Stayed in the upstairs apartment got the key for bottom door but needed to ring owner for the code for the top door and also had to ask for firewood as was none available thats the only issue apart from that everythimg was spot on

"Apartment was perfect for our needs, having two children, four and one year old."
Travel cot and highchair supplied on request and the open plan living/dining area was very spacious and comfortable. Even though outside temperature was minus 4, we were very warm, extra heaters available to support the central heating system as required. Kitchen well equipped and everything clean and tidy. Clear information supplied in advance regarding key pick up and the additional information supplied about the local area was very helpful.

"The apartment was great."
I didn't actually think the photos online done it justice. The kitchen and lounge area were big, spacious and comfortable. Great place to stay if you are attending a wedding at Le Petite Chatue.

"The cottage was a perfect base for a wedding at Le Petite Chateaux."
Location couldn't have been better. It was much more spacious than we expected which was a nice surprise. In general it was in a good state of repair, slightly shabby in places particularly the entry way which made me a little hesitant at what we'd find in the cottage itself but that was far brighter and tidier.
Only real issue was the confusion around breakfast. The information in the kitchen of the cottage stated a sitting at a certain time. On our first morning we went down at that time and had a really lovely warm welcome from the lady working there (unfortunately didn't catch her name) who told us it was all included in our booking. The following day we arrived to be told that we'd caused a problem the day before as we weren't expected and it meant they struggled to serve other guests. It put a dampner on the stay really, as even though the gentlemen said it wasn't a problem if we had breakfast again, his tone and his obvious annoyance didn't make us feel particularly welcome so we paid up for the previous day and left. We checked the breakfast list in the accommodation and it really didn't make it clear so perhaps updating that for future guests would be helpful.
Thank you for your review. I'm delighted that you enjoyed your stay generally and that the apartment was spacious, bright and comfortable. I wouldn,t describe the entrance as shabby, it is newly decorated, although I accept that there was some equipment under the stairs that required moving.
It is clear from the get go that the apartment is self catering and the menu in the apartment very clearly states that should you want to enjoy a full breakfast with us there is a need to prebook, when you can enjoy it for a discounted price of £7.50 per head, to include a full breakfast, cereals and drinks etc, which is a generous offer. I can only apologise if there was confusion. the lady in the dining room wasn't aware that you were staying in the apartment. I can only apologise if you found my tone unwelcoming. I did explain that it wasn't an issue for you to have breakfast but, that there might be a wait given that we were very busy and we cook fresh to order and you hadn't reserved it that it would be chargeable. You were charged for 4 persons for the previous day and your children ate free of charge

"Stayed in the Apartment for 6 people."
Lovely and spacious, bedding, towels, kitchen supplies etc.
The stairway area was a bit dirty and didn't give a good first impression. The apartment itself was clean enough, although not spotless. Dusty skirting boards. We were only provided 1 toilet roll so recommend you take extra. 2 of the bedrooms don't have a mirror so we all had to use the one bedroom with a mirror when getting ready for a wedding. There was n iron, but no ironing board.
For an apartment of 6, I thin mirrors, toilet rolls, and and ironing board is a pretty basic expectation.
We were told we could access the apartment at 1pm. When we arrived at 1.30pm, the apartment hadn't been cleaned form the previous occupants. When we called, the Manager did resolve it straight quickly and said the cleaning company hadn't turned up. We went out, came back at 5pm and it was ready.
I apologise for for the oversight. At the time of your booking I had expected the apartment to be cleaned in the morning and I hadn.t been made aware that the cleaner hadn't done so hence the issues with the stairway, toilet rolls etc. As soon as you made me aware I was able to have the apartment cleaned. I agree that my expectation is that you are provided with sufficient toilet roll etc.
The apartment has an iron and ironing board but a previous guest had taken the ironing board to the laundry downstairs.
There are mirrors in the bedroom, that hall and the bathroom but I will ensure that each bedroom has a mirror in future. Thank you again for your comments

"Very nice and well-appointed cottage."
We are cottage owners ourselves and throughly enjoyed staying at Butterchurn apartment. We didnt get a chance to enjoy the garden as it was only short stay but it also looked very well maintained like the apartment was. I'd throughly recommend this apartment if you are attending a wedding at a nearby venue like we were, it was so convenient and comfortable for me and my family.

"An amazing property to stay with a family."
The rooms were immaculate, the kitchen was fully functioning and exceeded all expectations and the lounge area was extremely comfortable with a beautiful lit fire on our arrival.
The breakfast was excellent value for money and the staff were very efficient.
I would thoroughly recommend this accommodation. We will certainly be back.

"Sykes Holiday Cottages - Butterchurn - Otterburn
We stayed in the first-floor apartment which was well positioned, well equipped, clean and near the wedding venue we were attending."
When we arrived however, after an tiring 7 hour drive with our two young grandsons, the keys were not where they were supposed to be (on the windowsill inside). We then repeatedly phoned the number given ( 07768744922) to reach Darren, the owner. The number never answered. After a while we discovered and rang a " fire alarm number" belonging to the cleaner, a nice lady called Joanne who kindly explained how to get into the kitchen of the guesthouse part of the property and get the key to the upstairs apartment which had in fact a different entrance.
We found the property rather cold and given the time of year the heating was not timed to come on early enough in the evening. The information book in the apartment said “heating controls in cupboard” but this was not so.
On the last day Joanne came back to enquire whether we were okay, apologised and gave us some logs for the woodburning stove.
Darren was supposedly on holiday. That may well have been true but he could of course have made himself available wherever he was in the world or at least contacted us himself to apologise.
Overall we did not get value for money and feel justified in not recommending the property. Sykes Holiday Cottages should have seen to it that the description given of the property tallied with the facts. The book inside the apartment was also inaccurate. We suggest a financial compensation of sorts should be considered.

I’m delighted that you found the accommodation clean, very well equipped and well appointed and our representative lovely.
It is most regrettable that in error, the key was not left out for you on the windowsill and I can only apologise for this simple oversight. but, I understand that you were able to contact joanne who was able to tell you how to obtain the key. We try extremely hard to get things right for our guests and this was a simple oversight of our apartment cleaner. It was however available to you onsite momentarily
The apartment was supplied with kindling, sticks, fire lighters and matches. You notified joanne at 4pm on arrival that the apartment was colder than you’d have liked. It is usual for the heating to kick in automatically at 5.30pm and guests are usually out all day and therefore, it has never proved an issue. The heating was timed to come on 7.30-9-30 and 12.30-2.30 and 5.30 - 10-30 and does not fall below 16oC. As soon as joanne was advised I boosted the heating to come on immediately and I adjusted the timings for the remainder of your stay remotely and you confirmed that the central heating had kicked in. I understand that later joanne checked in with you and provided additional logs and more than sufficient to last the duration of your stay. In future I will ensure that the log burner is lit for guest arrivals , such is my expectation. The notes in the book are intended to let guests know that they can switch the heating off from the cupboard and I will review and amend this description on my return. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
At the time you were trying to contact my number I was on a flight to Thailand. My first in 5 years, that wasn’t supposed as you have suggested but actual and I resent your veiled suggestion that we may have been telling untruths. You are assured that had it been within my gift to answer the phone at the time you rang I would have done so, from wherever in the world and I was always available on WhatsApp to joanne to react immediately, with the exception of my flight times. Joanne is not my cleaner but, manages the property in my seldom absence.
Given that the apartment is extremely well presented, immaculate and well equipped and you enjoyed maximum occupancy at an already discounted price and we took immediate and positive action to rectify relatively minor concerns satisfactorily during your stay, I don’t agree that compensation applicable to this case. I thank you again for your feedback and I assure you that the actions that I have discussed will be taken to reduce the risk of recurrence. I completely disagree with your scoring that the property description is inaccurate in anyway, or that the apartment is anything short of immaculate and I note the absence of any adverse commentary to this regard to substantiate your scoring. Your issues were, immediate access not available as described and heating not on at point of arrival and both were actioned asap to keep matters in context and I will ensure that the log burner is lit for arrival. The heating was boosted asap at the time and you had everything to hand to light the log burner however, with hindsight I can appreciate that it would have been better to ensure that it was lit for you.

"We were gusts at a wedding in the area, this little gem of an apartment was absolutely amazing and very reasonably priced."
It had everything you need, giving us our own comfort without the hassle of a hotel.
Brilliant rooms with loads of space and very clean, the log fire is the best!
Would recommend to anyone rather than a hotel.
