were a dark courtyard covered in leaves with 2 old wooden chairs and some plant pots with dead plants in them. The front door mat was worn away and the steps were filthy as were the doorways and windows. There was no mat inside the door so we kept walking in leaves and muddy footprints. The house was dusty and had lots of cobwebs, the oven was dirty and the shower needed a good clean. It was also quite cold in the evening as only one heater was working downstairs and didn't give out much heat. Overall the cottage itself is very nice but it needs some care and attention to the little details to make it a more pleasant place to stay.

  • "Everything was clean and comfortable."

The cottage was well placed for local walks, pubs, shops. We only used the double bed which was very comfortable although the sheets were slightly too small for the very large bed. The kitchen was well equipped and very clean. It was lovely to be provided with coffee, tea, milk and biscuits (my favourite!) on arrival. It was great to have two bathrooms and both shower and bath. Thank you for a lovely holiday although helped by fantastic weather.

  • "The amenities were adequate but the outside space was disappointing."

The trees make the cottage gloomy, with little light. The outside furniture is old, pots with no flowers. On the longest day we couldn’t sit outside as the sunshine could not penetrate the unruly trees and bushes. Unbelievably we had to put the fire on. It was however a good location for us to explore all our favourite places in this beautiful part of the world.

  • "The cottage was in a very pleasant area but the immediate environs needed some attention."

The trees on the site would benefit from lopping and felling, to allow more sunshine into the cottages, and the grounds would benefit from more regular maintenance. The cottage itself was adequate - except for the very creaky floorboards! However, as we usually arrive at a holiday cottage with several days' worth of frozen meals, we do not expect to have to defrost the freezer overnight in order to unpack the freezer bag. I would therefore suggest that the weekly housekeeping checklist includes de-icing the freezer and also checking that all the lights work.

We have had an absolutely perfect holiday at Grooms Cottage. The cottage was spotless and very well looked after, there is everything you could ever need, especially in the kitchen. Loads of different pots and pans etc. Even had colour coded chopping boards.. Lounge has 2 nice comfy sofas and a good size TV. Beds were very comfy. Benefits from having both a bath and shower. Enclosed garden outside with a brand new BBQ. Set in further lovely tranquil frounds. We could not find a single fault with the property at all...its fabulous ..and we will certainly return when we can. The location is quite remote and a car is needed to get around the area but we knew that before arriving and was one of the reasons we chose it. It is easy to get to loads of different places such as Edinburgh, North Berwick ( lovely little fishing town), Holy Island, Eyemouth to name a few. Most relaxed holiday we've had in ages... We would highly recommend grooms cottage to anyone. Thank you Liz, we hope to see you again soon.

Supplied with hand towels only :(. The toilets had splashes of poop around the bowl. The outer space could have been much tidier and the BBQ was filthy. To be honest a very disapointing stay & will not book again

I am so sorry that you were disappointed with your stay. If we fell below the standards that we expect to keep I apologize, however there are a couple of points I feel I should make. We clearly state in our welcome pack to let us know if you have any issues. My husband came and sorted the hot water at your request and asked that you let him know if there was an ongoing issue, you did not let him know. If you had let me or my husband know that you had an issue with either cleanliness in the bathrooms, or in the outside space we would have dealt with that immediately and replaced the BBQ. It is disappointing for us and our guests when they are not satisfied, however it is extremely disappointing when guests do not inform us of issues that could be easily rectified. Property Owner

Sadly the first day I woke up with RSV illnesss so I spent all week at the cottage until I was well enough to travel home. The cottage itself is quiet and comfortable, I would have preferred a better hob to cook on and a spare blanket in the wardrobe would have been welcome. Apart from that there are a coupl of maintenance points that need attention: One of the storage heaters in the lounge area doesn't work at all. The ensuite toilet continues to tricklle water quietly so it looks like an adjustment is needed to reduce water waste.

Cottage was great & surrounding area wonderful for walking Only comments would be that wifi was very bad. Most of the time it told me I was connected fine, but there was no internet. It was frustrating knowing the cottage had wifi, but not having it available. Would be easier to actually say there was no wifi which I think would have been easier to cope with. Wanted wifi mainly to check on weather for next day and see opening times of different places to go & visit. Other comment would be that the teapot was in the cupboard and when I went to use it there was a used teabag in. This had obviously not been washed. Info said all crockery would have been washed. In todays climate this is especially important. Overall though an absolutely fabulous holiday & cottage was great

About the location

CHIRNSIDE

Duns 6 miles; Berwick-upon-Tweed 9 miles.

The village of Chirnside occupies an elevated position overlooking the River Whiteadder and offers stunning views across the magnificent Cheviot and Lammermuir Hills. A number of interesting landmarks depict the village's long history, including a 16th Century dovecot and a beautiful parish church, believed to date back to the 12th Century. Each summer, the Jim Clark Rally, the only 'closed roads' race on mainland Britain, takes place in and around the Borders as a memorial to the village’s home born champion. Just 9 miles away lies the charming, coastal town of Berwick, boasting quaint, narrow streets enclosed within Elizabethan walls, excellent shopping and dining facilities and an interesting arts centre. The local area affords fantastic fishing, golf, walking and riding opportunities and the nearby resorts of Eyemouth, Coldingham and Spittal offer soft, sandy beaches, ideal for a relaxing afternoon. A brilliant location for exploring historic Edinburgh, the stunning Northumberland coastline, and the attractions of Holy Island, Paxton House, Manderson, Bamburgh and Alnwick Castle.
