  • "Really comfortable and well equipped holiday home in a beautiful village set in a beautiful area."

The Wheel Inn is just five minutes walk away and has good meals. Belvoir Castle is a few minute’s drive away. Stamford, Oakham and Peterborough are within an hour. Burghley House is superb, with very good gardens. Lovely villages on the back roads to Rutland.

So glad you enjoyed your stay and please come and see us again. Property Owner

  • "Beautiful cottage in very quiet area."

Cottage had everything we needed. Bed was so comfortable. Diana was very friendly and nice to know she was close by if needed. Several local attractions including Belvoir Castle, Belton House and Woolsthorpe Manor within an easy drive. Cotgrave parking and ride for Nottingham only half hour drive. Would definitely recommend. Couldn't fault it.

So glad you enjoyed your stay. Hope to see you again! Property Owner

Some kind of ceiling on bathroom area would have given more privacy. Location wonderful, enjoyed great walks and visits, breakfast outside on terrace.

  • "I think it could be clear that: the cottage completely lacks privacy (all windows are overlooked) and has two windows that cannot be covered, it is in a pebble car park, from which the tenant is expressly forbidden, but which has the usual slamming and shouting, the best view is a brick walk, the ‘en suite’ has no ceiling and spews its steam and evaporation straight into the bedroom, the welcome pack mentioned in the arrival book did not materialise."

I was quite surprised to find this in a Sykes property.

I am so sorry to hear that your stay did not live up to your expectations, and I am sorry you did not mention these issues to me during our conversations at the time. In terms of your concerns about being overlooked, we note your comments about the two windows either side of the door that cannot be covered, and will investigate putting blinds over these; all of the other rooms have blinds to protect privacy. The surrounding area is pebbled, which I appreciate may be noisy on the odd occasion there is a car in the courtyard, but it does say on the Sykes website that the outside area is pebbled. The pebbled area is the private home parking, and guests can park to unload, but more importantly, it also has an electric gate which automatically locks at night. In terms of the views, I am sorry if you were hoping for country views from the cottage; we are surrounded by glorious countryside and the cottage is as you say, in a flower covered courtyard. The bathroom is equipped by a labelled extractor fan to help with condensation so I am very sorry if this was not pointed out clearly enough to you when you arrived. In terms of the welcome pack, I am sorry if there was confusion on this; when we opened The Old Mower Shed, we did provide a welcome pack, but due to various dietary requirements that we did not know about, we stopped doing this as we were wasting uneaten perishable food. This is no longer advertised on the website and Sykes are aware, so I am sorry if you were given out of date information. We are very fortunate to have had lots of happy guests in The Old Mower Shed, and hugely welcome all feedback to help us improve where it is in our power to do so. I am sorry you did not enjoy your stay with us but hope you were able to enjoy our glorious Leicestershire surroundings. Property Owner

  • "We have never sat on such an uncomfortable sofa."

This sofa should have been thrown away years ago!! We left the cottage one day early because we could not endure another evening on the sofa.Wehave informed the owner of this complaint.

I would like to point out that Alan and and his wife, only told me about the sofa on the day they left. Terry had been living there for 3 months and had never complained about the sofa and had left the morning they arrived. If Alan and and his wife had informed me earlier in their stay about the sofa, I could have had it replaced before they left. It was replaced with a new one the following day, which all occupants who have stayed since say is extremely comfortable. Property Owner

Great location for connecting roads around area and Wolds. Property well equipped and easy to find. I have shared some minor changes, with the owner, that we feel would benefit the property.

  • "We were the first to holiday at the cottage."

The cottage was generally simple to locate. We were greeted by the owners daughter Tish who made us feel welcome. The equipment and facilities offered us what we wanted. The location was ideal for our needs. The cottage's facilities allowed us to have a relaxing stay and recharged our batteries. We met with Diana later in the week and had some pleasant conversations. We exchanged some ideas to enhance the next visitors stay at the well established cottage. We enjoy walks in the countryside exploring and experiencing new scenery and nature. Ideally with a variety of walks in the immediate area with mixed terrain and countryside. We were not disappointed, with some walks starting close by. There are a number of attractive and interesting locations to visit only a short drive from the cottage. The area of Belvoir Castle and its shops are only one.
