"Lovely setting for a cottage, it is an old building but is well maintained."
Loved the fireplace and windows to the courtyard. The cottage was very warm and cosy. The owners left some milk and cookies which were much appreciated. Great area to explore the NE coastline, and also close to the A1, about 60 miles from Edinburgh. Wifi is good and had no issues during our stay. Booking in and leaving times could be a little more lenient, but this did not detract from a wonderful week at The Coach House.

"Whilst the apartment was spacious and superficially clean, there were so many issues that needed attention that it left us feeling very letdown."
I will list some of the issues here although many of them have already been mentioned in previous reviews.
. Bathroom mirror is tiny.
. Bathroom lighting is poor.
. Bathroom window doesn't open.
.Toilet cistern mechanism difficult to flush.
. Windows all need cleaning.
.Mould on bedroom ceiling.
.Garden and surrounding areas poorly maintained.
.The information sheet was buried in a great pile of pamphlets and didn't give any advice on the heating.
.One of the heaters wasn't working.
.The boiler cupboard was messy and dirty.
.Quite a few items not supplied/not enough quantity.
. Examples- toilet paper, dishwasher tablets, washing up detergent, dishcloths, tea towels, general cleaning fluid .
The whole place felt unfriendly and unwelcoming.
There wasn't any contact from the owners and even the cleaners just walked right past without even a nod.
I noticed from previous reviews that the owners suggested that they would be happy to sort out any issues. When I book holiday accommodation, I really do think it is reasonable to expect to arrive to find everything nicely sorted. I don't expect to have to contact the owners and then sit around waiting for things to be rectified, especially when arrival time is 5.00pm and departure time is 9.00am.

I am sorry you were so disappointed.
We obviously fell below our expected standards. It is unfortunate you didn’t raise any of these issues with us at the time of your stay. Indeed we would not have kept you waiting around for any issues to be sorted, we would have treated you to refreshments at a local pub/coffee shop while we attended to anything you were unhappy with. This is our usual practice, to work with guests to resolve any issues arising

Good morning
I am sorry that you experienced this difficulty. My husband did indeed come across to see you and try to help and found that the radiators were turned up to maximum. He turned them down for you and asked that you let us know if the problem wasn't resolved.
You also at this time requested logs for the wood burner, which would only have increased the heat.
You did not get in touch again so we made the reasonable assumption that the problem was resolved.

However the location was marred by the frequent dog barking and piles of dogs faeces in the shared courtyard. Also in winter with the late access the cottage was extremely difficult to find. We always use Sykes when booking cottages but was disappointed on this occasion.
I can only apologise that our standards fell below those which we expect to meet. I wish you had told us of your difficulties and disappointment and we could have addressed the problem.

Nobody came out to take them in or to make them be quiet. So at 11 45pm I through our door in to the court yard went to find somebody ,nobody about shouted was there anybody rhere no answer so I Ushered 2 of the dogs through the open doors into their dining room come kitchen the 3rd one took some getting in but eventually did. Then went back to our apartment as they had stopped barking still nobody came out ..Manage to at last relax and went to bed at 12 30am..This was the last thing I wanted on our last night as being 73yrs old with a 250 mile drive back home and having to be out of the place by 9 00am. NOT VERY HAPPY....

Myself and my husband decided to book very last minute, booking Sunday morning to arrive the following day for 5 nights. The apartment was lovely and warm and was just as described and in the pictures. The utility room was great for being able to remove walking boots and gear before entering the living room. We really enjoyed the cosy apartment and it had everything we needed for our stay. There were a few things that could be tweaked or added but we were happy and has a lovely time. We did both the recommended walks down the coach house and had an evening meal at the local pub The Allenton Inn (2 minutes in the car). There are lots of beautiful places to visit. "We had a delightful stay at the Coach House - very handy for touring in the Eastern Scottish Borders (Berwickshire Area) and the South East of Scotland & North East of England coastline towns & villages."
Good facilities throughout and well kitted out - everything you need in the kitchen, besides the fridge there is freezer, dishwasher and washing machine - so great scope for longer stays (we stayed one week). A couple of points to note: the bath is very high (not so good for the elderly) and there is no grab rail once in the bath (again, not so good for the elderly) - I'm nearly 75 so I'm offering my experience. Having said that, my wife and I had a lovely time at this cosy holiday let. I recommend this cottage but warn less fit people of the difficulties in getting in and out of the bath and staying safe whilst showering. Maybe the owners will add a grab rail sometime soon which would go a long way to overcoming such difficulties. The owners were great and kindly and were on hand to sort out any problems should any have arisen. I would, despite my difficulties, stay here again in the future.

"The location was good and the place was quite well equipped."
But on our third evening we found a large (4 inch) live slug in the property. This event prompted us to make a close inspection of the property and it was FILTHY. Almost every window had thick cobwebs and dead insects, in places the dust was so thick you could write in it. There were dead and live insects in the bedroom and black mould in the bathroom. The whole place was DISGUSTING! So much so that we decided to leave the next morning cutting short our holiday by 3 days. After all, if a 4 inch slug can get in what else could? I WOULD NOT STAY IN THIS PLACE AGAIN IF I WAS PAID.
Thank you for taking the time to let us know your thoughts. I am surprised to hear these comments as myself and my husband were on hand throughout your stay and we checked in periodically to make sure you were happy and had everything you needed. Our property is cleaned and managed by a very reputable team for a number of years and as previous guests mentioned it has always been a pleasant and positive experience. As the property is in a rural area, it is possible if a door or windown is left open that wildlife may find its way into the property, its the nature of the surrounding and location. I am sorry to hear that you felt you had no option but to leave, however had you made us aware that these were your intentions we would have looked at some suitable alternatives.

It seems that after our release from a long lockdown across the UK some businesses have taken the time out to freshen, spruce, general tidy up of premises, not seems to be the case at the Coach House.
Would suggest replacing light bulbs which are out, getting a toilet seat that fits the toilet bowl. Dust around the windows inside and cleaning windows outside and inside.
There is no glass recycling and the instruction booklet suggested taking glass recycling home. Might be worth giving location of glass recycling points which we found nearby.

"The Coach House was part of a building that had a central courtyard that was charming."
Although there were two steps to access the property the accommodation was all on one floor with no steps inside and the rooms were spacious and not cluttered so it makes a good holiday for people, like me, with mobility needs.
It was extremely well fitted out with both dish washer and washer/dryer plus standards like micro wave oven, toaster and DVD player. Liz and Mike were also very helpful, assisting me to unpack my vehicle, arranging for somewhere undercover to park my mobility scooter overnight and charge it. They also sorted any and all queries, or issues I had during my stay.
The area is very good for a number of differing reasons, historic, walking, within reasonable distance of Edinburgh, Hadrian’s Wall and other places. The local town of Berwick also has a lot to interest, besides Ye Olde Superstore Morrisons, the town walls, castle (remains of), battlements and buildings. I spent several days there and still did not cover all I wanted to see.
A gem I found was The Union Chain Bridge, the oldest suspension bridge still in use in Europe, however, despite its antiquity and historic value very few people seemed to know of its existence and it had few visitors.
I loved my holiday, if I come back to the area I will certainly see if The Coach House is available.
