  • "Great place."

Comfy and dog friendly. Decor and upstairs doors could do with update. Possible damp at front room exterior wall that may need addressing? However, warm, ideal location and very well equipped, even if the oven defeated us! Dog bowls, towels and throws were excellent touch. We brought our own as not many places are so well supplied. Looking forward to a return visit. Loved Amble.

Very cosy and tastefully furnished. Close to everything including the sea!we thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s really spacious too and I was pleased to see that it truly resembles the photos rather than involving camera trickery! It’s absolutely lovely and I wouldn’t hesitate to stay again. Particular highlights are the bed and bedding and a lovely deep bath

The standard of the interior was very good, you could tell the owners went the extra mile with the furnishings and ornaments. I did have worries about parking initially (neighbour with over zealous signage) but in the end there were no issues. The location was very handy for local amenities. Amble was a very pleasant surprise for me, I knew little about the town prior to our stay but it turned out to be a great location.

TV aerial needs looking at. All channels breaking up in the evening. Bathroom sink hot tap broken. Years of dust under the settees and kitchen unit as toy cars went under them and came out covered in lots of dust and cobwebs. The back yard hadn’t been swept for months. Plants in pots dead.

We’re very sorry to hear your feedback as the bathroom has just been fully refurbished in May this year. The sofas are moved each week and the floor swept and mopped. The yard is repainted every year and is due again in august. Property Owner

I regularly visit Amble with my wee Border Terrier, Wor Bob, and I have stayed in many holiday Lets. The owner, Steve, was excellent to communicate with and informed me of a couple of very small maintenance issues, which did not affect my stay but I appreciated him mentioning. At the price, Seashell Cottage was excellent value. Its location was perfect for access to the harbour / pier, shops ( a Premier Store is only 100yards away ) Being able to use the back door for easier access was very convenient, especially if you have a dog with you during your stay. The log burner would be wonderful in the severe winter but the central heating system was superb so the log burner was never needed during my stay. The decor was tasteful and all the appliances were flawless. The bath was wonderful with lots of very hot water on demand. The bed was extremely comfortable ( I only used the large bedroom but the twin room looked great ). I never used the cooker, as I ate out all the time but it was extremely clean. The addition of dog bowls and towels were a nice touch. All in all, I would highly recommend Seashell Cottage and would love to return. Thank you Steve.

Some of which were mentioned to us by the owner, kitchen tap dripping constantly. Overall very disappointing. To top it off, the owner contacted us on our journey home, to ask where the plug from the kitchen sink was, implying that we had stolen it. We have stayed in many cottage’s over the years and 99% of them had been of a good standard, on this occasion, we definitely would NOT return.

It's a stone's throw from the harbour and lovely clifftop walks. The house is well equipped and spacious for what (from the outside) seems a small cottage. The lounge and kitchen diner are spacious, as are the 2 bedrooms and the bathroom. There's only a little courtyard out the back but this was a late winter visit for us and we didn't take our dog, so it was fine. We WOULD consider taking the dog here, however, as the walks from the door are very easy. Amble has surprisingly good amenities, including some excellent fish restaurants (try the Fish Shack, right by the sea or its sister restaurant, the Old Boathouse) as well as a range of cafes, shops, etc. We had a fantastic time here and would return in a heartbeat - we wish it was a bit nearer for us!

We stopped of at the mason arms which is dog friendly and even have dog ice cream (which my dogs loved). I didn’t rate the fish and chips from the local chip shop( up from the Chinese on the corner). It is in an excellent position a short walk from the harbour, beach and restaurants and there are many good walks in the local area. The bedrooms and living areas are very comfortable. All was as per the listing except for the back yard. This was very disappointing and not up to Sykes’s usual high standard. It was dirty with mouldy walls and dead plants and an elderly dirty back door mat. I have photographic proof if required. The cottage was reasonably stocked for self-catering except there were only 2 normal size saucepans and only one with a lid. It would have been tricky to cook a meal for 4. I would recommend the cottage but the yard needs work or if not the listing and photos need to reflect its condition.

Thank you for your feedback. The yard has not been able to be decorated this year due to coming out of the pandemic and the property being solidly booked since then. The yard needs three dry, empty days to repaint and so this has simply not been possible due to the volume of bookings. The mat has been replaced. I wouldn't agree there are insufficient pans etc there are more than enough for up to 4 guests. Property Owner

What would be good would be to have a sign in the window to say parking for the property only. Numerous times we couldnt park until we placed a note in the window

The parking may be an issue at times but at the risk of annoying permanent residents, we prefer our guests to have a more respectful and pragmatic approach to parking especially when guests have more than one vehicle. There is always parking just not necessarily on the actual doorstep. The sign is down for that exact reason. Property Owner

The lighting was very poor when we were washing up after dinner we had to open the blind so that the streetlight shone in. Great having a dishwasher, where were the tablets? Washing machine great, we found the clothesline and pegs but there was nowhere to attach it to. The freezer was very badly iced up and the inside top of the door was damaged. The microwave was not secure I would have been very concerned about this if I had had youngsters with me . The mat in the back bedroom slid across the floor to easily Couldn’t use the key to open front door from outside

Thank you for your feedback for Seashell Cottage. The kitchen has energy saving lights bulbs which take 30 seconds to come on fully and are working perfectly. Regarding the dishwasher tablets, the property is self catering and you do have to provide your own. Unfortunately the freezer had been turned off causing this to ice up, the freezer door does have a protective cover and this is not damaged. There is a clothes horse in the kitchen cupboard with the pegs. We have checked the microwave and this is secure on the bench top. Our bedroom mat had a non slip mat underneath it. We have checked the front door locks and can confirm that everything is working perfectly Property Owner

On walking into the twin room a note had been placed in there. It said as we booked as a couple could we not use that bedroom unless absolutely necessary. The assumption was it seems that all couples share not just a bedroom but also a bed. We do not due to medical conditions that each of us have. However to compromise we used the twin room. This led to neither of us sleeping well so we ended up leaving the cottage early to go home. I fully understand about covid restrictions and the need to deep clean and the time this requires. However don't assume couples share sleeping facilities and let them decide which beds they wish to use. After all we pay for the full use of the cottage which includes any bedroom/bedrooms we choose. Had we only needed 1 bedroom then that is all we would have booked and payed for.

Thank you for your feedback, we are sorry if you felt you were or should not use the 2nd bedroom, of course you are free to use the whole property during your stay, it was just a request that if not needed, that you don't use it. Property Owner

We were able to park directly outside the property without parking restrictions or charges. The cottage itself was very spacious for a two bedroom property and had everything we needed for our stay. Decor is lovely and the leather sofas add a nice touch. The king size bed was very comfortable with lovely fresh linen. Ample cupboards and drawer space. There is a wood burner in the lounge but we didn't need to use it as the central heating kept the cottage cosy. The small back yard was okay for sitting outside but could do with a little sprucing up. It's likely that Covid restrictions have kept the owners away from spending time sorting out the back yard. It was private with high walls. A nice sun trap. We have a small dog so appreciated the short walk to the end of the road where we had instant access to the beach and sand dunes. There is a very good childrens play area and adult exercise equipment frames at the end of the road too. Ideal if you have children. Sea Shell Cottage is a ideal place to stay and i highly recommend it if you want a quiet beach holiday. • "What a brilliant cottage!"

Superbly located and had everything we needed. The cottage felt like home from home. If you're an early riser I can recommend a half 5 walk to the beaches, stunning sun rise! Mr Atkinson was helpful and friendly which just made everything really smooth. Thank you!

  • "This cottage has been upgraded so the photos on the website were no longer valid when we booked."

The owner has gone to a huge effort to upgrade the property - it is lovely. It's very tastefully furnished and homey. The sofas and furniture are of exceptionally good quality and the appliances are also top of the range. There's loads of space in the kitchen for cooking and a huge dining table with very comfy chairs. The king sized bed has a very comfortable soft mattress and the two singles are also quite comfortable. The log burning stove works very well and the television is a Smart TV so we were able to log into our Netflicks and Prime accounts. I love the sea and the house is so incredibly close to the harbour area, another small sea front area and a small beach. The East Coastal path is also only yards away from the cottage so you can follow the path to loads of other beaches. The owner was also incredibly welcoming and the instructions on how to use everything in the house were great.

I would strongly recommend staying at Seashell Cottage and with it being dog friendly too was an added bonus. Amble itself is a great place to stay and the perfect location for exploring the local areas such as Alnwick, Craster Alunmouth etc. I will definitely be returning in the future.

  • "Seashell cottage is a lovely, homely, very clean cottage, bigger than the pictures on the website would have you think."

Steve and Debbie have thought of everything, fridge freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, washing line and pegs! Ironing board and iron. Tea towels, fluffy towels in bathroom, a comfy bed (sooo comfortable)! Big flat screen telly, dvds, books and information on area. Parking was right outside the front door and there is a Co op a 2 minute walk round the corner. To walk into town is 5 minutes, all on the flat if hills are a problem. The sea is at the end of the road with great views of coquette island. You can walk along the seafront to the harbour, there are 2 friendly pubs/ restaurants there. The 'pods' on the harbour are not to be missed, selling cheese to handbags and everything in between! There is lots to do in the surrounding area, we walked to Warkworth along the Estuary and had a lovely Sunday lunch in the pub opposite the castle. The town itself has some lovely shops too. We also visited the Hauxley Nature Reserve, just outside Amble, a lovely walk, lots of birds to see and a nice coffee shop when you're all walked out! ☺️ So much to see and do we are already planning our next trip in September. Seashell Cottage is the perfect base for your holiday. One final thing to say is the cottage smells lovely. Sometimes holiday cottages can smell a bit fusty but seashell Cottage smelt fresh. I would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone.

About the location

AMBLE

Warkworth 1 mile; Alnmouth 4 miles.

The bustling little seaport of Amble is situated at the mouth of the River Coquet and is an ideal place for exploring Northumberland. Historically a centre for boatbuilding, Amble offers a marina, a harbour, sandy beaches and coastal walks to the bird sanctuary at Hauxley and country park at Druridge Bay. Large fishing boats moor along the harbour wall and land a variety of fish, prawns, crabs and lobsters. There is a fish centre on the side of the harbour that is now primarily a shell fish hatchery to re-stock levels of lobster and other shell fish, this sells local fish and is open to the public. A mile south of Amble is Coquet Island, an RSPB reserve with a large population of terns, puffins and eider ducks and boat trips around the island can be arranged. The pretty coastal villages of Alnmouth and Craster and numerous superb beaches are only a short drive away, whilst picturesque Warkworth with its castle, charming Alnwick with its castle and award-winning gardens, and the National Trust’s Wallington Hall and Cragside are all within easy reach.
